Living in a house with 3 floors can be a bit of a nightmare. I specifically opted for a 3 storey house when we first decided we wanted to move to a bigger home as I preferred the design. However, one thing I didn't take into consideration was the cleaning side of things which being an OCD cleaner you would have thought it would have been at the top of my priorities!
My good old Dyson is a great vacuum but it is incredibly heavy and lugging it up and down flights of stairs isn't ideal. Therefore, after months of debating should I shouldn't I, I decided to buy a smaller, compact vacuum which would be good on carpet as well as laminate and tiled floors but would also be great for pet hair. There is of course a wide variety on the market but in the end I settled for the Bissell 4757E Cleanview Pet Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner.
== The Vacuum ==
The Bissell 4757E Cleanview Pet Bagless Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner is a small but compact vacuum which is lightweight and bagless. It is classed as a cylinder vacuum and is ideal for those with pets. It comes complete with a 5m power cord and is suitable for both carpet and hard flooring and is only suitable for dry pick up.
To look at it is quite a cute little vacuum (total size: Size H26.9, W34, D24cm), the hose and extension tubes are a dark charcoal/black in colour and the main part is white/purple and features the Bissell logo around the cylinder compartment so you can easily see the dirt/dust etc which has been sucked up whilst vacuuming.
== Packaging ==
Due to the size of this vacuum it doesn't come in an overly large box. The vacuum itself is already put together in terms of the cylinder and dustbox. The only parts you need to attach is the telescopic extension tubes and the 1.5m plastic hose. It does come with a full instruction manual should you require it but I found it pretty self explanatory.
== In Use ==
To use it is pretty basic, you simply pull the cord out (there is a button to press to release the cable as well as automatically pulling it back in) plug the plug in and press the 'on' button which is at the opposite side at the back of the vacuum by the cord button. These buttons are meant to be foot operated which again makes it easy for you especially if you sometimes find it hard to bend down.
I bought this particular vacuum as I wanted something easy to carry and something lightweight and this really has ticked the boxes. Because of it's size it fits easily on the stairs which makes vaccing the stairs an easy job especially as it has side suction making edge to edge cleaning a real doddle. Because it has a hose that stretches easily this also makes cleaning a staircase easy and not a hassle like it has been with a heavy Dyson.
The vacuum is 1500 watts with 220 air watts making it quite a powerful little vacuum and for me it certainly does the job in getting up any pet hair. It has a total capacity of 2 litres which is a slight downside which although I knew it was when I bought it I do find that you do have to empty it out quite regularly especially with the amount of pet hair I pick up as this is what can affect the filter and what ultimately stops the vacuuming from being so powerful.
Bissell advise that it does have an easy and hygienic dustbox emptying together with a 4 stage filtration. To empty the dustbox you simply twist the hose off from the cylinder (it turns and locks clockwise) and then press the button on the handle and out it comes. You then just empty it out as you would normally. For the filter this again locks in place and you twist need to twist it. The filter is also washable and I find that all I need to do is submerge it in a washing up bowl of clean warm water does the trick.
I have had this compact vacuum for several months now and it is used on a near daily basis on carpets, laminate flooring and tiled floors and find that although it does a good job on carpets I do find that unless the filter has been cleaned after every use that although it doesn't struggle with pet hair it doesn't do as good a job as it should. However, on hard flooring it works wonders and the telescopic extension tubes are great for getting into corners of rooms and ceilings making the job of vacuuming and cleaning not so much of a chore.
The one thing I did immediately notice was the noise. Considering it is such a small vacuum it is actually quite noisy which although wasn't a major problem for me but has taken a bit of getting used to! However, despite the noise I do find this quite handy to use and it makes cleaning the stairs a joy rather than a hassle due to it being so lightweight. It does come with a turbo brush as an attachment which is meant to be ideal for upholstery, personally I find that the floorhead does a good enough job.
== Overall ==
I really do quite like this little vacuum despite it's noise it does manage to do what I need it to do. The only downside I find is that for it to be really effective with pet hair is that you need to empty it after every use and ensure the filter is clean. However, it is so easy to empty and to clean it only takes a few minutes.
I am happy with my purchase and although there are no doubt better models on the market for the price I paid I am incredibly pleased with it. Yes, you do have to empty it more frequently but then if you want something bigger then this won't be for you. It is small enough to easily store away and light enough to carry up and down stairs without any issues at all. For me, a definite recommendation. However, due to the small carpet issue (seems to suit hard flooring better) I would give it 4 stars. If you have all carpet then this may not be the best vacuum to buy.
