A bit like having sex, when it comes to using the internet I know that I need adequate protection however the difference betwwen sex and internet protection is that I understand how potection in sex works whereas with internmet protection I'm totally lost. I used to have a number of different providers, one for a firewall, the other for virus protection and a seperate provider for anti spyware however a couple of year ago a trojan virus got through and my whole system had to be wiped and re-loaded and then I decidd to switch to one provider ZoneAlarms. It was easy to download the product from their website and the last two renewals have been hassle free as well, now I have firewall, anti virus and spyware software running all the time, the programme also filters for spam and viruses all incoming e-mails and blocks attempts to access my system. I do find that it runs updates almost everytime my PC is switched on and this does make it run slower and then every so often it scans for spyware and usually cleans out quite a few bits that I pick up while surfing the net. What I do like is that I can set the level of protection that I want on it although to be honest I tend to just follow the manufacturers recommendations however this would be useful to those a bit more technical minded than myself. When any major updates are uploaded it does work slowly for the first few days as it gets used to the way you operate and you do get lots of alerts however these can be switched off easily enough as they are a bit annoying. I have only needed help once and that was when an IE update caused a problem with it and the internet site and helpline solved the problem really quickly and allowed me to get my system bak up and running really quickly. Overall I find is easy to work with for a total ignoranous like myself and from memory it was aout $38 to renew last year but I may be a little out on that price. You can getfree versions of this suite but they are not as effective and do not get the updates.
This is by far the best piece of security software I have used on my computer. Everything you need to protect yourself is available. The package includes a firewall, anti-spyware, anti-virus and privacy features. All of this is easily accessible from the easily navigatable interface. The basic features mentioned above can be used by anyone from beginner to experienced user. There are also advanced functions if you are trying to do something specific involving ports, etc The firewall is esay to use with 3 different levels of security. It also has a learn mode, so when you first install it, it will learn the best setting for you. If someone or something suspicious tries to access your computer it is either blocked automatically or you are asked. The anti-virus and anti-spyware are also easy to use. The spyware scan is usually done in a couple of minutes, but the virus scan can take a few hours. Both the firewall and virus defenitions are regualrly updated to keep your computer as secure as possible. It also doesn't really effect the performance of your computer unlike some other security software I highly recommend this software for protecting your computer. 10/10
If you are very much concerned about your computer being safe from viruses and other related threats then Zone Alarm if definitely a best buy to go for.Zone Alarm is a firewall that stops almost everything that comes in and goes out of your computer. It successfully checks the data being transferred for malicious behavior , attached viruses, probable threats, spy wares etc. Zone Alarm keep up update every minute for whats happening with you network and you computer. Zone Alarm is more known for its firewall support than its anti virus support. Zone Alarm also has a built in Anti Spy ware unit that keeps scanning you system for spy ware. There is a Vector live monitor unit that keeps scanning your system for viruses and probable behavior of viruses. Zone Alarm also takes care of the programs that you are using. It ensures that the programs don't start to get unstable. It continuously monitors the programs for the rights they hold over a file so that the files can be protected from misuse. Well but there is a suggestion : Zone Alarm drags your system a bit slow. This happens because of its live monitoring system that eats CPU. Thought it makes it a bit slow but its worth installing if you have a system which has RAM in excess of what i required as a default for Zone Alarm. I hope this review will help you in choosing this amazing firewall.
Zone alarm firewall is free and I used it for near on two years before breaking the bank for this security suit version (well I say breaking the bank, it was £30). When running the free version I needed to run various spyware removal tools and also AVG virus control but now all those are a thing of the past because Zone alarm security suite has them built in. There is much more to this than there is to the free firewall, the security suite contains a Network and Program Firewall, an Operating System Firewall, an Antivirus, an Anti-Spyware and much, much more. The suite works on an auto learn system that when first installed blocks all programmes and when you try to start something up it asks for permission to let it run, you can choose to opt to always give this programme permission to run then you will never get the message again or you can choose for Zone alarm to ask permission every time. You also get real time security updates so even if your computer is brought down by a brand new virus as long as you have an internet connection it will update itself with the tools needed to deal with the new threat and deal with it without you even knowing what's going on. This can be set up on your computer in no time at all and it runs a constant scan for both spyware and viruses so there is no need to manually check for anything on your pc because as soon as it appears Zone alarm will kick it out. You can choose to be alerted about things found and removed or Zone alarm will deal with it in the background without you knowing. A great investment in my opinion and at only £30 it has got to be worth it to keep your Pc running, I mean we are all spending more and more on our computers but grudge the software to look after them. My PC cost me over £1000 so why skimp on looking after its health?? Works on all operating systems after windows 98, including Vista!!
Have been using this one for quit some time now. I think is one of the best firewall software out there. Even though it's the a lot smaller and faster than its previous versions, it can still be improved on that area. ZoneAlarm has an easy to use interface, which, I believe, is why it is so widely used. It has an immense amount of options and settings to select from which can be adjusted to cover any need. There are settings for online gaming, manual port forwarding for any programs that need it (p2p sharing). A cookies and add blocker, which is very useful these days, with all those annoying tracking cookies and the pop-ups that are out there. There is also an anti-spyware scan that comes with the firewall. ZoneAlarm also monitors your anti-virus to let you know if it's working properly. There is a section, called myVault where you can put all your sensitive information, bank account information etc., and password protect them to make sure that even if someone gains access to your computer your important information will be secure. Now this is what makes it a star. The program control doesn't let anything run without your ok, and for the not-so expert users it also provides a recommended action. Meaning, if ZoneAlarm knows that the program is in no way malicious, it will tell you that you can let it perform the action it wanted. But it still won't make the decision for you. You can of course set parameters for the programs you use often so you don't need to allow them to run every time. These parameters include the different zones they are allowed to access, trusted zone and access zone, their trust level, and also if they are allowed to access the internet and to act as servers. It can manage your networks for you, allowing the ones you want to be enabled and it tells you your ip address and where you received it from. It also comes with e-mail and identity protection.
This is one of the best and most versitile complete solution that is easy to use, and is not resource hungry. To ellaborate: - The package is preffered by my family over macafee and norton offering because the others are resource hungry and their GUI are absolutly 100% rubish compared to the zone labs GUI ( general user interface) It seems they have thought this through and they were actually thinking about customers instead of just making something that just gets the job done (not so well) - There are many useful settings to toggle with like website blockers, content blockers and security filter levels. This is a great set of features because you can really customise it to achieve a computing environment you like. Also when your viewing websites with an innocent mind, this package will block off and stop any annoying side adverts and promotional xxx content, it destroys it all - Finaly would like to add that it provides affective security
Having been a cheapskate and used the free firewall from zone alarm for over a year I decided to go out on a limb and actually pay for something and boy am I glad I did. Before this I was running various spyware and anti-virus, now no need it does it all. For a while I kept my other programmes just to be safe but after scanning with this they never found a thing and are now gone, resigned to history. at £25 I feel I have had a real bargain here before when I had been on line for long periods I found that my spyware tool would pick up sometimes dozens of spyware this doesn't happen with zone alarm as it constantly scans and removes the unwanted as it go`s. having a new and powerful pc I wasn't worried about the constant scanning slowing me down but it actually uses very little cpu power anyway so it will run well even on slower pc`s. Here's what you get fro your money ----------------------------------------------- Network and Program Firewall. this delivers proactive firewall protection with multiple layers of security that stop inbound, outbound, and program attacks while remaining completely invisible to hackers. Operating System Firewall. This added security prevents hard to remove spyware such as root kits and kernel-level threats from getting on to your system and causing sometimes irreversible damage. Antivirus new engine anti-virus delivers the best possible virus protection with enhanced detection and removal capabilities. Hourly signature updates and faster detection to find and remove even the most recent and aggressive viruses. Identity Theft Protection as with the old zone alarm it will continue to protect your identity information on your pc but will also prevent identity theft over the Internet and even in the physical world. Anti-Spyware an even further improved detection and removal function performs deeper scans at every level and purge spyware from your PC. Spy Site blocking this tool simply blocks spyware at its primary source, ie spyware distribution websites. Auto-Learn this was a new tool to me and its new to zone alarm also. It allows hassle-free computer operation from the moment of installation by hiding unnecessary security alerts, thereby drastically reducing interruptions during the first two weeks as the product learns the programs you typically use. Automatically configures security settings, and rates threats according to level of potential damage they represent. Privacy Protection an old favourite this one basically a pop up blocker so you can browse in peace. IM Protection this is perhaps my favourite little tool of all, it protects your instant messages - even those sent between different services - so they can't be monitored. Essential Email Security does exactly what it says on the tin this one checks your email for unwanted add ons. Wireless PC Protection Automatically detects wireless networks and secures your PC from hackers and other Internet threats wherever you're connected - at home or on the road, how cool is that!! Parental Control Prevents children from viewing inappropriate content on Web sites. Smart defence service This clever tool Provides your PC with real-time security updates, improved response to breaking spyware threats, and new attack protection. There is very little work involved in setting this up as most of it is done automatically, but for the more technical who like to tweak things a little there's plenty, plenty options available, for example you can switch the constant scanning off and just scan manually or you can set up which programmes take priority both on and off line. It really is a tool for the new age and my computer has never run so smoothly and had so little spyware under any other programme. If this security suite has failed to impress you then you are beyond impressing I fear! Give this one a try it will NOT let you down!! Thanks for reading. ©2008 lynseyb
