      a great item

==ELC Play Road Mat== These play road mats are surely a must have for every little boy or even girl who enjoys to play with cars. We have had our one for a good many years now, since Jack was around 18 months old and he still plays on the mat now as much as he did when we first bought it for him. If I remember rightly it cost around the £15 region from the Early Learning Centre and this seemed like a really reasonable price for any sort of rug let alone one which doubles up as a toy accessory too! They can be bought in various different places as I am sure I have seen one in Argos and also in a few high street shops too so it is worth having a look around for either the best quality and the best price. However I really can't fault this Early Learning Centre one on either the price or indeed the quality of the item. It looks more or less as good a condition today as it did when we first bought it and it has been on jacks bedroom floor all this time. In our our flat it was covering a rather nasty felt tip pen mark which I couldn't shift so it was rather handy in that respect and now it is down on his new bedroom floor it is protecting his carpet from any other marks or stains he probably will make on the carpet. This rug itself is a short type of tough felt like material and it is easy to clean with a damp soapy cloth and doesn't seem to mark easily which is a good thing. The size of the rug is big enough for a couple of children to sit and play nicely with tons of cars and still have plenty of room to move the cars around. The rug features plenty of different places for the child to take their cars to such as the school, the police station or indeed the petrol station. There are plenty of roads and roundabouts for cars to be pushed around and it is really a great item to have with any toy cars to make for an authentic playing time. The rug is rubber backed although we do still find it moves position on Jack's carpet on a daily basis and needs straightening up but this is no real problem and I did use rug tape in the flat to secure it but this removed some of the rubber backing when we came to move and needed to get the rug unstuck from the carpet. All in all I have to say that this is a really fantastic item to have in any boys bedroom. It has endless play possibilities and is ideal to have if your child likes to play with little cars. Of course the larger sized vehicles don't really fit well onto the rug or the roads but this doesn't ever really stop Jack from using them on there. It has to be a top score of 5 out of 5 stars for this play road mat as it is a good quality item which has years of play and can hide a multitude of stains and protect your carpet from more! I think that justifies a high recommendation! I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Many thanks for taking the time to read.

Like I said, "worth every penny!"

I think over the years I've gone a bit overboard in giving my children the masses of toys I feel I didn't have growing up. I'm starting to understand why my mother kept saying "No, you have toys at home!" Oh well, live and learn. As you can imagine we have enough toys and stuff to run a day-care from our house. My boys share a room and thus they have the larger of the rooms in our house. The bunk bed is against one wall and the toy boxes are along the other side of the room. This leaves a bit of a dull gap in the middle as we have wood flooring. On a trip to the local shopping centre I was browsing the Early Learning Centre and crossed paths with the carpet road play mat. Both the boys love cars and this carpet looked just the right size to fill that gap. I paid £10 but seem to remember that full price was £15 (I had a coupon and it was in the sale). The boys loved their play mat and played with it for a long time. This was part of their room for a good two years and held up to a lot of abuse. It was regularly coated in cat hair, fruit juice and on one occasion nail polish (oops!). The washing process was easy. Only thing that took a while was letting it dry as that took a good day hanging on the line outside so you can imagine how much fun it is during the winter having it hanging about inside. One thing to remember when drying it is to not let it roll up and keep rolling it both ways to ensure it dries flat. A friend had this play mat set up in the corner of her wedding reception room with a handful of cars and it was good fun and kept the kids occupied during the speeches and later into the evening. There is a few of years between my children and they still played together nicely which was nice for me. The play mat moved to my cousins' house this year and is being happily played with there now as for Christmas we bought the boys the new version out by ELC. http://www.elc.co.uk/Big-City-Deluxe-Roadway-Rug/127812,default,pd.html Another thing from ELC that falls into the same category is the fold-up farm. They sometimes unfold this and make it an attachment to the play mat and then pack up the animals and cars into it at the end. The farm is getting rather heavy these days but it is funny watching the younger boy try to carry it around the room. http://www.elc.co.uk/Cobblestone-Farm-Storage-Playmat/120896,default,pd.html Worth every penny! © oioiyou 2011

A brilliant rug for extra fun play!

My twin boys are 3 this november and the past few months, especially since starting playgroup they have really grown to love role playing games and have a lot more imagination when it comes to playing with their toys. A lot of toys I bought them last Christmas I bought knowing they would appreicate them when they got a bit older. One of the many things I bought them last Christmas were cars, and LOTS of them, but I didn't just get them a garage to go with them they also had the Early Learning Centre Carpet Road Playmat. This mat is basically a strong and sturdy carpet/rug with roads all over it and a few realistic buildings scattered here and there to make it look how the real world does really. Now when I say roads all over it, I don't mean roads and buildings placed on top, or ones which stick on and can be removed or lost, instead I mean this lovely road picture mapped out all over the carpet is actually the design of it, brill! The buildings and scenery include a pond, a park, fire station, school, hospital, police station, a shop, bus stops, roundabouts and it even includes car parks. The surface of the rug where the roads are is not the softest and comfiest piece of carpet, but then it's not meant to be either. What I mean by this is it's not your luxury, fluffy carpet, it is instead just a very basic one, but that is what the rug needs to be, basic. Despite it being just a basic carpet it is very strong and doesn't wear easy which is good, especially knowing there are going to be children playing with it daily. There are no hazards that come with it though, except carpet burn really lol! The edges of the rug are rolled up and smooth, which again is no hazard. The bottom of the rug is rubbery meaning it remains in one place on any surface, it doesn't slip and slide making it a danger, yet it doesn't stick to your floor so you can't remove it or change the area you place it in either. Now a 'road' design may seem boring to some, but the colours are bright and cheerful, it looks fun and different and is, in my opinion, appealing for both adults and children. The fact it is a flat rug, means it doesn't take up a lot of space although it is a generously sized rug. It can be walked over, laid on, etc the way any carpet can, yet it can also be rolled up for easy storage if need be and laid back out flat again when the kids want to play with it which makes it a very convenient toy/rug to play with. Of course having two toddlers who are messy little pups there is often mess left on the rug, drinks spilt etc but using a carpet shampoo it cleans easily and it hoovers up well to, without scagging it or marking it etc. The fact it is a rather large rug means more than one child can play with it at any one time, which is another reason I bought it for my twins as I knew they'd play with it either on their own or together, this also means NO arguments .. Bliss lol! The one early learning centre sells now is a slightly different design to the one above but still includes roads and buildings. However you can buy a very similar one to the picture above from Argos at just under £15, which is again excellent quality and has a lot to offer, considering it is, afterall, just a rug! The roads on the rug provide a lot of fun with the twins vehicles as they usually use them as racing roads for their cars, but the scenery and the buildings allow them to enjoy some more imaginative play. The rug also allows them to be very independant in their play, which is brilliant as my boys are very independant and really hate it when I offer any help with their toys etc. This rug lets them play their own games, think up their own new ideas and games without mummy here having to interfere and show them what, and how to do it. I can hear them talking and babbling to themselves whilst they whizz their vehicles around the roads, stopping their fire engines at the fire station, and their buses taking children to the park or school. I can't reccomend this road rug enough, it may just be a rug it provides hours on end of fun and laughter, imaginative play and very independant play too which is brilliant for growing children who are learning loads every day.

A great gift that will last many years of play

A toy that can stay on the floor and not be tripped over or need putting away, fantastic got to have one of those lol. I actually got a road play mat second hand last year for my son which is originally from Early learning centre. It is slightly different from the one pictured above but similar layout. It has roads and buildings and trees on it. Having just looked on the Early learning centre website they have one that costs £15.00 and comes with some play vehicles too which I feel is a good price to pay for something like this. Here is the direct link to it.. http://www.elc.co.uk/Vehicle-Playmat-Set/110477,default,pd.html#pdpTab1 At this price I feel it would be a lovely present for a child especially as it comes with vehicles too. When I was little my mum used to get some hamper deliveries and when you broke the big cupboard boxes down the inside would reveal a road map, now shame they don't still do this sort of thing. I didn't have the toy cars but still liked playing with the road maps. My son's mat stays in his road on the floor and isn't a bother, he doesn't always play with it but when he does it will be with his cars and trains. He is 4 years old so knows how to follow the road around and park the vehicles. The top of the mat is like cheap carpet as in it isn't really fluffy it is basic carpet that you would use for matting. The edge has big black stitching around it and the base is white thin rubber so it could be put onto laminate and not slip around. I have put this into the washing machine and it has remained intact so easy to keep it clean from any spills or traffic accidents. This mat was already used when we got it and has been played with lots since we had it and I feel it will last for many more years to come, Like I previously said it isn't in the way being laid on the bedroom floor all the time and always avoids the clear outs. Very good value if paying the full £15.00 for it.

On the pricey side but lots of fun

I bought this playmat for my son when he was 6 months old. Young yes, but really I bought it for decoration in the first instance and thought he would 'grow into it' as opposed to those designed for nurseries that child 'grow out of' ***** What is it ***** Essesntially it is a playmat which is 130 X 100cm with roads printed on it. It is rubber backed so doesn't move aroound like some mats do. The mat is bright and cheerful and has pictures of different buildings on it. There is a fire station, police station,, hospital, hotel, snack bar, school, cinema, park, shop and a bank. There are various roundabouts, car parks and even bus stops. ***** What does my son think ***** My son loves this play mat. It is light weight are easy to roll up and store but I leave his out all the time. He is now 5 and probably plays with this mat more than ever. A box of cars and his mat and he is happy for an hour or so. He uses his imagination a lot with it, for example a bus picked up the children from school and took them to the cinema. He also has a strong desire to be a fireman when hes older so we have high speed collisions where the firemen come and rescue all the people. ***** The good bits **** Rubber backed to avoid movement Bright and cheerful decoration to a room Allows imaginative and independant play There have been a few spills on the mat but it has always cleaned - I even put it on a cool wash in the waashing machine (not recomended on care label but did no harm) ***** The not so good bits **** It is right hand drive which is a little strange but my son did not notice until a few months ago. ******* Value for money ****** This mat is currently selling for £25 on the Elc website. I can't remember how much I paid for it but I doubt it was that much. I just had a quick around and there is a similar one in Argos for £12.67 so I would recommend that you shop around. My son loves this mat so would recomend it but as it is on the pricey side perhaps a similar alternative.
