I have BT internet since I have had internet in my home, i first had a voyager 506 modem BT basic broadband, then upgraded to the home hub 1.0 and now own this hub, the previous hub was a nightmare, it would constantly disconnect from the internet and not work for days on end, so i was skeptical about choosing another hub. BT have outdone themselves with this product, its very reliable
I have had no problems since I had it installed ( few months ago) and the internet is working fast daily.
I had a BT engineer come out and hook it up he did it within an hour then I had to wait for my line to be registered and in total i was up and running within 24 hours, i am currently using the BT infinity package and BT even removed the installation fee as i was a loyal customer!
Great service, great product, does exactly what it needs to and never fails me!
When I move house, I decided to move broadband providers too. I did a lot of research before coming back to BT. I'd had some bad experiences with BT in the past and was a little aprehensive about signing up with them again. But because we live in the country, we do not have that much choice, and most broadband providers only provide either a very low download limit or very expensive broadband, BT was really the best.
I get unlimited downloads, unlimited phone calls and line rental and broadband for £40 a month. If you live in their high speed ares, you can get a much cheaper package. But they do not provide these in our area.
Mostly we run around 5-6MBPS. However, there has been long periods of time where for no apparent reason we were running at less than 56kbps. The speed can be unreliable around high peak times, so even watching a video on iplayer can be difficult and it can get very frustrating.
The hub is black, sleek and curved. It comes with it's very own hub phone so you have a separate phone line and it doesn't look bad at all.
Overall I have had fairy consistent connection with my hub. But for several months we suffered speeds so slow, that the speed tester would run at all. Eventually they send us out a new hub, but this didn't change anything. Then after speaking to them several hundreds times BT finally did "something" their end and we ran just fine. I don't know what they did, but it fixed it.
I have been fairly happy with my hub, when it works the speeds are excellent. And the hub is actually quite nice to look at rather than usual boring looking modem. And although we have had our problems they have now been fixed and we've been with BT and the new hub for almost 2 years.
If you want a speedy modem for all the family then this may be the one for you, especially if you live in the "right" area and can get a cheap deal.
I recently moved house and after a couple of months, decided that I needed to set up broadband at home.
I scoured the internet for a good deal and eventually went for this offering from BT, partly because broadband was free for the first 3 months.
To start with everything was brilliant.. reception, internet speed, and I also treated myself to Xbox Live to use along with the hub.
Everything was working well until a few weeks ago where I have had a lot of problems.
Whenever I go online on Xbox now, the games lag all the time, and quite often my broadband light on the Hub flashes orange (all 3 lights on the hub should be a steady blue colour).
I have called BT on a couple of occasions but they can't seem to work out where the problem is, could be a number of things, I live in a rural town, and if you do too I suggest you think twice before going ahead with this package.
For all I know it could be poor service in my area but I looked it up and it is normall between very good and excellent, so I am confused as to why it runs so slow.
Also online websites such as youtube and the like seem to take ages to view.
Well in simple terms the BT Homehub is a device which is designed to perform up to its standards and meet the requirements for its user.
There seems to be a lot of comments regarding the actual look and design of the Modem/Router however in many households this is one thing which isn't always on display so in my opinion the physical look of such device has no comparison to the importance of how it works...
We have had BT internet for around a Year and a half now at home and from arrival of the BT homehub in the post we haven't had a single problem.
The installation was easy and straightforward and even though I do know a fair amount with regards to computing and networking the process couldn't have been simpler and could be performed easily by someone who has never even pressed a power button on a computer!!
It was literally a case of taking the hub from the packaging, connecting the phone line (ADSL) wire between the hub and the phone socket and then attaching the power lead to the mains supply!! All of which took no more than 3minutes to complete.
Once the hub was switched on it took a minute or two to start-up fully, however the inidicators located on the front on the unit allowed me to know what the router was doing as it was connecting to the internet and then starting up the wireless signal the lights changed colour which was easy enough to monitor.
Once I had connected to the wireless network the router had displayed a configuration wizard which again only took a couple of minutes and was completed easily via my laptop.
After 10mins of unpacking, installation and configuration my new broadband connection was working without problem through wireless and ethernet connections.
I have never had to remove or reset the home hub in the duration that we have had the connection from BT, my internet is always on and only once in 18 months have we experienced any form of downtime which was caused by BT itself rather than the hub, the connection was lost for around an hour and returned back to normal after the fault had been resolved.
Again as previously mentioned the most important aspect of a device like this is that it performs well without issue's. We have always received a good connection speed of around 8/9mbps downstream and 0.5-0.8 mbps upstream. I don't know whether this is affected by the homehub in anyway however with a combination of a good speed and a reliable device to deliver the service you can't really go wrong!
I do think the Hub looks quite attractive it has a black sleek design and sits in a plastic cradle upright, there are 4 ethernet ports on the back which allows easy connectivity to multiple devices.
We simply connect our main desktop PC via eithernet cable and run a further extension for XBOX live or PS3 however generally use the wireless function for our connectivity.
There is hardly any noticeable difference between the speed passed through the ethernet port in comparison to over wireless.
Would recommend the BT Homehub and BT internet services.
On initial receipt of the parcel I was very pleased with this product, even though for the less able person getting into the packaging would seem like a challenge in itself.
The hub itself looks the part but since having it we have had several problems, the unit itself had to be constantly put onto factory reset because it kept losing its wireless signal, broadband speed seems slow on the wireless side but excellent speeds on the LAN port connections.
The hub phone I have found problematic since the second month of using it, it drops out frequently, the origional handset had no display visable, and the second handset does not work as a broadband phone and after several phone calls to bt we are still no further on.
The main advantage with this hub is that it also has a USB port on the rear that we have managed to get the codes to to connect the printer up so that it runs as a network printer for all computers. so all in all if you want a hub that may have a few downfalls but works most of the time this could be for you
I owned a BT Home Hub 2.0 for around a year before deciding that I needed to move away from the expense of BT's services and seek alternative broadband. Part of the reason I did initially take out a BT contract with the home hub was I had heard nothing but positive delights about how well performing this device was. I had seen the TV adverts and read up on the reviews and everything, bar the price, seemed good.
The first thing that hit me when I took this out of the box was how cool and sleek the whole thing looks. If you want a router/hub that doesn't look out of place in a living room then this is surely it. Its solid, made from tough durable plastics and the blue lights with black effect looks very nifty. There are five blue lights down the right hand side of the interface which display what is connected (and the light goes a dreaded orange if there is a problem). Indeed the whole black design fits perfectly in with my current set up, and most peoples set ups to put it that way. The lights are very bright though which I found, being placed under my TV on the stand was very off putting.
It was all very easy and simple to set up, no messing around just merely plugged in, a few clicks and away we go! Even for a novice the image based prompts and simple instructions and coloured ports will make sure you have your broadband ready to go in minutes.
The router took no time to settle and gave me fast reliable broadband straight away. Obviously you need a good line to be able to do this too but the router plays a key part. I left the BT Home Hub switched on 24/7, whereas I don't with my new Sky router, and in the first 6 months I never had any issues at all. I had to reset it maybe twice in that period which is very very good for routers these days. My Sky one and the netgear model I use at work need reset all the time but with this BT device, despite the use of 4-5 hours per day its performance was great!
With my laptop it connected every time first time and as I said in the first six months only two needs to reset. Connection stayed lively and reliable with a good stream of speed. One of the best things I found was that moving around caused no issues. I live in a small flat so the signal was just as powerful away 1m away on the couch as it was 25m away in the bedroom. Reliable and fast and its something to do with the way it emits the signal as seen in the tv adverts but I don't know the technical explanation.
Often I was running three-four devise off this at a time and it still gave out great reliable and strong feeds with good speeds and connections. The connectivity with the PS3 has been fantastic, same for the Xbox 360 and often I would have one of these connected, plus my laptop, plus a phone and my girlfriend would be online on her DS and the router stood tall.
No problems at all in the six months and this has easily been one of the most, no wait, easily the most reliable and functional router I have ever used and it was a damn shame I had to get rid it of it because of the price of the broadband but never mind!
Recommended if you don't mind the broadband prices!

I have had BT broadband (along with the phone and TV) for around 18 months now. When I first unpacked the BT 2.0 Home Hub I remember being quite impressed and thinking that it looked like a work of art compared to the boring little rectangular box I had previously with Sky.
The Home Hub is jet black and very glossy, it is quite an unusual shape compared to most and although I now keep it in a closed cabinet (I hate clutter!), it is a router that I wouldn't mind being on display as it doesn't look particularly ugly, as most other routers tend to!
The home hub has five lights down the right hand side of the box with the following text underneath each light: Power, Broadband, Wireless, Phone, Upgrading. I think that they are pretty self-explanatory! The lights are blue and are set inside the box, shining through the plastic casing when lit, this adds to the sleek look and gives it a minimalist appearance. There are three buttons down the side of the box that are used when setting, and resetting, the hub: Wireless Association, Find handset, and Reset.
Setting the home hub up is a simple process. I have found that BT tend to give simple, yet informative manuals with both pictures and text. They also give the option of a helpline, and a help page on their website (although you would be unable to access this if you were having trouble setting up your hub!).
I am in no way technologically minded, but I found setting up the hub and my internet connection relatively easy and did not need the additional help that was offered.
Once set up, the front lights illuminate one by one, bar the 'upgrading light' which will only illuminate once in a blue moon! I can't recall ever seeing this light illuminated, however I don't tend to spend a lot of time gazing at my home hub so couldn't say how often the box upgrades.
I find having the wording underneath each light helps me identify the problem if something goes wrong. I remember my last box having lots of lights, but I never knew what each light meant so I never really knew where to start if something went wrong.
I find that the home hub isn't very reliable and I have to reset it at least once a week. I don't know if this is something to do with my connection or my hub (as I said, not very technologically minded!), but I find that my internet suddenly stops working and I have to press the reset button on the hub and wait for it to start up (usually around a minute). Once it has reset itself, I can usually get back online straight away. Other than this, the hub had lasted me well. I've had it 18 months now and it is still going strong.
Overall, I am happy with my home hub - it is easy to set up, simple to use, and looks better than most other hubs.
I have always had a large amount of contempt wound up into me when it comes to all things British Telecom, it has always had a reputation of being of poor quality, poor service and highly priced.
At home, my family use Talk Talk and a NetGear hub which is like a brick and has served us well. In my student accommodation however, being in a house with avidly downloading game freaks we needed fast broadband and the only one that could give us the fastest in our area of 4MB was *frown* BT.
4MB is what they said they would offer, we more or less got 2MB which caused a lot of disputes. Now onto their awful hub.
When setting up their service, they charged us £50 for this piece of junk, it conked out and refused to work after a month and all the little signs along the side turned red. We then waited another 2 weeks and paid another £50 to get sent another one which thankfully had some functionability and on receipt of sending back the old one, we got £50 back. I just saw on here its being sold for £11.98 on amazon. Thats about how much the hub is REALLY worth, perhaps less.
The design of the hub looks pretty cool and modern like it advertises in the adverts with blue lights to indicate what is working within the hub and what it is emitting but I found that every 2 weeks or so, you have to reset the hub for the wireless to function again as the wireless capabilities zero out and everyone is without internet in the house and we are banging furiously on the door of the person that has the hub in their room.
Another thing I hate about it is that it gives to person closest to it fast speeds and gives the rest of people in the house very poor speeds.
In today's age, internet connection and the speed of it is something that can be vitally important to anyone, whether you love to just sit and chill of an evening or if you are using it for work on a regular basis. The internet has made everyones life so much easier, so it can be frustrating when your wireless connection goes down. I used to use Virgin Media, but after numerous issues and spending hours on a call centre line we decided to get the BT homehub (if only because i love My Family and the adverts have Nick in), but on the whole, I have been very happy with the hub experience.
The appearance of the hub is very nice, and will certainly add something to your home or study, or wherever it is placed actually. It is quite sleek and nicely curved, which makes it look nice, and is not too big or unsightly meaning that you can look at it without having to hide it away with all your other computer bits that you do not want people to see!
It is extremely easy to set up. I simply turned the router on and booted up my laptop. I then searched for free wireless networks and my Homehub appeared. It asked me for a password, which was located on the back of the product, and once I had typed it in, i was online within just a few seconds - it really was that easy! I now can travel around and bring my laptop home and it finds the internet automatically, so do not worry about putting the password in every single time and how that would be a pain and inconvenience you, as it is not something that has to occur.
Occasionally it does lose connection, but i think this problem is based with BT and not my product. When this happens it is simply a matter of turning it off and turning it back on, which takes a small while, but fixes most problems.
The contact service has also been a lot easier than with rival companies, in my experience, and as this is something which comes with the router, albeit subconciously, i thought that it was worth mentioning and it is nice to know that if you do have issues that they will not be too hard to fix as you can quite easily get hold of somebody.
The homehub comes with a variety of packages through BT which can include other products which they offer. To check these out i recommend that you go and check their website and find a package which is best for you.
Certainly as good, if not better, than the products offered by rival companies.
The BT Homehub is an essential part of having BT broadband and is included in most broadband packages for free. It comes with the router part shown in the picture and we got a hub phone as well. Initial setup was really easy to do and there was a comprehensive manual. We've had the homehub now for nearly 3 years. In that time the hub phone has broken so many times that I have stopped phoning up for a replacement. I seem to remember my Dad having the same problem with his version 1.0 of the hub phone. So we've had 4 replacements and each one has done the same thing. I just gave up bothering as I figured it was a glitch in the phone that just wasn't being fixed, now we just have a cheap home phone separate from the hub.
The wireless internet that we get in our small 2 bedroom flat is generally ok and we only stick with the hub because of it's unlimited downloads. Also where we live we can't get any of the packages offered with the cable giants as we don't have cables. My main problem with the hub is that for some reason it just decides to reset itself when you're in the middle of doing work, so you have to wait for the internet to reboot itself. Also it seems to really have a slow broadband speed around the busy times of the day, like 6-7pm, which is something BT claims it doesn't do.
Having said that we are still able to run a PS3 from the network and to watch films that are streamed direct from LoveFilm and I can usually watch any of the on demand services on the P.C. outside of the busy times without any problem.
All in all I would say that although the version 2.0 hub leaves a lot to be desired for at least BT have decent enough customer service that they do sort any problems out for you relatively quickly. I have spent several hours over the last 3 years on the phone to BT and had lots of help from them and I generally find their techinical advisors knowledgable and patient.
The BT home Hub is vital for having wireless internet with BT. You can either buy it separately or have it included in your BT broadband package. This router has served me poorly since i have had it. The wireless signal from this router is strong enough to be picked up in all areas of my house, and the signal strength is more or less constant. I have also noticed that my neighbors BT internet also gets picked up on my laptop so for those who live in larger house's then you will still have little problem with this product. The design of the Hub is relatively stylish, and it doesn't look to out of place in your house.
However, pn the front of the hub are a series of lights, which indicate the status of your connection etc. A major problem with the hub is that sometimes these lights go out for reasons that i cant understand, meaning the internet is down. These periods don't last too long, but can be highly annoying and are frequent. Usually they can be resolved by turning the hub on and off, but sometimes they last longer. The speed of the internet also seem's to be slow, especially when streaming video.
One positive is that it is very easy to setup, but for me the negatives outweigh the positives and this product should be avoided.
A year or so ago we swapped our broadband for the BT Home hub.. The appearance of the hub overall is quite annoying, its a large curved black box, with flashing lights on the front. It also comes with a small stand. The lights will change colour to let you know when the internet is working and when it is off, and when the wireless is not on anymore. The side of the hub has buttons which are easy to click, one of these is the 'Restart' button. I found myself using the restart button a lot more than I had hoped too. Our internet regularly cut off, and takes approximatly 4-5 minutes to restart completely. This became frequently annoying. Although the speed of the actual wireless was quite good, I found if I was sat in a different room it would sometimes cut out altogether untill I moved back into the room I was previously in. The router is easy to set up and comes with a code for the wireless so not everyone on the street can 'borrow' it. Overall it is not a bad router, but I do not suggest it due to the frequent inactivity.
When I first changed from cables to wireless connections I was extremely excited, I felt as though I was modernising and joining the 'home of the future' generation properly, this began with an extremely basic Belkin wireless port bought for around £30 and of course you get what you pay for, but then I was offered a BT home hub for free, like I had seen on the television and of course I applied straight away, I wish I hadn't...
I received this for free and from my experience i'm surprised they didn't pay me to take it, I lose connection randomly throughout the day and then i'm offline for at least half an hour, no matter how many times I have called BT to come and fix it, it carries on happening, in fact writing this review has reminded me how much I dislike this router and I think i'm gonna go and reconfigure the entire system and replace this home hub with the old Belkin one.
This may sound like a moaning round but that's how frustrated I am, although it isn't entirely bad, it is good looking for a wireless port, that's pretty much the only advantage I can think of, this is of course form my personal experience, i'm sure other people have had much better experiences and if anyone could help me to improve my experience, drop a comment.
Like most people i received one of these when i signed up to broadband with BT. It is supposed to be BT's new revolutionary router, but really it is nothing special.
The router was very easy to set up, there are minimal cables to plug in an it comes with a set-up disc which you just plug in and follow the instructions on screen. It is all pretty easy, anyone could do it even with only a basic knowledge of computers. One set up it places a program on your desktop which activates whenever there is a problem with the router. A message pops up on screen, you follow the instructions and it usually sorts out the problem within a few minutes without any issues.
The router looks quite nice as well. It sits by my computer and looks very stylish and sophisticated. The black shiny finish also, always seems to look clean which is a handy advantage. I like how it takes up minimal work surface space because it is thin but tall. The connection speed is pretty good too!
However, there are two huge problems that i have with this router which really ruin the product. Firstly, the thing takes ages to load up. I am talking a good 5mins no joke, which is really annoying when you want to look at something on the internet quickly. Secondly, the range on this router is appauling. It does not even reach my living room! I have a fairly big 5 bed house but it only reaches about half of it!
When I moved into my current flat, it already had internet set up in it so I already had a BT connection. The router is quite nice, not too unsightly I just keep mine in the corner of the room on the floor and it flashes away. I have always been with Virgin Media up until now for internet so was just hoping it was as reliable a service. The router is quite big and I know they have recently brought out the new Home Hub 3 but I am so used to this one that I won't be upgrading to that.
The 2.0 Home Hub is a curved rectangle shape and has a small stand that it balances on. It is all in black and has the small BT logo in the top left hand corner. To the right of it are the lights that let you know the signal is working as they all appear in blue but if it disconnects they flash an orange colour. On the reverse of the Hub are the stickers and ports for plugging your ethernet cable into. It is all very easy to use and being wireless you just need your laptop to pick up the signal. It is an alright size and atleast it is all compact in the one model as with Virgin I had 2 routers to connect.
HOME HUB 2.0
Now, to connect my laptop was very easy to do, I just looked for the nearest wireless connection and you just need to find your Home Hub as they will all be named with a certain number. Once I found my connection I just needed to turn my router round and it has a key on the back which is what will activate the connection, pretty much like a password. As soon as I typed that in, it was connected in seconds and my internet was ready to use. I always find no matter where I am in the house that as soon as my laptop goes on that the internet is instantly connected so that is one thing I like.
However, not all things are good with this router, I am lucky that I have never been without internet for more than a day but it does tend to go off quite a lot which is really annoying. The speed is good but not the fastest so if you watch videos or play music or even at a certain time of night the internet symbol on my computer shows a cross which means it has been disconnected. Sometimes in the space of 30 minutes I have had to turn the router off and back on up to 5 times which is not a reliable connection at all.
The router when switched off does take a couple of minutes to go back on as it has a certain routine and as I watch the lights all slowly turn blue it's a relief to be connected again. I do think being wireless I have an alright service but I feel my download speeds and everything else were higher with Virgin and it was the same price. I am alright with BT for now as in my area they do offer the best service but I don't think I'd fully recommend them in terms of connection reliability.
In all honesty the good thing with this is that it comes with easy to install software, cables and everything you need which does help a lot. The connection is 8 times out of 10 steady in a day and it is an alright looking router and not too bright or ugly in your room. I know though anyone who opts for BT now will no longer get this 2.0 router but if you do then it is an alright router to keep your internet going with ease.
The router comes free with an internet sign up which is on a 12 month minimum contract and it is £13 a month for the connection and £13 for the line rental that I pay which is about standard these days as I have to buy the line rental from them but I still don't think it's that bad a rate in all honesty.
