      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Beautiful graphics, brilliant gameplay and hours upon hours of fun.

The Tropcio series started in the early 2000s and this game plays great homage to the original and previous players will feel at home in no time. The Game places the player in charge of a small caribbean island in 1950 and you guide your island nation through the cold war and develop it from a handful of farms and shacks to what ever you desire. The game comes with a campaign of 15 missions with specific goals and maps, or you can go to sandbox and play on either the set maps or generate your own island to suit your vision.

The gameplay is very similar to the previous games and will leave experienced players familiar with the huge amount of the game mechanics, but the tutorials give a new entrant to the series a good comprehensive experience and gets them playing in no time. Will an experienced player be dissappointed then? Absolutely not! The graphics on this game make your island paradise (or hell hole if you're that breed of ruler) come to life like never before. The graphics make this a must for any veterens as it brings a whole new level of immersion into an already brilliant game.

The best feature of this game on xbox is that the controls are seemless. Where as many strategy games ported to console struggle to provide adeaqute controls, this time around the developers have made a comfortable and relatively simple set-up to give the player control. That's not to say it's better than or even as good as a mouse, but it's better than any other strategy controls on console.

There are two small criticisms though. Some of the games buildings and structures are out of place on such as island such as the developed road network and tenement that look my eastern bloc than carribean, but such things are purely aesthetic and personal. It's also slightly dissapponting that more hasn't been added on to the original gameplay, but that still wouldn't stop recommending this and rating it 5 stars.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Fun game but not all that challenging

Tropico 3 takes a different angle to the traditional sim city style games. You begin by createing your own personal leader. You can choose to have one of there pre made leaders based upon past historical leaders. Or you could make your own and decided your personal traits and flaws.

The game itself is enjoyable and the different challenges do increase the overall longevity of the game. However the game does begin to feel a little repetative after all your essential doing the same thing,Boosting economy, growing population and if your criminaly inclined funding your retirement by scrapping some profits for your swiss bank account.

The scenery and game setting is well designed but the islands you control do begin to look alot similar after a few solid hours of gaming. The controls are relativly simple once mastered but the camera angles can start to become fustrating.

If your a fan of the previous pc versions go ahead and purchase for everyone else theres better titles around.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Great relaxing construction simulation

        Developer: Haemimont Games
        Publisher: Kalypso Media
        Platform reviewed: XBOX360

        The game.
You gain control of a tropical island and responsable for everything from controling the countries treasury to insuring the people are satisfied.
The game is a mix of sim city and the sims. You have to build the city, control exports and delve into the world of international politics. Do you side with the US or USSR or just focus on your own island. Either way whatever you do has an effect on the outcome of your reign. Become a dictator and focus on miltary control or be at one with the people and attend their every need. It is all entirely up to you.

There are 15 missions to get you started aswell as a number of sandbox maps (free play) and challenges.

Where the sims part comes into play is pretty cool. You get to create your own avatar from scratch. Choosing his body, clothes, hair style and even his characteristics such as making him an alcholic or a military man.

        My Opinion
I picked up this game just a few days ago, but been meaning to get it since i played the demo.
My first impressions where "finally a sim city for the xbox360" and enjoyed the in depth tutorial. But then i tried to go it alone in a sandbox game and found out how tough this game can really be.
I do advise playing at least the first mission and possibly the second first.

As i finally got into my stride i started to really enjoy what i was playing. I managed to build a succesful island and added an eliment of tourism. The smile that came to my face when i built my first airport basically summed up my enjoyment at playing Tropico 3.

The soundtrack is pretty good aswell and based on the latin genre, but from what i can tell is limited.
As for the controls, yes they are very confusing at first, but im getting used to it and they really are not as bad as some people make out.

If you liked the old simcity games and love the sims then this is the game for you.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Add a hint of Sim City, a dash of the Sims and a large dollop of Fidel Castro and you get Tropico 3

Tropico 3 is the first version of the series to make its way from the PC to the Xbox 360. As in previous versions you are in charge of a tropical Island with the choice of being a Dictator or a more democratic leader. Chances are whichever you choose someone will complain.

Tropico 3 is a city building game with a twist, it's the political angle that drives the game on and the decisions you make not only affect you but the lives of your fellow Tropicans.

The games features plenty of missions with varying objectives, most with the goal of filling the Islands bank account ( and your secret Swiss account ). These missions start off at a gentle pace with an in-depth tutorial explaining how to move around the Island and what button does what and when, this tutorial is voiced by your second in command and this fella is seriously helpful and well acted so that's a bonus.

Once your comfy with getting from A to B you can then jump straight into the game, the learning curve is gentle but can still be unforgiving. A lot of your time early on is spent building affordable accommodation and making sure your islanders have enough food and work before you start on the mission in hand. The missions themselves are not totally different and all involve hitting targets either materially or socially such as exporting x number of bananas or having y number of happy people living there.

Where the game offers its replay value is in its random events. The most unpredictable is the weather and an earthquake or hurricane can undo a lot of your hard work and planning. The other problem waiting to happen are your fellow Tropicans, not all of them are fans of you and a lot have their own agendas, for example there can be a large religious faction with the hump that your handing out free condoms or a military faction that feel you're not paying enough.

If you find yourself bored of racing against time trying to sell cigars you can always move on to the sandbox mode. Here you start by creating your own Dictator by using actual traits of others, so if you fancy a bit of Castro with a hint of Peron you can. These choices are not cosmetic however and due influence how your people see you and also your relationship with the USA or Russia, having gunboats off your coast isn't good for anyone.

Graphically the game is stunning, the island does look like a paradise and the level of detail is superb, slight drawback is that you can spend a lot of time zooming in and out to do certain things like selecting people.
Musically theres a Latin soundtrack which is to be expected really and unlike a lot of music in games it doesn't get annoying. The islanders themselves all have voices to give them a bit of personality.

The game does have one very slight drawback, as this was a PC game ported to the Xbox the controls are a little iffy and would benefit more from mouse control. Although it's still very playable it can get frustrating sometimes when you have to do some finger gymnastics to do something simple like setting all the farmers to the same wage.

To sum up this is a very intelligent game that will offer hours of fun and due to the randomness should offer a good challenge, the slight control pad problems may not be an issue to everyone but it did annoy me a bit.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Simply a stunning game that everyone should try and love

Recently I was on Amazon browzing through their selection of games when I spotted a game called Tropico 3 for the pc and noted it had some excellent reviews so took a look at the game information and thought it sounded like it could be quite interesting and so checked on Game and discovered I could get this for the XBOX 360 so had to pick this gem up.

What the game is about: This game is set back in the 1960's and sees you take over an island and develop this to become a huge success. Sounds like Sim City in essance but this game sees you as one of the many famous dictators and you are developing the island of Tropico to be one of the best in the Caribbean through deciding on where your investment needs to be placed whether it be in housing, industry, farming, tourism, fishing, etc.
The development of your island though is not as simple as just developing buildings but more so the fact you need to develop relations with different groups of people on your island and the USSR and USA to ensure that you are able to keep power. This involves diplomacy, government decisions on tax, pollution, reading schemes and more to help to pacify your people to ensure they don't overthrow your government or the US/USSR come to free your people.

This game is simply an excellent game in both design, development and delivery with excellent graphics, sound effects, game depth and most important of all for the consoles is that the control system works brilliantly.
The game is both fun, challenging and above all addictive and will keep you entertained for hours, with me having been playing the game loads and still learning as I go with things like the ability to buy in specialists for certain jobs, political alliances and more taking time to get used to but no matter what you simply keep going back in order to try to overcome this and win over your people and make a success of your island.

          Positives:

          - Excellent gameplay and control system
          - Brilliant graphics and sound
          - Great depth of game
          - Longevity
          - Re-playability
          - Amazing presentation

          Negatives:

          - None

This is a game I can't recommend highly enough and really think is worth a try for all but you do need patience as you will need to try a fair few times before lasting.
