This watch was gifted to me in 2005 by my ex who was relatively good at picking out jewellery. I have previously owned a stunning DKNY watch but it was looking a bit tired, and this Essential Series watch was an excellent replacement and purchased from Beaverbrooks.
This specific watch is a ladies version and is made up on a stainless steel bracelet, consisting of 7 links and the main clock face. The watch initially had 8 links on it, but they are removable and so I now have a spare in order to make it fit my wrist. The main link is double the length of the normal links which allows it to host the rectangular glass clock face, which sits on top of a white background. This DKNY watch has four notches for the quarter hours and the words DKNY in silver before the 12 O'clock notch. It has an hour and minute hand.
The clasp meets in the centre of my wrist and looks like the link alongside it. It is a small solid link with a hook feature underneath - not visible from the front. This completely unhooks so the watch can be laid out but on doing up sits firmly on my wrist.
On occasion if caught on something this clasp undoes of its own accord but this is rare and I can honestly say I have never been worried about it falling off. Overall I have found this to be a very sturdy piece.
Apparently this specific model is water resistant up to 30 meters, though I have never submerged it in water, always choosing to remove it for a shower or to do the washing up, just in case.
Also since I got it in 2005 I have yet to change the battery. It is still running strong with no sign it is going to fail on me anytime soon.
Stainless steel can have an effect on the skin which leaves it a greenish black colour. I haven't had this problem with this watch, unless there is dirt between the links. This usually only happens on the clasp link and a small cotton bud dampened and wiped over the offending areas often resolves it easily enough.
Each DKNY product comes in its own box and the box is no ordinary box. This watch came in a white plastic cube box with a hinge to the back of it which makes it easy to open and close. The interior is a black suede material and it looks very classy. The centre piece which on purchase the watch was wrapped around can be lifted out leaving space underneath. This is where I keep my spare link. There is no chance of this accidently opening or of losing the contents.
If you decide never to use the box again for your watch, you could easily dispose of the oval centre piece and use if for storage of other jewellery items. The box itself is quite heavy and definitely feels very sturdy to hold.
Overall I love this watch, it is elegant and simple. It doesn't scream look at me but definitely has an understated class about it. Most DKNY watches of this type retail between £120 and £200, however I can only find this one retailing at USA prices of $239.99.
Finally it comes with a small square instruction manual which I have to say is very detailed for a watch manual and not something I have taken the time to read.
