Went to ATS Euromaster Oxford branch due to a rattling noise caused by a blowing silencer. Their mechanic had a look and said to me there was no problem in the exhaust system. Then he called their senior manager to have a look on the exhaust system. The mechanic then gave me a quote on a new exhaust system which costs £340. Brand new exhaust system is £70 in a local supplier. Luckily, my mate is a welder and done it in his garage.

I have just paid£262 to have front disks and pads replaced on a Punto plus a cv boot and tracking.I found out later that a Fiat dealer was selling a special brake kit for £62!ATS do not try to get the best price for their customers and the manager would not contact the Fiat dealer and would not consider a reduction in the bill.I shall not use them again but use a local one man garage who relies on repeat business.

      Efficient tyre fitters

A very slooooow puncture could mean only one thing. A trip to civilisation to have it repaired. The nearest and in fact the only puncture repair place in the vicinity is a branch of ATS Euromaster located within a grade II listed building in a conservation area. Beautiful. Or at least its neighbours were. Still I wasn't here to admire the architecture I needed a repair doing. The car park was deserted at 10:30am, the only vehicles in sight were ATS vans one of which was parked in the bay. No hydraulic ramps here. In fact the place was so quiet I half expected tumbleweed to go rolling past. I entered the deserted reception desk and was confronted with a handwritten notice informing me that they weren't currently repairing punctures whilst you wait due to staff shortages. I should point out that this place is in the middle of nowhere. Theres a bus stop across the road and the odd cow poking its head over a hedge but that's it. Its not really somewhere you can do anything but wait.

Still nothing ventured nothing gained and so I enquired if it were possible to have my puncture repaired since the three members of staff visible weren't exactly rushed off their feet. Fortunately they agreed to fit it in there and then. Sadly it wasn't the straightforward job I'd envisaged. My air leak was old age rather than a puncture and needed replacing. Fortunately a couple of clicks later they came up with a choice of three tyres, all held in stock to replace it. Applying various promotional codes a known brand was £5 more than a budget tyre and this was swiftly fitted along with a matching tyre for its mate at the other side as I always buy tyres in pairs. Their prices were on par with other tyre fitters in the vicinity. I doubt phoning around would have found me a cheaper pair.

The whole process took less than 30 minutes giving me time to peruse a very out of date selection of trashy magazines, still it made a change from What Car? The tiny waiting room with its pair of vinyl topped squishy chairs was clean and warm and proffered a coin operated hot drinks vending machine.

The branch in question also supply and fit exhausts although since I didn't have one fitted on this occasion I can't comment on either their fitting skills or costs.

Rather bizarely the work sheet profered on completiton of my tire fit informed me they'd checked my exhaust system for wear and tear and recorded my milage. I find this rather irritating. Had they said "would you like a free car inspection" that would have been one thing but this came across as touting for business to a captive audience and extended the job unnecessarily.

ATS have branches throughout the UK, your nearest one can be found here:

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A very refreshing experience :-)

**I would like to make it clear that this review is specifically about the ATS I visited in Welwyn Garden City, Herts and the services and products may vary from those reviewed depending on location **

      *Personal Background*
I drive a lot! I can easily cover 150+ miles a week for work as a community nurse and with having 3 young children I drive them here there and everywhere and their safety while doing so is paramount.

We have had our family/work car for just over a year (56 Ford C-Max) and having clocked up 20000 miles I thought it was best to get the brakes checked.
Brakes are tricky things in my experience - you don't really know that the pads need replacing until the grinding of the discs that they are attached to can be heard and felt whilst braking. Unfortunatly once you have got to the point where the discs are being used and so will need to be replaced the price leaps up to nearly double for what it would be to replace the pads alone.
I don't really feel comfortable in the very male atmosphere within garages and although I had meant to get this checked for a while when I pulled into my local kwikfit, and saw a bunch of lads outside with their souped up motors, I carried on through the carpark and rejoind the road on the other side, thinking that I would leave it for another day. Further down the road a spotted tucked away an ATS garage, which looked quite empty - no time like the present I suppose - and I pulled in.

      *The Company*
ATS Euromaster is part of the Euromaster Group and was established in 1961,. The company operates in ten European Countries, including the UK, which has over 450 centres. According to their company information on the website (www.atseuromaster.co.uk) they offer a comprehensive range of products and services, including: tyres, batteries, brakes, shock absorbers, exhausts, oil and MOT Testing.

Their website is extremely detailed and offers many helpful hints and information about all products and services. They offer frequently asked question sections on each product, and although not a fully comprehensive answer, there is enough there to know whether you need to get your car checked out or not by one of their professionals.
The website also has a centre locator, where, upon typing in your postcode or Town/city, and choosing which service your require, it will produce a list of the nearest ATS Garages.
The ATS website currently also has several other tips and hits with all aspects of car servicing and managment

      *The Brake Inspection*
The very friendly gentlement spent all of 15 minutes there and then checking the pads for me. The manager came over and explained that they were wearing down but still had 4+mm present, it is usually advisable to change the pads once there is only 3 mm left and what did I want to do, they were fine to drive but were wearing down so maybe I should get them replaced soon depending how how much I drive and use the brakes. I was also given a quote of 89 pounds for new pads and them to be fitted. I decided to wait for a few months so left feeling comfortable that my brakes were safe and weren't going to cost a bomb to replace if I did it within the next few months.

      *The Brake Change*
I popped into the garage two days ago to book my car in for new brakes, and an appointment was made for them to be changed today. I arrived just after 9am as arranged and after dropping my keys off I informed the staff that I would ned the car back by midday if possible for the nursery run. They were understanding and assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. They tookm my mobile number for if there were any problems they could get in touch and then I left to wander around the town for a few hours.
I got back to the garage at about 11am - earlier than atitcipated but the job was nearly done. I was given the keys back at 11.20 - in plenty of time to pick my son up from nursey and the job was well done with the car being in exactly the same condition as when I dropped the keys off - only with better brakes!
The price came through as £20 cheaper than the original quote which was nice. I paid promptly and left.

      *Customer Satisfaction*
According to the customer signs in reception, their employees are the most highly trained in the industry, offering the customer 100% confidence and satisfaction in the service recieved. I would agree that I received a very complete and satisfying service from ATS and recieved a quick brake change and was relived to experience the courteous polite attitude from the staff. I have no complaints and am confident that my brakes are working safely. The price I paid was lower than the quote, which is always an advantage when having to pay for unexpected repairs, and the service excellent.

I have never considered using ATS before, and as I usually struggle to find a garage with an atmosphere that I feel unintimidated in or would rather send my husband to to deal with it I think I will be more than comfortable using ATS again.

      avoid ATS!

Fitted my brakes incorrectly, leading to brake failure. Could easily have killed me. Complete lack of concern by the management of the branch when I had the car towed in by the AA. When I communicated with the company, they gave me a 25% off voucher on the next repair, which I will not (unsurprisingly) be using. Although the mechanic concerned was very upset, and corrected the fault, the lack of customer care leads me to suspect this happens often enough that they really don't care any more.
      Do not use this company!

Reasonably fast service by experienced exhaust fitters

**Please note the following ATS-Euromaster review is based around the service and products received from the ATS Garage in Newbury, Berkshire.**

        *Personal Background*

My exhaust happened to be producing a rather unique sounding boy racer noise, complete with a slight rattling of my exhaust box, so decided immediate action was required. I decided to take my Citroen Saxo (51 reg.) to the local Kick Fit dealers as they had always provided a reputable service in the past, however after an initial free inspection they advised me that I required 3 new parts for my exhaust, an Intermediate Pipe, an Intermediate Silencer Box and a Rear Silencer Box.

However after consulting their catalogue of parts I was told the intermediate parts I needed were not obtainable from their supplier, as my car was so “new” the replacement parts had yet to be included in the catalogues, so they were unable to help. The conversation actually stopped there, until I asked the question “well what do I do next?” I was actually assuming that might have called round nearby garages to see if they had the part.

The slightly helpful adviser informed me that I would need to contact an alternative Exhaust garage, suggestion Central or ATS, and see if they could help.

Using Kwik Fits car park as a suitable location to make my call, I phoned ATS and asked if they could help. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was unsure as to whether he could help, advising they would need to check my car themselves before committing to an answer, so considering they were only located 10 minutes away, I agreed to drive my car round to their garage.

        *Company Background*

ATS Euromaster, part of the Euromaster Group, was established in 1961, and operates in ten European Countries, including the UK, which has over 530 centres. According to their company information on there website (www.ats-euromaster.co.uk) they offer a comprehensive range of products and services, including: tyres, batteries, brakes, shock absorbers, exhausts, oil and MOT Testing.

Their website is extremely detailed and offers many helpful hints and information about all off their products and services. For example the information I’ve quoted on exhausts was derived from the ATS website. They also offer frequently asked question sections on each product, although I wouldn’t say they give a fully comprehensive answer, but I assume incorporating prices into the FAQ’s is asking for trouble! – For example with respect to exhausts (Information taken from the ATS Euromaster website):

Question - “How expensive is it to replace my exhaust”
Part Answer – “A knocking noise is likely to be caused by a loose fitting. ATS Euromaster will replace the fixing component – this is relatively inexpensive.”

The website also boasts a centre locator, where, upon typing in your Postcode or Town/city, and choosing which service your require, it will produce a list of the nearest ATS Garages. A search on Exhausts brought up 10 garages within a 24mile radius.

The ATS website currently also has several other tips and hits with respect to Fleet Management Options, Mobile Tyre Fitting Service, Brochure Requests etc.

        *Exhaust Repairs*

After arriving at the Newbury ATS garage, a young gentleman immediately approached me, in the reception area, and asked if he could take the keys in order to move the car onto the ramp to take a closer look. Handing the keys over I settled down for a wait, but was pleasantly surprised when he returned 5 minutes later to advise me that I was actually only in need of a replacement Intermediate Pipe and Silencer Box. A slightly differing answer to Kwik Fit, so I asked on the condition of the Rear Silencer Box, and was told it was only the connecting part that had corroded and this would be fixed with the replacement of the Intermediate Parts.

Unfortunately ATS did not have the required parts in stock, but the young gentleman quickly and efficiently phoned his main supplier to see if they were able to assist. Success! The supplier had the parts in stock and advised that they could send someone over within 2 hours with the parts.

At all times I was in the room when ATS were on the phone to the supplier so had no reason to doubt them when they advised this was the case. Before ATS confirmed the agreement of the delivery of parts, they asked if I would like a quote, and informed me the price was going to be in the region of £85.00, of which I thought was quite reasonable compared to exhaust prices I have been charged at other garages with my previous cars.

Agreeing to the quote, I was informed that the part would be available at lunchtime, and would I be able to return then for them to fit it. Quickly agreeing, they took my mobile telephone number, and my boyfriends (because I couldn’t remember if I gave them the correct number) and advised they would call me when the part was in.

        *Replacement Parts*

I expected a call around 2 hours later but after not hearing from for neary 3 hours I gave them a quick reminder call to see if my exhaust parts had arrived.

The gentleman who answered was very courteous and explained that the parts hadn’t arrived yet, but they were due any minute now, and he would give me a return call as soon as they were in.

Being an impatient little lady, I decided to drive round to ATS anyway, considering it was 10 minutes away, and figured the parts would have arrived by the time I got there. Luckily for me they had, and the receptionist said he was just about to call me…of that I’ll never know.

Speaking directly to the mechanic I was told that my car was next in line, so would be in the garage within the next 5 minutes. It was actually quicker than that, as I didn’t have time to finish my cigarette before I saw my car being hoisted up the ramp.

The actual service and parts replacement took just under half an hour, and due to the location of the garage in respect to the reception area you are able to watch your car whilst the repairs are done.

Once finished all that was left was for them to hand my keys over (they kindly returned my car to the front car park), and for me to pay the outstanding charge. I was asked if I had already received a quote, and I said yes around £85.00, to which I was told the price was actually cheaper and the total repairs and parts came to £72.90.

        *Customer Satisfaction*

According to the customer signs in reception, their fitting employees are the most highly trained in the industry, offering the customer 100% confidence and satisfaction in the received service. With respect to the quick repairs and courteous attitude from the staff, I would agree that I received a very complete and satisfying service from ATS. I have no complaints and my car now purrs along nicely, rather than having to endure listening to the boy racer groan. The price I paid was lower than the quote, which is always an advantage when having to pay for unexpected repairs, and the service excellent.

I have never considered using ATS before, and have always gone to Kwik Fit as I assumed they were more of a reputable dealer, but since my experience at Kwik Fit, which could easily have been a one-off, I think I will be more than comfortable using ATS again.

Ringing round saved my pocket having a hole in it as well as the car exhaust

My car needed a new exhaust. It had a hole in it. The car was still drivable and had not yet reached the stage where everyone glares at you as you drive past them but it was at the stage where perhaps it would fall off on a drive from A to B.

So my husband wrote down the car year, make and size and exactly what was needed so that I could telephone and find out how much it would cost and to book it so that we could take it in on a Saturday.

After looking up places under tyre and Exhaust I immediately thought that the best place would be where we get our tyres from as they would be the cheapest. They charged £198. so I thought I would ring up some more places.

Two places wanted to see the car first. This would mean driving 15 miles there, they would look at it, I would drive home and go back the next day again as they have next day delivery.

I think you might be interested in some of the prices for exactly the same item was quoted. Kwikfit £108.90 IMP £100, Ebley £92 locally £104 and the one we went for ATS £69.14 all in.

So the cheapest was £69.14 which he quoted and I paid and the highest £198.

How can it vary so much.

It definately is worth looking around.

Well we got the quote and they told us to go in on Saturday and they would have the parts ready for us.

On arrival we went to the service desk, gave them the key and was told it would take roughly 30 minutes.

We sat in a warm, friendly feeling waiting room with a window so that we could actually see the work being done on the car.

They had a bit of trouble getting one bit off but never lost their cool over it.

When it was fitted, they showed it to us on the car while the car was still up high. They also showed us the old exhaust and where the hole was.

          The exhaust is guaranteed.

The only "bad" thing I can say about this place is that they only had one womans magazine in the waiting room with lots of mens magazines, car ones etc, but of course I can understand that, but the womans magazine was very old!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

ATS Euromaster are your typical Tyres, Brakes and Exhausts chains, running up and down the country. They are situated in most big towns and seem to be running alongside quick fit in popularity, however good or bad that is. I have only visited ATS once, and probably will never do again, unless I’m in desperate need of a Tyre quickly, but I won’t bother taking their advice on my car! You see, ATS tried to con me out of some of my money, something which I don’t really like someone doing to me! I needed a Tyre, just for one of the back wheels. I had already gone to National Tyres, and they had quoted me £39 for a budget tyre. (I don’t really want a super tyre for the back, my front wheels do all the work, and I have better tyres on the front). So, I went to ATS to see if they could do a budget tyre any cheaper. Indeed they could, £32 including everything. So, I left them with my car for fifteen minutes while I walked round town and got a couple of things I wanted to get. I went back to ATS, who had given me a new tyre and my car was parked in one of the bays waiting for me to collect it. I went to pay which was all straight forward, however, when I had paid, I got a speel off the bloke there telling me different things wrong with my car, and it went a little something like this.... ATS: “Sir, do you realise that your rear shocks are seeping, and really could do with urgent attention” Me: “No, I didn’t realise, how bad is it” ATS: “Well Sir, the other back tyre is wearing on the inside due to the shocks, and they will also become very dry in the next few weeks, which means you will be back for new tyres before you know it” Me: “Oh right (with a worried look on my face), how much will it cost to replace them?” ATS: “Well I have taken the liberty of arranging a quote for you it and comes to £145 inclusive” Me: “Well I wi
ll leave it for now, and take the quote” ATS: “Ok Sir, but only if you are sure, I wouldn’t want you to have to spend money on new tyres again because of your shocks” Me: “Ok cheers” So, off I went to a garage I know down the road from ATS. It is an independent garage who are VERY honest, won’t do you out of your money, and will give a second opinion free of charge if you have had work done there before. They have their heads screwed on, they know if they are honest and cheap, you will go back. One of the mechanics there said that my shocks were absolutely fine. The reason for the back wear is that the wrong type of shocks for my model of car were fitted before I bought the car. He then went on to tell me that it’s not worth replacing the shocks just for tyre wear when a new tyre costs £32 and each shock costs about £60. ATS had indeed sprayed lubricant onto the shocks to make it look as if it was seeping. I wasn’t very pleased with this, so I went back to ATS with a mouthful, telling them what they could do with their shocks. They apologised, but said that the lubricant wasn’t anything to do with them and that National Tyres must have sprayed it on when I got a quote from them. Now, unless National Tyres can work miracles, there was no way they could spray my shocks, the car was at least100 yards down the road! ATS offered me a £10 voucher off a pair of shocks out of good will, I just gave it back telling them I have no need for it as I won’t be coming back to ATS again. That’s my own personal story, and there are loads more like it. You mention it to someone, and they have had a similar thing done to them. Whether it be brakes, shocks or tyres. ATS are crafty, and if they need money, they will look for work, and if they can’t find work, they will do something on your car to try and give themselves work. It’s amazes me the lengths a big company wi
ll go to to try and get some work out of you. On a sidenote, another ATS garage I went to when I bought the car refused to give me a free check, telling me that he didn’t want my work as I’m a boy racer and he doesn’t want the business to have a reputation! He was an old guy, having a fag outside the place....however, I thought this might just be a one off! Sad really that it’s not... So anyway, onto what ATS actually do: ATS offer replacements on Tyres, Oil, Brakes, Batteries, Exhausts....oh and I nearly forgot! Shocks! They have most parts on the shelves, so when you go in, you can normally get it done there and then. Service at the garage that told me about the shocks was friendly, even when I laid into them. I suppose they have go to be! However, this doesn’t make up for lies! Prices seem pretty reasonable, and seem to match most of the other chains in this sector. In fact, the one I went to had a sign up saying they would beat any quick fit price by at least £1! Oooooo!!! They also offer you a 10 point check, free of charge, but having said that, I bet theres never once when someone has come out after a 10 point check and not had a quote for something that’s wrong. If they did that to my shocks, think what they could do to my whole car! Unfortunately for ATS, their 10 point check consists of most things that you can do very easily yourself. You can check the depth of your tread, your tyre pressures and your screenwash pretty easily can’t you!? So why take it to ATS? The only thing of use that maybe some people can’t check themselves was the battery and exhaust checks. I mean, a windscreen clean in a 10 point check? They try to make it look good by saying they will get the bugs off your headlights....come on guys, we all know how to get rid of a few flies! I don’t like ATS, as you can probably tell. However, I have also seen a couple of good reviews, and people wh
o swear by them. They must go to a good centre, that’s all I can say. ATS got 1 star out of five from me. They are ok for a new tyre, and I would go again for a new tyre, but I wouldn’t take any crap off them again! I’d much rather go to an Independent garage, and now I do, I may have to wait for them to order a part for me, but it’s cheaper, and they are a lot more honest!
