Being a working mother I can find it difficult to maintain a healthy diet and I am prone to gorging and crisps and fizzy drinks. I found myself drinking very little water and as a result I was slightly constipated. My sister recommended that I try this fibre supplement to relieve my problems. I got it at a discount as she works in a pharmacy for just 5 euro. I thought this was a bargain for a months supply of fibre especially if it helped my digestive system to run a bit better. Its a fine white powder that looks a bit like flour. You need to add a spoonful three times a day to any drinks your taking. This could be coffee or water, I use it with orange juice at breakfast too. There isnt really any noticeable difference in the taste of the drinks. You must start off with one spoonful and work your way up to three. This way your body will slowly get used to the supplement without causing too many stomach upsets or leaks! I found that this really helped me after two weeks of consumption. I really found my digestive system was working harder than ever and I felt better knowing that I was getting my daily fibre. I admit that I hate eating brown bread so its always been a problem for me not having enough fibre but thankfully this supplement has painlessly brought that to a halt. This can cause a bit of bloating at the start but after a few days this will vanish. I would recommend this to anyone who thinks they need more fibre in their diet or for someone who suffers from regular constipation.
I went to a free health check up a few weeks ago and it was dead interesting, one of the people I had to see was a woman who would look at a list of what I'd eaten and drunk for the past 2 weeks and tell me what changes I could make. Apart from the usual advice of cutting down on sugar, fizzy pop and stuff she also said I could do with eating slightly more fibre. I eat quite a lot of fruit and veg and get my 5 a day in most days so I didn't know how to add MORE, she said to try a fibre supplement and recommended Fibersure because it's one of the easiest to use and most effective after you've used it for a bit. The first shocker was the price, my tub has got up to 34 doses in it and that cost £8.00 in the chemist by me! That's about a months worth so I decided to buy it anyway and if it made me feel better then I'd carry it on but if I couldn't see a difference then I wouldn't bother again for that price. It's a fine white powder that you either add to drinks or baking, you start off taking 1 teaspoon a day and then work up to 3 teaspoons. You should build it up because if you start on 3 teaspoons straight away then you're likely to give yourself the runs and an upset stomach. It says on the tub that Fibersure is tasteless and it is most of the time, I can taste a difference in coffee but if I stir a spoon of it into fruit juice or water than the difference in taste isn't all that noticable. It's one of them things that you get used to quick anyway and once you get into the habit of using it then you won't notice the taste because it's so small. The powder stirs in easy and it doesn't matter if you're using it in a hot or cold drink. Obviously it's loads quicker in a hot drink because the powder starts dissolving as soon as you put it in, but in a cold drink it only takes a few stirs for the powder to mix in so you're definately not going to be standing there stirring for half an hour before your drink is ready! I noticed for the first few days after I started taking Fibersure that I had some stomach aches, nothing major just a few cramps that was like mild period pains. I got a bit bloated as well but that died off after a couple of days, it didn't take me long to get used to taking it and it didn't have me rushing to the toilet or anything like that. One benefit is that I know now that I'm having enough fibre and there's no guesswork about it. I've still been eating the same amount of fruit and veg as always but have got into the habit of adding this to a drink in the morning and another one in the afternoon. The main difference is that I'm going to the toilet more regular, I've never had constipation but didn't used to GO (hahaha!) everyday and now I do! Not going into anymore detail than that but at least you can be sure that it works! I haven't tried adding it to baking because it's like genetically modifying the cakes I make and I think it's up to people themselves if they want to have more fibre, not have it litrally shoved down their throats in a home made cake! Recommended...... expensive but worth a try, especially if you think you need more fibre in your diet!!!
Due to my rather erratic and very imbalanced diet I was lacking in fibre and had a few related problems medically a number of months ago and was recommended to try a fibre substitute with this being top of the list. So, aiming to remedy the rather awkward and inconvenient problems I was having that was being blamed on a lack of fibre I bought a bottle of this with high hopes! This is an alleged 100% natural fibre and comes in a 195gb portion which will cost around £6.50. Its basically a thin, textureless white powder with no real smell or taste. It has to be taken gradually, the final steps are three tea spoons per day but it is heavily recommended that you build this up by starting on one portion and gradually increasing that over a week to allow your body the time to get used to the intake. The way to use this is to add it to drinks and food. The huge benefit is that its tasteless and as long as you stir it in properly your cuppa will not taste any different. Ideal! I had fears that the fibre supplement would ruin my morning cuppa but it does not at all. You could slip this into someone's cup and they would not notice its that subtle! After a day or two using this I found I had a slight belly ache about an hour after my morning cuppa. It was quite unpleasant and I stopped taking it for a day and the aches when therefore I assume this product was the cause. I re tried the product and it was fine this time as I built up from half a tea spoon for three days then a full one for three days and so on until I was on three tea spoons. There was no more pains and aches. The medical problem I had due to lack of fibre vanished after about a week and I felt much better about myself. My tiredness had eased and my stomach felt cleaner and more settled for sure. It's a worthwhile product and one bottle will last a number of weeks so you're looking at the £6.50 outlet a month to aid your diet and it will certainly go a long way to making you feel better. Just remember to take it easy or the stomach pains may come!
I bought this Fibersure product as I was fed up with stomach aches due to not having regular bowel movements. I eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and decided that I would try this and see if it would help or if my body just didn't like digesting food! Fibersure is used as a stool softener and is to be used as a way to make bowel movements more regular although it is not to be mistaken for a laxative. It is to be used as a digestion aid for people who struggle to get enough fibre. It comes in a blue bottle and has a pouring spout at the top. It is a soluble fine white powder and can be used as an addition to your usual foods. It says on the bottle that it has no taste but it does have a slight tang to it. I used mine when I was cooking and I couldn't taste anything. I think that is probably the best way to use it although you can use it in tea, yoghurts or other foods. It is easy to mix in and leaves no residue. Fibersure is made from 100% vegetable fibre and is derived from Chicory so is wholly natural. It is sugar free and has no flavourings. The directions are to start with adding 1 tsp each day and slowly increase this to 3 a day. One tsp will give you an extra 5 grams of fibre and only 25 calories. The average RDA for fibre is around 20 grams so this will help to give you a boost! Since using fibersure I have noticed a slight improvement in the regularity of my bowel movements and also my stomach cramps have been less often and less severe. I am only adding 2 tsp a day and always have the option of increasing it if I feel I need to but for the moment I am quite happy with it- it is a great improvement! I would recommend this product if you suffer from bad bowel movements and have tried other options. Ensure you eat enough fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water. If this fails then Fibersure is a good option.
The current trend is to eat a high fibre diet. The recommended dose seems to vary where you look but seems to be about 18-26g which is quite a lot of fibre even with a healthy diet that includes wholewheat options and plenty of fruit and vegetables. So Proctor and Gamble came up with Fibresure. I eat the wholewheat option for most things, fruit, vegetables and salad regularly and drink lots of water but wanted to try this "new-fashioned fibre". Fibresure is apparently 100% natural vegetable fibre, it tells us this on the tub. It's available in 195g tubs and in sticks. The active ingredient is Inulin from Chicory which is a naturally occuring ingredient in some vegetables and basically a group of simple sugars. It is soluble fibre which is the type that helps lower cholesterol and slows digestive transit which is not something I knew before I bought this. The tub is available for £5.99 in some places online but the recommended price is £7.99. The sticks are little packets of powder and retail at £3.49 for 15 or £6.49 for 30. 1 teaspoon of fibresure equals 5g of fibre and has 25 calories and a tiny amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates and sodium. The claim is it doesn't taste or smell of anything and you can mix it into food or warm drinks and get extra fibre in your diet. It sounded like an excellent idea so without any research I purchased some, I found an online chemist selling 3 tubs for the price of 2 and bought 3 tubs for £12. When the product arrived I immediately opened a tub and had a look. It is very fine, white powder. The tub is mostly blue with a silhouette of a person leaping on the front and the top has a pour function and a sprinkle function. I sniffed the powder and found it does indeed have a smell, it's like a faint sweet smell coupled with a slight sour milk smell. It's not very strong so I knew this wouldn't be a problem for me. On the back it tells you to start with 1 teaspoon a day and as your body grows accustomed to this to gradually increase the dose to 3 teaspoons a day. I decided to add a teaspoon to my coffee in the mornings. I could actually taste a difference in my coffee with this in it. It was like someone had added a small amount of powdered milk to my drink but it wasn't unpleasant. A couple of hours later I had a slight cramp in my stomach but nothing else. I continued for a few more days with just 1 teaspoon a day and each day I found the cramping was getting slightly worse and lasting longer. I wasn't unduly worried, I just thought I needed to adjust to the fibresure. I have to say although I had cramping I had no change in digestion, no alterations to transit time. I kept going for 2 weeks with the fibresure but as the time went on I found my stomach was getting more and more uncomfortable. The cramping turned into bloating and constant pain in my stomach but again with no change to transit time etc. After 2 weeks I was so uncomfortable and felt like I swallowed a balloon. When I put on a pair of jeans that are normally loose I could hardly fasten them and when I looked in the mirror my usually flat stomach was so bloated I looked 4 months pregnant and in fact exactly as if I'd swallowed a balloon! I stopped taking it at that point realising I was not getting any benefit from it nor was I getting used to taking it. At this point I decided to do some research. I found online many people got on fine with it and it did what it was supposed to do but many had similar symptoms to me. One woman described the sensation as feeling like she'd had "a helium enema" and that's exactly as I felt! Many others had the bloating and discomfort and no positive effects. It seems if you get the bloating you don't reap the rewards. I should have done research first really, I have low blood sugar so soluble fibre has to be kept to a minimum for me (it lowers blood sugar and therefore is suitable for diabetics who have the opposite problem to me) and I don't really understand how this product is helpful from a fibre standpoint as soluble fibre slows down transit time and I'm sure most people would buy this in the hope it would speed things up. It won't! That's the job of insoluble fibre like bran. If you do think this product is for you it cannot be added to cold drinks or it turns into lots of small white clumps. It must be kept out of the reach of children, stored in a cool dark place with the lid firmly closed and kept away from damp or it will solidify. You can add it to hot drinks or cook and bake with it. Personally I won't be taking this again, I've binned the powder I had left and sold the unopened tubs on ebay. It was a throughly uncomfortable 2 weeks. It took 2 days for my stomach to return to normal size and for the pain to go. On the advert it claims fibresure will "make you smile on the inside". It didn't. Not recommended.
If you are not getting enough fibre in your diet this easy to use supplement will make things easier for you. Just add fibersure to your favourite beverage or baking.
