Although I know that I'm getting all the minerals and nutrients that I need whenever I am juice fasting, the lack of fibre did concern me a little as I am well aware of how important fibre is in a diet. As a result I ended up buying this to mix into my juices. There aren't that many fibre supplements around and I struggled to find a fibre supplement in powder form as most are in capsule and tablet form. I personally prefer my supplements in powder form if possible which is why I chose this one. I bought mine from amazon purely because it was really cheap on there but it's also available from Boots as well as a few websites. I paid £3.39 for mine which is an absolute bargain in my opinion! Amazon say that the retail price is £6.12, but it can be purchased for £5.25 in Boots so this is a really affordable way to get more fibre into your diet. The powder comes in a plastic tub which reminds me a little of the ovaltine packaging weirdly enough! The colour scheme is green and there is lots of information on the tub including what benefits taking the fibre has and there's also a picture of a spoon with the powder on it which I found handy as it shows what the powder looks like. The back of the tub has nutritional information etc and the tub is easy to open as it has a screw top lid. I have the 155 gram tub but it's also available in a slightly larger 245 gram tub. I find the 155 gram tub enough for me as I only take it when I'm juice fasting which is usually 3 days a month so a tub will last me for ages. The powder itself is a very fine powder which dissolves easily. It is completely flavourless, however there's an orange flavoured one available if you'd prefer a little flavour. As I mix mine into my juices though the fact that is flavourless doesn't bother me. It can be mixed into pretty much any drink including milk, water, diluted fruit juice etc and it can even be added to food such as soup, cereal and salads. I personally wouldn't mix mine into my food as I don't think that the powdery texture would feel particularly nice on my tounge and I prefer dissolving it into my juices. The powder is completely scent less as well as flavourless so I really don't notice it at all which is definitely an advantage. I usually have one teaspoon in each juice and I have three juices a day, but six teaspoons can be taken a day if you're over twelve and children who are between six and eleven years old should not exceed three teaspoons a day. It is important not to exceed the stated doses as too much fibre can cause a lot of unpleasant side effects including bloating, diarrhoea and stomach cramps. I take half the maximum dose because I have a healthy diet and I'm not 'stuffed up' or bloated, but for people who aren't eating enough fibre and suffer from bloating etc I'd definitely recommend taking the maximum dose. As for the effectiveness of the fibre it 'keeps things moving' while I'm juice fasting meaning that my digestive system isn't having a total break which I like as I don't like the idea of it shutting down and having a break like it should do when juice fasting. I've never had any nasty side effects from using this and it is quick and easy to take and very cheap as well. Recommended!

      Helps keep your bowels regular

Most people only get two thirds of their recommended daily fibre intake. (18g per day) Fibre is an important part of our diet in order to keep our bowels regular and prevent constipation. It helps maintain a healthy digestion. Each serving of Benefibre in the sachets is 3.5g and the website says that 2 servings should be enough for an adult to reach the daily amount along with their dietary intake. I always seem to have quite sluggish bowels and gave benefiber a try after fibresure (which I was having before) seemed to stop being availble. Benefiber is widely available in chemists and supermarkets and costs The tubs are bright green with a screw cap. They come in a few different sizes, and also individual sachets which are good to try out or take away with you. A bottle of 155g costs £5.64, 245g costs £8.61 from Tesco. Tesco always seem to have a 3 for 2 offer on on them as well which is good as otherwise it can seem quite expensive. The powder is quite fine and a creamy colour. Beware when you pour it out because it can go everywhere. It says that it is taste free, colourless and instantly soluble. However, I do find that you need to give it quite a while to dissolve and even then it leaves the water with a yellow colour and a slightly strange taste. It is not unpleasant but it is noticeable. It doesn't always dissolve completely unless you really stir it well. i thought that the Fibresure that I used to have used to have much less taste and dissolve easily. I would recommend starting off with a spoonful a day and building up as it can give you cramps if you aren't used to a lot of fibre. I normally have a few spoonfuls a day and have found that I am much more regular and my digestion seems better so it is obviously doing the job.

It couldn't be easier to make a healthy difference

Benefiber trial pack of 7 seven sachets is great for two reasons-1. you can try the product and see how you get on with it and 2. it makes taking Benefiber away on holiday very very light and easy- I don't even bother to take the box, I just pack the sachets. Everyone knows that fibre is a very important part of our diet and according to experts on diet analysis, The British Nutrition Foundation, we are not all managing to get enough into our normal diet, in fact most of us get only 12g whereas adults need 18g-24g. The ingredient is wheat dextrin and whilst not being completely gluten free, apparently the gluten content is so low as to not effect many people- obviously if you are gluten intolerant you need to check all you can before sampling. It is also sodium free and sugar free. One serving is 7 calories. You take one sachet twice a day in a drink, hot or cold, or you can add to yoghurt, it is taste free and non-thickening. Your taste buds will be oblivious that you have consumed the Benefiber, but your body will be well aware as by taking two sachets a day you are adding 6g to your daily fibre intake. Fibre is excellent for maintaining digestive health. If you have very low fibre in your diet, suddenly having an extra 6g a day, could be a shock to your system, so if you experience abdominal discomfort at first, cut back to one a day for the first week. Also take it as a sign that you need to review your diet. I first started taking it as it came highly recommended in internet forums on problems relating to digestive food intolerances and IBS. It should not be taken by those who are pregnant, or by children without a Doctor's permission. The sachets are currently on sale in Boots at £2.99, it is one of their lines that is often on 3 for 2. Benefiber recommend that whilst taking their product you follow the expert advice of consuming 8 glasses of water a day. I get most of my fluid from teas or fruit juices, and this has caused me zero problems with Benefiber.
