How Clean is You House? Was originally a Channel 4 programme although it is now show on several Virgin Media and Sky channels, with one channel often showing a full day of it. The programme is presented by Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie, Kim is quite a posh person not your typical cleaner, it always amazes me how she is the one that gets right in there and sniffs absolutely anything, Aggie is their bacteria expert and will take swabs from various places around the house to laboratory analysis.
The programme usually starts with a few clips from around an absolutely filthy house, and when say filthy I mean filthy not just it needs a quick dust and a and tidy. The houses that are visited are covered in literally years and years of dirt, mould and grime. In most cases you cannot see the carpets for rubbish and clothes thrown around the house, the fridges are full of mouldy food, it is like these people do not know how to clean. There is then a short clip of the person who's house is being cleaned wit them giving a poor and pathetic excuse as to why they have never cleaned there house and why it is in such as mess. Some people have genuine reasons such as disabilities whoever to be honest most of them cannot be bothered, the one I am currently watching as I write this said he didn't get round to clean as he spent all his spare times playing online game - pathetic!!!!!
So the next stage of the programme is where Kim and Aggie go to the house and have a look around before the house owner arrives, they go round every room on the house examining everything, I don't know how they can pick up some of the stuff they do and sniff it!!!! The home owner then returns and is usually 'told off' my Kim and Aggie about the state their house is in. Again they give their poor excuses as to why the house is so disgustingly dirty and the reason why they have decided they want to clean things up. I sometimes wonder whether some of these people actually want their homes clean because they make it obvious they are just not interested and would be happy to sit back and let Kim and Aggie do it all, personally I would walk out and leave them to it if they couldn't be bothered to show and interest, but they persist and make the house owner join in with the cleaning whether they like it or not!!!!
Kim and Aggie do not do all they cleaning along they have a team of expert cleaners to help. The first thing they do is clear the entire house out and get rid of all the rubbish that is covering the floors in all the houses they visit. This usually takes them some hours as the rubbish has normally been building up for years!!!!! Once all the clutter has gone its on with the fluffy rubber gloves for Kim and Aggie and the cleaning begins. Although there is a team of professional cleaners there the cameras mainly follow Kim and Aggie around who take it in turns to show the house owner how to clean a particular area, but seriously some of the things they show them are so basic, it is just simply hygiene!!!!! I mean we all know how to clean a work surface when we have been cleaning!!!! Some of the tips they give are really helpful and I have tried a few out myself, they show you different cleaning methods using cheap products and even items that can be found around your home such as lemon juice, white vinegar and washing powders.
There is always a part of the show where Aggie takes swabs from around the house which are analysed in a lab. They usually come back showing that the house is full of bacteria such as e.coli and many more most of which I have never heard of but they can all make you ill. The results also normally show that the house is over run with various types of insects and mice again all of which have the potential to make the people living in the house ill. The idea of this part of the show is to scare the people living in the house to clean it, they always say they will start cleaning but I often wonder whether they will as they usually sit there laughing!!!!!!
Most of the show is them cleaning the house and telling the owner tips to keep it clean in the future. At the end of the show the house owner is then shown around their newly clean home. It makes me laugh at how shocked the owner is and often comments on how they didn't realise their sofa or carpet was that colour!!!!!! Kim and Aggie then make a surprise visit to the house again to see if the house has been kept clean. Often it has but people obviously know by now that they make a surprise visit and will keep it tidy for a few weeks. I personally think they would be better going back a year later as I am sure that most of these people go back to their own ways.
The show usually lasts around 30 minutes, personally I tend to watch this show if it happens to be on at a weekend and it is quite entertaining and often makes me laugh. However at the same time it does annoy me that these people that cannot be bothered to tidy up after themselves get on TV and have it all done for them. I have to clean my house myself aswell has having a full time job and doing a degree in my spare time and it certainly isn't dirty.
Half an hour of entertaining TV, can be quite funny
Some bits are really disgusting and make you feel a bit sick
How clean is your house is a lifestyle programme that was shown on Channel 4 from 2003 to 2009 until it was cancelled. The show sees Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie visit different people's houses each week in a bid to help them sort of the messes that hide behind closed doors. Both Kim and Aggie are expert cleaners so they come prepared with loads of hints and tips on how to keep your house clean but without a serious amount of effort.
The houses that are visited are extremely dirty, hopefully completely beyond any of our houses. Some of them have been that bad that it was impossible to see the floors or there has been months and months worth of rotting food in the fridge etc. The show always starts with a video of a member of the public begging for the pair to help someone they know. I can see why they want some help though because I think I would rather die than let my house get to this state or the house of anyone I know.
When Kim and Aggie arrive, they have a look around the house and see what is wrong, or sometimes to try to find something that is ok! Both Kim and Aggie are completely disgusted (as am I) with the houses they visit and even though they see so many, they don't seem to be able to get used to the mess. Once they know what they are dealing with, some extra help is brought in, ready to try and tackle everything that needs to be removed, which is normally a lot. While going around the house cleaning, the audience are given easy and helpful tips for cleaning different areas. I really like this part of the programme as it shows everyone that cleaning isn't that hard and doesn't always take so much effort.
After the house has been totally cleaned, it is shown to the occupant and we get to see how amazed and happy they are to have their house back. My only problem with this is that the people on this programme are being rewarded for being so utterly lazy and disgusting. They get the help of expert cleaners to sort their lives out just because they let things get too bad. It astounds me how anyone could ever live like this. I do think that if someone lets their house get this bad in the first place, the chances of them doing it again are quite high so I don't think the effort is really worth it. Kim and Aggie do make 'surprise' visit's a couple of weeks after the house has been cleaned just to make sure everything is ok. The house is still normally pretty clean but it makes me wonder if everyone makes an effort for the couple of weeks in-between visits and then do what they like.
Kim and Aggie, especially Kim are not the kind of people that I would imagine to be cleaners. At times they can act like snobs but maybe I would if I visited a place like this. It does seem like most of the actual hard cleaning is done by the team and not Kim and Aggie themselves. As it is only a half an hour show, it is unclear as to how much cleaning is done by the team and how much is done by the presenters. The one presenter that I do like though is Aggie. She takes swabs of different parts of the house to see just how much bacteria there is and what it could be doing to the person who lives there. I think this part of the show really makes the problem hit home when Aggie says what diseases they could get just from living in that house.
Overall, as disgusting as this show is, I can't help but like it. I don't really know what it is that draws me to watch this but I just cant help myself sometimes. If my house was ever this bad though, I certainly wouldn't advertise it on national television.
How clean is your house is a channel 4 programme featuring Kim Woodburn and Aggie McKenzie, expert cleaners with a great deal of knowledge and experience in cleaning. They seem to know everything you could possibly need to know about cleaning and I have managed to pick up a lot of tips and ideas from them.
The show lasts 30 minutes (25 without adverts) and features one home per episode. During the episode Kim and Aggie go into a home and have a look around. These are no normal homes. They are filthy and very untidy. I often find myself cringing as they show you around. Common scenes include piles of dirty washing, thick dust everywhere, mouse droppings, dead flies and floors that you can't even see because they are covered in rubbish.
After the initial showing you around scenes, we are then introduced to the people living in the house and told a bit about them and why the house is so dirty/untidy. Reasons vary a lot and can be anything between depression and illness to those who admit that they just can't be bothered.
We then see Kim and Aggie help them to de-clutter the rooms and show them how to clean various in different ways. Usually Kim shows them how to clean things up and Aggie goes more into the scientific side, taking samples and measuring the quality of the air.
Finally we see the finished home, all clean and tidy. Kim and Aggie sometimes give the contestants a schedule for cleaning or a rota and tell them they will be coming back in 2 weeks. In some of the later episodes they didn't re-visit, but when they did it would be 50/50 if they had kept it tidy or not. Some were really good and kept it lovely, with others, after just 2 weeks, you could see they were no different and that the house would end up the same in no time at all.
During the final series they added a little section where Kim and Aggie would go into local shopping Centres and Towns and offer tips and advice to the public. People could bring an item that needed cleaning and they would show or tell them how to do it. They would also show you how dirt and germs can build up in places like the car and the sofa.
I liked How clean is your house and always thought that Kim was wonderful. She is a very funny lady and always makes me laugh out loud whenever I watch her. I agree with a lot of the things she says to people as well and no matter what you say about her, she is very open and honest about everything. I also like how down to earth she is as well. Aggie was good, but very much in Kim's shadow and doesn't really display much of her personality through the show. She does appear to have a very deep knowledge and understanding of the science behind and cleaning though.
Sometimes this show could be absolutely disgusting, the things you see, I just don't know how anyone could live like that. I actually get annoyed at some of the people on there. They complain that they have had a bad time and so didn't want to do the cleaning. I myself have been through some very bad downs in my life, but it doesn't stop me doing the basic cleaning and it does seem as though they just want an excuse.
The people that really bug me though are the ones who just can't be bothered. They have these great flats and houses and just don't bother at all. Not because they are ill or don't have time, but because they would rather go out and socialise, and some of these people have children! How they get away with it I don't know. I would be scared that social services would want to take my children away if I lived like some of these people.
The people on the show are quite a varied bunch. They have had farmers, disabled people, housewives and mothers and professionals. Some of them do seem genuinely overwhelmed by the mess they have got themselves into, whilst others seem to find it funny, but not for long because Kim always puts them straight.
I like to watch for the cleaning tips and advice and have learnt quite a bit from watching. I always tried to watch it the day before I did the cleaning so that I felt motivated the next day, and it certainly worked, just thinking about those houses makes me work a lot harder. Don't get me wrong, my house is not a palace and if you were to look these is probably dust about, but I just don't know how people eat in a kitchen or wash in a shower that in some cases has not been cleaned in over 10 years!
I used to be a clean freak years ago when I could do a lot more cleaning and loved to watch the shows on televison that involved anything to do with homes, I still do, I take alot of pride in my home and always will.
This programme have 2 women who are expert in their cleaning field for many years, kim Woodburn and Aggie McKenzie visit very dirty and grime filled homes to clean them to a liveable style as when they first go around the home the rooms are absolutely disgustingly dirty. The way some people live in these programmes the duo ladies soon put them in their place, especially Kim, she tends not to hold back telling them, and they both show the occupants of the home little cleaning easy tips on how to cheaply clean and keep your home nice and show them you do not need alot of money to have a spotless home, they like to teach them to declutter, and clean toilets and kitchens as these tend to be the most disgusting.
The people who take part in the programme and is their homes can be anyone from single young people to an old pension aged couple, it can be anyone from any walk of life, all they need to make this show is a dirty home.
The tips are very good I have used these for many years and they work a treat for me, I use these tips along side my normal duties although some of the tips clean well but have no smell and I just love a home to smell fresh and clean because that is important too for me. The tips they show are with cleaning products that we all use or can use to put in or on our food and they use them for cleaning, just amazing what we use on our food, you can use on a glass light shade.
When I moved to where I live now almost 6 years ago, I had to clean it completely and it was not lived in for almost a year so you can imagine the smell for me and it was a little dated but an old lady lived here before me and she had to go into an old peoples home and so the home was empty for awhile, so I just used a few of the tips and it took the most dirtiest marks off the kitchen sink etc and it was fine.
Some of the tips I have learned is to use alot of white vinegar, I use alot of barcarbonate of soda for cleaning now, although I used it alot before these products are very good for removing bad stubborn marks, the vinegar is a must in my home now.
This programme can be viewed on channel BBC1, and they have repeat shows on Freeview 14, Sky 138, although I do think the Freeview channel does tend to vary as my friend has hers on a different channel which is 19 on Freeview and we are viewing at same time, I always still watch the repeat shows.
I am not sure but I think the last series was the very last they would be making as these women presenters wish to no longer make them.
Kim Wood burn was recently in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and she came 2nd and Aggie McKenzie was on the show Dancing On Ice a few years ago and she was voted off quite early in the show but not the very first.
I find alot of comedy in this show, especially with Kim's sense of humour she makes me laugh.
Lots of cleaning tips to help you around the home.
I give this a 5 star rating.
My 100th Review!!!!!
How clean is your house is a shocking insight into how dreadfully unclean and untidy some people can let their house become. I am still amazed every time I watch this programme at the amount of disgusting kitchens, toilets, bathrooms etc that people can have. How on earth can they possibly live like that is beyond me?
The programme is focused on Kim and Aggie (Kim Woodburn - who also did I'm a celebrity get me out of here and Aggie MacKenzie - Celebrity come dine with me) and how they come to these dreadfully unclean people (ermm I mean their unclean house) and work an absolute miracle in getting it back to how it should be, which is clean and hygienic.
So we start the show with them looking a video piece of someone pleading with them to help their friend/family and the ladies deciding they will. They then turn up at the house and we are taken through every disgusting room. The kitchen piled up with grease, filth, dead flies and insects, animal hair all over the place, a black cooker that should be white, pans in the sink from a few months ago no doubt, dirty clothes all over the floor (of which some of the kids route through to find their uniform, shake it off and put it on!) We then see Kim usually scraping something off a side with her bare fingernails and then sniffing it..ewww!
We are then taking to the bedroom where it doesn't look like the bed has been changed or washed for years and years (yes they have to have a smell) and we cannot see the floor yet again with the amount of rubbish and dirty clothes. Sometimes I shake my head in utter disbelief when they even find animal faeces inside. I mean what is wrong with these people!!
So once we have been shown around this disgrace (a dogs kennel would be cleaner) we then see Kim and Aggie and a team of superior cleaners get to work at scrubbing, cleaning and clearing away the clutter. Cleaning carpets and floors that have not seen soap and water for over a decade. On occasions they give us quick but good tips on how to get something clean like net curtains, or worktops or cooker hobs and the person looks on in amazement. (of course noting everything down so they can continue the good work obviously, we have no doubts of that do we?)
Once it is all clean and hygienic again the owner of the house is then brought back in normally with a friend and they are shown the transformation. They look on in astonishment that yes this really is their home and this really is how it should look if you were a normal person and hovered every once in a while and tidied up!
I do get the impression sometimes though they the cleaning team are wasting their time with some of these people as they have no intention of keeping it clean really and possibly in a few years it will gradually get back to how it was. I do wonder how some of the ones that have children can think how it is healthy to have young children living amongst the filth. There was one program where a house was terrible, all except one room which was the teenage girl's room. Her room was kept tidy, and she hoovered it and changed her bed etc. I would be absolutely mortified if that was my family.
Once they have waved away they make a 'surprise' visit about two weeks later to see if the family have kept up the good work. Some have done well and others are on that slippery slope back and you can almost feel the pain from the cleaning pair when they come back to an untidy house once more.
I do wonder why they do it, I mean Kim is quite a posh lady and not really the sort to be getting down and dirty and after her revelation on the jungle programme that she didn't really like Aggie I can't watch this programme the same again. Aggie is the bacteria specialist who takes swabs and comes back and tells the family how badly they could be infected by the germs that are around their home. When she did Come dine with me, she did think that the guests would be going through her home with a fine-tooth comb to check for dust!
Overall I am just amazed that people can live like that. I would be utterly embarrassed if mine ever got into that state and compared to their homes mine looks like a show home. I do love watching this programme purely because I watch in disbelief and also I love the transformation after. I do wish however that I could believe that all their efforts were worth it.
It's a shame that no more series will be made but I hope they make something similar even if it is with new people, I do like seeing the cleaning tips.
I find this programme is one of the most shocking shows on tv. Kim woodburn and Aggie mackenzie are the shows presenters. They both have previously worked within the cleaning industry and and therefore have a genuine passion for cleaning and hygiene.
The basis of the show is that they arrive at a persons house via their little red van. When they are invited in with cameras in tow. The sight of some poples houses is just astounding.
Now I know I am totally obsessed with cleaning, to a point that I am bordering on ocd. But these people are totally filthy!! The sitting room is usually filled to the brim with litter, cats or dogs excriment, and empty and dirty plates.
The site of the kitchen usually inspires a great big arghhhhh from me and my family. My 9 year old daughter finds it highly amusing that they are so dirty. I think she finds my reaction hysterical as I am usually dry retching.
How these people could live like this is beyond me. i usually get really annoyed with these people. I end up screaming at the tv ' You lazy sods!!' However in a way I think i am being slightly unfair. Yes they should clean up after themselves, But i think many of them have got into such a mess that they really do not know how or where to start cleaning it up. In fairness it must take a lot of courage to nominate yourself for this show. As it is totally humiliating to have the whole public see how dirty they are.
Kim and Aggy are such great characters. Kim in particular is a larger than life personality. She amazes me how she sniffs things. She will open the fridge see a mouldy tin of pilchards and have a sniff of it. That woman must have a stomach as stong as an ox. Her main role in this show is to show the house owner some tips on how to clean things. She as some fantastic tips for all manner of cleaning issues. And I love to tryout her advice in my own home. Kim prefers to use natural cleaning products such a sliced lemon and vinegar and I have to say the effectiveness of these is amazing.
Aggy has the more scientific role. She scours the house with her swabs that she collects and then sends off to the lab. The results of these are gruesome. The amount of bugs and mites that are found under the microscope is hideous.
Basically Kim, Aggy and the team of industrial cleaners. Clear and clean the house within an inch of its life. The home owner is then taken around the house room by room in order to see the new dramatic clean transformation. I tend to sometimes get a little choked when I see some peoples reactions to this. They are so grateful and relieved that they can finally live in a clean and tidy home.
Kim and Aggy then go on their merry way via the little red van. discussing how well the transformation has gone and how they think the house owner will work to keep the house clean.
They then return at the very end of the programme in order to see the owner and to have a nose around in order to see if they have kept the place clean. I find that most of the home owners stories are heartwarming as they have a new found pride in their home.
I love this show, as it makes me laugh, cringe, shout and cry. It is so intresting and amazing to see how other people live. I dont think the show would be the same without Kim and aggy. The banter they have with each other and Kims 'oh matron' comedic character adds to the entertainment of the show.
Kim has recently been shot to a higher rung of the fame ladder as she appeared on Im a celebrity. She was amazing on this show. But she let out a bit of gossip that her and aggy did not like each other and dont get on. She said she would never do another series because she couldnt be paired with this woman.
What a shame! Although I often felt as thought there was an underlying tension between these two. Oh well we will just have to survive on the repeats. Whilst these two ladies hang up the fab sparkly sequined and feathered rubber gloves they always wore...................... I wonder if they would give those gloves to me. You can never be to glam darling!!!
You can just imagine the look on the commissioning editors' faces when the producers pitched this idea: we'll get two ladies to go to dirty houses and clean them!
Yet How Clean is your house is strangely watchable. Repeats are currently on More4 and follow the "nation's dream clean team" Kim Woodburn and Aggie McKenzie as they visit some disgusting houses, (with the help of a specialist cleaning team, who should be acknowledged for their wonderful work!).
Kim is a professional cleaner and Aggie is a household journalist, who has a column in the Saturday Times magazine where people can write in and ask for her help with cleaning questions. Together the pair of them turn up in their bright red van (Nice Clean Van written on the back!) at people's houses to assess just how dirty they are. And the answer is "very". I think the reason I watch this is that it makes me feel better about my own house! They give the owners a telling off, try to find out why they're so dirty and then set about cleaning up, usually using natural substances such as lemon juice, toothpaste and vinegar where possible.
While the house is being cleaned, Aggie takes bacteria samples from strategic places within the house and gets them checked out by a lab so she can shock the householders with the results.
At the end of the programme, the subjects of the programmes are reintroduced to their houses after a thorough clean, which sees some truly astonishing transformations. Sometimes Kim and Aggie will return to the "grime scene" two weeks later to see if the house is returning to its former state or if the owner has changed their ways!
Sometimes Kim and Aggie arrive at the local shopping centre to take questions from people in the town, and this, as well as the rest of the programme throws up some brilliant tips. And there's nothing like seeing the contents of the average mattress to inspire cleaning! Since I've started watching this, I've been hoovering my mattress and cleaning my fridge once a week!
This is a cleaning programme that's aired on More4 on a Sunday afternoon. Kim Woodburn and Aggie McKenzie go to various houses and help the owners get there houses clean and hygienic.
What's it about?
Kim and Aggie visit some of the filthiest houses in Britain and recently the US. They go in and teach the owners to clean and keep the houses clean. Aggie sends some swabs off to the lab and tells them what germs and sometime deadly bacteria are in their houses. They go in with a team and clean the whole house up so it is spotless again.
Is it any good?
Sometimes I wonder if these houses are set up and whether people actually live there. I am guessing though that yes they do. The houses vary from dirty to downright lethal. I think it's brilliant not only will it make you get off your backside and start scrubbing but there are some great tips. Since watching this I have learnt how much things can be cleaned but a bottle of white vinegar and look in my fridge and there is a lemon slice with salt on it to keep away odours. This program makes even the untidiest person feel like their house is a palace.
Would I recommend it?
Its does have some great tips but I would recommend not eating while you watch this it will soon put you off your food. It's also not for the weak of stomach. I have used a lot of the tips and Kim makes me laugh she is so harsh with some people but I think they need it.
How clean is your house is a programme aired on channel four. It is a programme about people who live in absolute filth and have asked the two presenters Kim and Aggie to come a clean their houses.
I find this programme almost fascinating as it is quite unbelievable how some people live. The people on these programmes aren't just messy they have just given up trying. Most haven't cleaned for years so their house is a complete state.
So in come Kim and Aggie who of course tell the house owner exactly what they think. Then they bring in a team of cleaners to begin to remove the rubbish and start cleaning. Kim and Aggie show the house owner helpful tips for cleaning using household ingredients and get them involved. Aggie also takes samples from the house and runs tests to see what bacteria has built up in the house in order to shock people into realising the way they live is not healthy.
The programme is only half an hour long and by the end the transformation of the house is revealed. It's quite a cheesy programme with over the top music and narrator, and Kim and Aggie don't stop nagging! But I find it quite enjoyable to watch and I like the helpful tips. It also makes me feel better about my clean house is!
Right, i have to start this review by saying that i really do not understand how people can enjoy watching this program. I really do not. It is essentially, nothing less than a program where 2 women, go round to someone who is horribly dirty and smelly, and cleans there house, for them to put it back in the same state.
Now, im sure we all find the task of cleaning very mundane and boring. No one goes "Oooh brilliant, i have an afternoon of cleaning ahead of me" do they, so why the devil to we enjoy watching it on television.
Unfortunately, i think that it is Britain's nature as a nosey intruder; people enjoying looking and seeing how dirty some peoples houses are so they can scoff and laugh, makes this show a massive success that has now spanned many series.
The show begins by the narrator taking you round the house of someone who clearly does not know an antibacterial wipe from a football. It spans around each room of the house, which are invariably all absolutely disgusting.
It then introduces Kim and Aggy, who come in and clean the house, using all of their cleaning techniques such as bicarbonate soda and vinegar.
At the end of the program the house is beatifully clean and everyone gets very happy.
This is followed by Kim and Aggy returning 2 weeks later to inspect the house. Its always still clean (its been 2 weeks) how can you get dirty in that time.
Obviously, the house just gets horrible again eventually, we just do not see that.
A program on cleaning methods and how to clean.....wonderful.
Seriously, why do people watch this?
Everytime I watch this show I am amazed that people out there live in such dirty houses. When this show was first aired I used to watch it all the time with morbid fascination but now it has been on for a number of years I am sick of seeing lazy people with no self respect who are not willing to clean their own house.
How Clean is Your House is another unique programmes from Channel 4, the latest series has been on at 8pm on a Thursday night but I think the current series has just finished. It has a simple format of two superior cleaners going into someones house and cleaning it up.
However, the houses they visit are not just a little dirty or untidy, they are absolutely filthy. It really is quite unbelievable how dirty these houses are, if you've not seen the show it really is unimaginable how dity these houses are, you need to see it to believe it.
Not only are they really filthy but they are filled with rubbish, most people put their rubbish in a bin, these people throw it on the floor. Often you cannot see the floor for all the rubbish, it is disgusting. On many of the shows also the house owners have pets and there will be animal mess around the house. I cannot emphasise enough how horrible these houses are.
Anyway cleaning experts Kim and Aggie come in their white overalls and clean up the house. However most of the time it is not them that do any cleaning but they have a team of about twenty helpers. First they clear out the rubbish and usually end up filling many skips, they then begin cleaning everything from top to bottom.
While the house is being cleaned Kim and Aggie attempt to educate the house owner on how to clean up but I think this often falls on death ears. Their tips on how to clean certain items can be quite handy.
At the end of the show there is a clean house for the person to move back into. I like the fact that Kim and Aggie will go back a few weeks later and check if the house is still clean, it usually is but after they've visited I doubt it is still the same.
The thing what surprises me the most about this show is that people actually go on it, why are they not totally embarassed and ashamed of how their house looks? They probably only go on it because they are so lazy and want someone else to clean for them, it is disgusting how these people live. I'm afraid this is a show I no longer watch, Kim and Aggie should let them do their own cleaning!
What sort of person lives in a house like this? A dirty minger is the answer. A person who lacks self respect and someone who has no shame in letting two pristeen women into their filthy homes to show the nation what shameless people they are.
How Clean is your House is the name of the programme and the answer is simple, if it is featured on the programme it is filthy and so are the people living there.
The aim of this programme is that Kim and Aggie will clean your house for you but only if it is so dirty that you can no longer get through the front door. I am longing to see the day that these ladies soil their white overalls having to climb down a chimney because there is no space left on the floor.
The person who is lucky enough to have their disgusting mess cleaned up by a team of special cleaning persons, explains why their home is in such disarray and the circumstances which have led to the demise of their surroundings.
Aggie and Kim forage around the inside of toilets and sinks that have new species growing inside them, and they proceed to tell the home owner what a naughty dirty person they are and give them tips on how to keep their home clean in the future.
They will show you how to bleach your nets, which is useful because nobody seems to have nets anymore. They show you how to clean your brass and lets be honest, if your house is underneath 6ft of rubbish, you will have forgotten you even had the cheap brass horseshoe that hung from some other obscure ornament.
The obligatory samples of every species of bug, bacteria and baked on 10 year old grime are sent to the laboratory for testing and yes, you have guessed it, they come back revealing trillions of bacteria that can give you e-coli and lots of other nasty diseases. However, most of the people on this show seem to be middle aged who have lived in this mess for an era, and still have all their bodily parts in tact. Fair enough, most of them look like they need a good wash and brush up, but no diseases in site.
I do wonder, as a bit of a clean freak, if i left my home to fester in a year of dust and grime, would i even catch a cold? This programme is not for those with a queasy stomach, but i enjoy watching the odd programme because the presenters are worth watching, and it makes me feel as if my home is positively gleaming.
Bring on the Disinfectant!
'How clean is your House' is a television programme on Channel Four, that I and my family have been watching, since it first hit the small screen back in 2003. The programme focuses on a home, occupied by an individual or family. In particular it looks at just how untidy and dirty it is. Don't get me wrong here. They are not looking at normal homes were the kids have made it untidy, or the parents can't be bothered getting the hoover out twice a week. Here they look at houses that are way beyond that. They look at houses with years and years of rubbish, grime and muck strewn all over the place. Most really are uninhabitable. How people actually live in these houses is really beyond me. Personally I think that most have some kind of Mental Disorders - this isn't a criticism, but more an observation, as most 'normal' people would not live in such a hovel.
So okay you get the idea now. The producers have found a really disgusting house that hasn't been cleaned for many years. They then send Kim and Aggie (Kim Woodburn and Aggie Mackenzie) to pay them a visit. At the beginning of the programme you find them arrive in their Van and enter the house. The voice over and the music, sound alarmed at what they see.
Kim is really funny. She is the one with the pink feather trimmed rubber gloves. She is the larger of the two ladies.
Aggie Mackenzie is a Scottish international television presenter and she co hosts the show with Kim. She is the one who goes around taking swabs and then sends them off to the lab for analysis. The results are usually quite disturbing. The bacteria she finds is usually very harmful and she tries to use this as shock tactics to encourage the house owners to change their ways.
One part of the show I find particularly interesting, whilst Kim and Aggie have their own crew cleaning out the house, into a big skip outside, are the tips they give in cleaning. They show, for example, how you can get stains off the curtains, clean glass, and remove stains from the toilet with relative ease. They have loads of ideas, which they try to sow the householders. They also get them involved in the cleaning. I have used many of their tips and found them very useful.
At the end of the show it usually shows the house owners thanking Kim and Aggie for helping them get back on track. It is great to see how the house is transformed. The programme is fantastic. It is family viewing (just) and can be interesting how some others live. I remember once seeing a co worker on the show. Her house was disgusting. It came as a shock at the time, but not a surprise in the way she lived. You only needed to look at her appearance to see that she never looked after herself, never mind her house. Recommended!!
I am a nosy person in general, and love nothing more than a peep into other peoples homes.
I am a bit OCD when it comes to my home and cleaning it. Which is why I can't believe I actually enjoy this program.
Although sometimes, How clean is you house is a bit too in detailed even for me.
The concept of this TV show is two middle class ladies Kim and Aggie go to houses which are in need of a good clean.
The houses are usually dated in decor, and under years of filth and grounded in dirt, yet the people who live there do not do anything about it, until the cleaning duo arrives and kicks the owner into shape.
It amazes me how people can even live like this.
I feel sorry for the children who live in there, as these houses aren't even fit for a animal let alone a child.
I watched a episode last week. It featured a lady goes to the hairdressers every week, she was always clean and presentable yet her house was a pig sty. She was also what is know as a hoarder, so the house was really cluttered as well as dirty.
It really made shocking television..
The worst part of the show is always when they go to clean the toilet, So I would recomend not eating your dinner watching this.
Aggie also does some swabs of the house which always provides shocking results usually e-coli and listeria.
On cleaning the house, Kim and Aggie always return to see if they have kept on top of the housework, and to be fair most of the people do really well. I think I have only seen one return that the house was a bit messy.
I think what works with this show is that they also give you hints and tips throughout the show especially on chemical free homemade cleaning products. Which is great if a member of you family suffer with allergies.

So how clean is your house??
This is a Channel Four programme that is rather reasurring for those of us who feel we are a bit behind in our house cleaning as it shows people whose houses make mine look like a palace.
I must be honest because of the format this is not compulsive viewing for me as I find the concept a bit limited but it is an enjoyable occasional watch even if it is just to make me feel less bad about myself.
Kim and ggie are the battle axe duo who go into other peoples homes and dissect the cleanliness of the property or rather lack of as all the people on this show have sever problems with hygiene in their homes, some are just plain lazy while others are a bit ignorant of how to clean and keep clean a house.
As well as being entertaining it is also the sort of show that can be informative as well as you canpick up the odd tip here and there. The two presenters have a nice mix of cheery goodwill and then a nagging approach while they scold people and together they work well while on screen.
For me this is nice occasional viewing without being something I would watch every week.
