Having wanted a Miele vacuum cleaner for a long time after trying a friend's, I finally got the S5210. In my opinion, Miele produce the best vacuum cleaners on the market. Firstly, it's surprising how the price compares to other brands such as Dyson; £110 I paid for this model. It has a sleek design and a quality build - certainly not flimsy!
These vacuum cleaners have a reputation of lasting a long time which was another reason for my purchase - well it's been two years and the performance is still as good as when I bought it. The main plus point is how strong the suction is. It grabs everything without you having to vacuum over the same area over and over. For this you'd expect a lot of noise, but compared to other cleaners (especially the dreaded Dyson!) the noise level is very good indeed, with more of a whooshing noise than a grating mechanical noise.
You can change the strength of the suction, so to dust more fiddly ornaments, I simply turn the suction right down, place the brush attachment to the hose and voila!
And the tools are kept in one easy to reach compartment in the main body.
The vacuum cleaner itself is lightweight so cleaning the stairs is easier. You can hold the main body in one hand with its nice wide handle, and target the staircase holding the nozzle with your other hand. And if your arm does happen to get tired, the main body is slim enough that you can rest it on a step for a while. The cable is nice and long so I can pretty much clean the whole ground floor from one power point (I don't live in a huge house, just an average terrace, but it's still pretty good).
You can clean different surfaces, switching the brushes on the head for wood or laminate floors. The only thing I don't like is that the brushes don't protrude out far enough so clearing them of fluff is a nightmare.
I also have a high ceiling directly above the staircase, so the telescopic handle makes clearing the cobwebs a doddle.
The bag is easy to change, simply slide out and slide the next one in and close the lid and off you go. Although you have to keep buying new bags that are not so cheap, I find it's a far more hygienic option than a bagless cylinder you have to keep emptying - yuk! And they DO lose suction markedly as they fill up, I don't care what they say on the adverts - The Miele S5210 does not show a marked reduction in suction power until the bag is REALLY full!)
In conclusion, the S5210 is a quality item, with no silly gimmicks. It does what it's meant to - give great cleaning results as quickly and simply as possible. I'd definitely buy again!
I bought the Miele S5210 four years ago now and it is still going strong. The reason why I decided to purchase this item was due to the adaptability to work on hard wooden floors as well as carpets. Plus the brand Miele was very appealing due to its reputation as a reliable quality brand.
From opening up the box and assembling (instructions not needed due to its simplicity) the S5210 is really simple to use. If you do need the instructions then they are very simple to follow. The plug is on a retractable cord which tidily retracts inside the unit with the press of a button. Also within the unit the accessories are housed, along with the standard floor head you get three other accessories (dusting brush with natural bristles, upholstery nozzle and crevice nozzle). All accessories are easy to interchange and use.
The suction power on this is extremely effective, you have the option of 6 different settings to suit the environment. One setting is known as the silence setting, much quieter than all the others but still with great suction.
When navigating around the room the cord radius is around six meters and with the additional suction tube i think it would be close to ten meters. The unit is balanced on three wheels that will follow you in all directions with no issues. Also a great added feature is the bumper band which helps to protect the cleaner and whatever you have knocked it into. The length of the cord is perfect for stairs as i am able to leave the unit at the bottom step and make it to the top with no problems.
Changing the bag is very simple, I know that cleaners with bags are not so popular as they used to be but please do not let this put you off. It is mess free and only takes thirty seconds to change. The unit has a useful warning indicator when the bag is full. I have not noticed any loss in suction as the bag fills up.
I know that this product is slightly more expensive than others on the market, however I believe that it is worth every penny as four years and going strong is a great testament to the cleaner.
I have made recommendations to friends and family who have also bought the same cleaner and they have been fully happy with my recommendation. This is a truly great cleaner.
You may be able to get cheaper vacuum cleaners but this provides excellent value for money for the quality offered. We have had it four years, having had our previous one less than two before it blew up, and never had a problem with it. The suction is excellent, although I find it picks up cat hair better on carpet with the brush down which means using it gives a great workout as it is quite hard to push around! You can always reduce the suction with a handy dial on the top if you find it too hard to move around, or for more delicate jobs, such as upholstery (it even has handy little pictures of what suction level is suitable for what).
It comes with a variety of tools easily accessible via a flip up lid in the top. The bag is easy to change, however bags and filters prove expensive if you use genuine miele ones.
Miele also has an excellent reputation for reliability.
I bought this vacuum cleaner in December 2007 and I am still very pleased with it ten months later. It is compact, light, easy to manoeuvre and has exceptional suction. The tools are stored neatly in its body and the hose is long and height adjustable. The straight part of the hose is telescopic so that it can be tidied away very neatly. It has a long flex enabling me to plug it in centrally and do the whole of the downstairs and the stairs without having to change sockets. It is effective on both carpets and hard floors. Both dust bag and filters are easy to change. The colour is practical as it doesn't show any scuffs or knocks.
I bought this vacuum cleaner based on the reputation of the manufacturer and have not been disappointed with the quality and performance of this product. I would have no hesitation in recommending this vacuum cleaner to my friends.
Outstanding! Best vacuum cleaner I have ever bought in 30 years. Everything is superb : its neat, sturdy design; clever way tools are stored; robust hose and tools. Best of all is the massive suction: first time I switched it on, it sucked up a carpet tile that had been down for 10 years! Ten months on and I think it is still fabulous. With two huge dogs and busy house, it simply eats the dust and dirt. I could not be more pleased. I recommended it to a friend who has fitted carpets through out, and he is just as enthusiastic. A definite buy!
