      wine from New Zealand

I am no wine connoisseur but I know what I like! When I first tasted Zephyr sauvignon Blanc I knew I had found my al time favourite wine!

Zephyr sauvignon Blanc is a relatively new wine and comes from the vineyard of Owen and Wendy Glover situated in the Marlbourgh region of New Zealand. Although the Glovers have owned the vineyard since the mid 1980's, it is only since 2007 that the Zephyr brand was created.

The cellar notes for this wine state that this is an intensely aromatic wine with amazing aromas of guava, mango, passionfriut, asparagus and grass! I can't say I can taste the individual flavours quoted but I can say that this wine has a wonderfully fruity aroma. It tastes smooth with a slight hint of fruity sweetness. If I didn't know better I would say the sweet taste is a bit like pineapple. There is no sharp after taste as with some white wines. The wine is very easy to drink and totally delicious! However at 14% alcohol it should be treated with respect as I have discovered to my cost the next day!

This is a medium dry wine and will go well with fish or white meat. However I just love to have a glass or three before a meal at weekends! It would seem I am not the only person to rate this wine highly. In 2007 it won a silver medal from Air New Zealand and has since been recommended by other wine tasters.

I bought a case of this wine a few weeks ago when Marks and Spencer had 20% all their wines. Unfortunately it no longer appears on their web site and is not available in store either. I think I paid around £5 a bottle, which was an absolute bargain! Having done a bit of research I can see that this wine has limited availability and costs around £10 a bottle. I just wish I had ordered a lot more! Highly recommended .
