      very good deck

When investing in decks you need to know what sort of things you are looking for. For me, my line of work has brought be into contact with many different decks through the years, both of the vinyl and CD variety. If I had a preference I would say that the CD decks offer an easier option, but there is definitely something more fulfilling if you can master the art of vinyl mixing.

Gemini was the first name that I started with years ago and I worked my way through various decks over the years, through home and through work use. If you are looking at the higher end of the market for some snazzy decks then these will do the trick. A direct drive deck, meaning it boots in a flash with no need for the belt, easily plugged into an mains socket.

The look of the deck is very stylish with heavy duty silver paintwork giving it a very posh finish and crisp blacks working alongside it to offer an understated minimal chic. Pretty light to carry too, meaning you can set up in a venue with ease.

The highlights of this deck are the generous pitch bend and master controls which sit at the side of the deck. The thiryt two percent pitch variation is one of the best variations you will get on a deck for mixing purposes and the tempo control alongside will allow for even smoother beat mixing. Most decks usually go to about sixteen percent variation, so this is very impressive.

If you are a beginner or a pro, the adjustable start speed will allow you to work at your own pace and get to grips with the deck first. The same goes for the brake which will either stop dead or do a nice sensual slow down, perfect for a stylish finish to a set. Those who aren't so good with their beat matching can also use the illuminated BPM control to help guide them as they mix.

Well built, a sturdy enough arm rest and precision are the key factors here as well to keep in mind and this model certainly delivers on all those accounts. Designed mainly for club use or for the pro, expect to pay around three hundred for this model.

Dont be fooled, this is a great turntable

The Gemini PDT 6000 turntable is a great deck with some good features that at the time when new were class leading. Seperate control of pitch & tempo (2 sliders on the deck) were available, along with large range pitch control (upto +/- 32%), adjustable start speed & brake speed, master tempo lock, quartz lock, reverse play & digital screen showing either the pitch or BPM. The output could either be phono or line level (such as CD player) and a digital output socket was available too.

This deck is a joy to use, with everything very neatly laid out so as to all be to hand and with a very high torque direct drive motor, handling records is made much easier too.

The extra functions are useful for both advanced beat mixing and turntablists and although its not quite as prestigious as the Technics, mine have never missed a beat in over 5 years. Its just a shame that vinyl isnt what it used to be and mine are now living in semi-retirement behind a set of CD decks.
