Flatout Ultimate Carnage is a beautiful arcade style racing game that is is full of... well carnage.
There are two campaign modes in Flatout, the first is a racing mode where your ultimate aim is to win all gold cups. There are three classes of car you can buy; derby, race, street. Derby cars are generally tough old bangers, race which off high performance but lacking strength and finally street which are extremely fast cars. with each car you buy you can upgrade all aspects of the car, strength, speed and handling.
The second mode is called carnage mode and consists of 4 destict game styles:
Carnage races are races where you also earn bonus points during the race by smashing your oppenents to pieces.
Beat the bomb, This mode you drive around a course and try to get a far as possible before the bomb blows and destroys your car. Distance equals points in this mode.
Stunts a mode in which you perofm stunts with the driver of the car by launching him into the air at the right angle, you have slight control over the driver while flying through the air like a rag doll. Some of the stunts i car remember off the top of my head are gih jump, darts, ski jump and bowling.
Demolition Death matches Gain points by destroying as many as the enemies cars as possible, to help you with this there are a few power-ups that are scattered across the derny ring.
Driving in the game is wonderful, flying along dirt tracks, or streets smashing into obsticals that could uncover a short cut, but will definitly give you some nos to use at your will. there are literally thousands of different things to smash into tires, fences, green houses, glass pannels most of the things you see on a track can be smashed at your will.
The graphics are really a show of what the 360 is capable of, there stunning, you can even be blinded by the sun, mud or water.
Party mode is the multiplayer mode where you take it in turns to complete stunts (the same as in carnage mode), the person with the highest score is the winner, you can choose to do one stunt or several.
The best thing about this game is that i got it for seven poinds prewowned in game, its wonderfully cheap and very underated as a game, a must buy for anyone that is a fan of the burnout series
There is any number of racing games out there from the serious ones such as Gran Turismo to the outrageous such as Burnout. This game whilst being similar to Burnout establishes itself as a different game.
The gameplay in this game is fast but its not as fast as the later Burnout games, the cars also handle a lot more realistically. I find this game to be a breath of fresh air as it really challenges you at some points. The races take place in suburbs, cities, deserts, farmland and forests and there is a maximum of 12 cars per race. This is one of the challenging things about this game, if you get left behind its really hard to get back to a good position. There is a grand prix mode, there are demolition derbies and time trials, there are mini games and there is also up to 8 player simultaneous online play.
There are 3 sets of cars, derby which is cheap and nasty, race, these are more expensive but look a lot nicer and are good all rounders and finally street cars which are the most expensive but look the best and are the fastest but aren't the most versatile racers.
I think this is a brilliant racing game, there is so much to do and it is challenging its not a case of just holding down the acceleration button. Worth getting if you want something not serious but also more realistic than Burnout.
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage has been around for a while (2007). However, it still offers upto date gameplay and many unique game options to keep you very busy indeed!
The single player career mode (Flatout Mode) offers the chance to race against 12 competitors in 4 different divisions in a number of different locations (built up cities, off-roading, disused airstrip etc). By earning points you are able to buy and upgrade your vehicles....ranging from an old banger, to a sleek sports car and the good old school bus!!
The Carnage Mode is a series of smaller rounds and targets to achieve. For example, "carnage races" where you get more points for smashing up the racing environment, "beat the bomb" where you have to race through many checkpoints as you can before the bomb you are carrying blows up! There are also destruction derbys with many different arenas to compete in.
One of my favorite options on the game is the party mode. If there are a few of you this can be great fun. You can compete in upto 12 events/stunts where the object of the game is the catapult a test dummy from your vehicle to achieve your goal. ie- In the football challenge you have to drive to the release area and throw your dummy into a goal. In the curling challenge you release your dummy and they become stones that score your curling points. Other challenges include high jump, baseball, basketball, bowling, darts and many more. All with the same principle but each event calls for a different strategy. My friends and I have spent many many hours competing against each other, it has made for some very fun times and is VERY addictive!!!
You can play the game online with up to 12 of your friends and can play any of the stunts or set up race tournaments and destruction derbys.
In conclusion, this may have been a game that i didnt purchase. However, after playing it at a friends house i considered it as a must have. The 1 player game is challenging but will keep you hooked! And with the excellent multi-player options this game will keep you occupied for a very very long time. This game has brought me many happy hours and im sure it will you too!!
