“ Brand: Gul / Type: Kids Watch / Display type: Analogue „
If you are looking for a watch for a girl of school age this one might just fit the bill. As you can see from the picture it's symphony of pink, it has a strong metal case, a velcro strap and a glass face. It's robust and for a watch that I paid just under ten pounds for (price fluctuates, it's currently £10.46 on amazon and up to £49.99 elsewhere), it's amazing quality and has features I wouldn't expect for this price, it's water resistant and has a date display. I bought this watch for my seven year old daughter a couple of months ago. She is able to tell the time so was ready to move on from a time teacher watch to something more grown up. The display on this watch is nice and clear even though the numbers are silver - it's good that they are not Roman numbers like my own watch, though it could be a bit confusing for a smaller child that there is no number 3 due to the date counter being in its place. My daughter doesn't seem to have found this a problem and is easily able to read the time from the display which has a second hand as well as pointers for minutes and hours as you would expect. The movement is fairly jerky when the second hand goes round but it seems to keep good time and it's easy to set the date and time via decorative winder - this is a battery operated watch. It doesn't have a particularly loud tick either. Whether you like the pink face with its flower design (which is echoed on the part of the strap you can't see on the photo above) is down to personal taste. The branding for the watch, which is Gul, a brand mainly aimed at surfers apparently is not too prominent in my opinion - the badge you can see on the bottom part of the strap is actually a lot lower down in real life - and overall the watch looks good. The face is quite chunky - the diameter is 3cm and it's quite thick so this watch won't suit a younger child in my opinion. There is a bezel which rotates on the watch - not a feature we would use, but as the watch is quite thick it is all quite heavey. For my 7 year old's wrist it is perfect however, the velcro strap means that she can adjust it so it is exactly the right size, and I am sure it would be fine for an older child too - it even fits me. My child doesn't find it easy to put on and take off but it is secure once on place and the whole thing is well made and looks much more expensive than it actually is in my opinion. Certainly over the time she has had it we've found it has worn well, there's no scratches on the face at all despite the fact that, like the average 7 year old, she has worn it when playing in the garden, park and at school play time. I think the bezel protects the front of the wash slightly. We've had no problems with this watch bar the fact that the strap has become a bit grubby over time. In all honesty it's hard to see why they have made a fabric strap for a water resistant watch, with lots of white on it as well as pink, but at least if needs be the strap can be easily removed completely and washed. Overall for the price we paid and for the fact that this is a good looking, practical watch that would make a lovely gift - it came in a very attractive presentation case and has a year guarantee. Highly recommended.
