Hotpoint is a brand everyone knows, and most love.
With such great features as anti-stain wash, cleaning action, anti-allergy rinse, bed and bath wash 24 hr delay as well as the super silent engine, it is everyone you would want in a washing machine. The LCD window is a nice touch, letting you know exactly when your wash is going to end, and adjusting the temperature of the water and the spin speed are great for different types of laundry. It has some 16 programs all in one.
So why am I disappointed in it?
When it first arrived, I was on cloud nine. Compared to our previous washing machine, which most likely was assembled when dinosaurs roamed the earth, took 5 spin attempts to somewhat
get rid of a bit of the water and sounded as if an airplane was landing in the kitchen, the Hotpoint was so amazing, that I sat in front of it admiring while it did the first ever load.
Fresh smelling towels, so well spun, they felt almost dry came out of it and I fell in love.
However, on the second attempt to wash a load, I noticed some water slowly trickling down at the bottom of the door. I pushed at the door slightly and a bit more of it came out. It looked like the rubber between the drum and the door wasn't keeping the water away from spilling over. I finished the load and started a new one, and when it did the same thing, I immediately called the customer services.
To say that they were not sympathetic to what I was explaining to them is an understatement. The gentleman from the customer service informed me that my only choice was to sign up for a 2 year breakdown cover, despite the fact that it was a brand new machine and had one year manufacturer's guarantee. When I questioned him about it, he said if the engineer who comes to collect my washing machine decides that I have broken it, I would be charged for the call out, parts and repair. He said the risk to have a call out instead of a breakdown cover was mine, as I probably left a coin in there. Even if that was the case, surely a good washing machine shouldn't break down because of a coin? ( NO, there was no coins). There was a lot of back and forth, and he was so arrogant and non-apologetic, badmouthing the company I had bought it from originally, that I decided I couldn't possibly deal with him and gave up.
Perhaps I should have insisted, but he didn't ask me any questions with regards to the washing machine, when does it happen, how. All he wanted was to get me to sign up for the breakdown cover and hand over my card details.
I have contacted someone else to help me, and when it's time for a new machine, it won't be Hotpoint, I'm afraid.
