When I saw this toaster I immediately asked myself why all toasters aren't like this, it makes so much sense. By having a transparent toaster you can see the toast while its cooking and can therefore make sure it doesn't burn, and can have it toaster to your liking every time. This one has 2 slices and rather than have the bread placed next to each other by there flat sides they actually face crust to crust. This does mean that its quite a lot wider than you would expect for a 2 slice toaster, but it does mean that you can easily see both sides of the toast rather than just 1 side of each slice. The extra size is a fair compromise because if you are going for the novelty of it being see through then you want to be able to make best use of that. It terms of how well it toasts it is really good and even when not watching it to make sure it toasts to perfection, it pops out at the right time and you get a good bit of toast, which you need because lets face it the novelty will wear off eventually and you're going to treat it like a normal toaster most of the time eventually. One problem with it being see through is that you can easy see all the bits of toast that falls to the bottom, and while it's probably a good thing that it forces you to clean it more, I'd rather not clean it and before it was easier to avoid not knowing how bad it was. Ignorance is bliss so they say. The size of the toaster is big enough to fit even larger and thicker slice of bread so it toasts the whole of the bread rather than just most of it. Also with small toasters is the bread is too thick, it burns the toast without actually cooking it, but I haven't had this problem. The design is good and the stainless steel feels very strong and feels and looks like a sturdy expensive product. Overall this is a great toaster, and while the novelty may wear off a bit eventually I still make use of it not and again and it stills looks great in my kitchen.
I was given this as a birthday present by someone who knew I would love the novelty value of it, and they were right! I was slightly taken aback when I found out that they paid £170 for it, it is a very good product but if I was buying it I definitely wouldn't pay that. All in all, it is basically an ordinary toaster, with the usual crumb tray, cool sides and browing options etc that you expect. It is produced Magimix, until the toaster I had not heard of the brand but apparently it is a good household name. What differs about this toaster to any other out there (and I don't think there are any other matching ones available) is you can see right through it through the toughend glass panels. This means you can watch your bread shrink and go from white to golden brown so it is always cooked as much as you wish, so no more cold and soft underdone toast or hard and black toast that's been done too long. Unlike normal layouts, the bread is placed side by side lengthwise rather than one behind the other, so you can both of them easily through either clear side. A normal toaster will have lots and lots of threads of wire that heat up and glow so your toast is cooked. Instead for better visibility the toaster has a few sturdy metal strips which cook it, but it doesn't look as if they are actually doing anything so it is very 'space age'. I still haven't tired of watching my toast intently nearly everytime as it curls and goes crunchy and 'popping it up' when it's just right. When not in use, it looks very nice so is perfectly acceptable to leave on display so all can see it and ask 'what's this?'. You can then show off your see through toaster! In addition, there are the regular 'defrost', 'reheat' and 'pop' buttons that you will find on most toasters. Apparently you can warm things in it by just using one side of the heating, but I have never tried this feature so cannot comment. It also has the high lift facility for getting out smaller slices of bread. If you want it to look its best then the glass needs a quick wipe every now and then, and the crumb tray will need to be emptied as you can see into it. You can remove the glass sides for better cleaning but make sure you put them back on before you toast! This Magimix clear toaster is a really great and nifty kitchen gizmo, I would totally reccomend it but have marked it down one for it's humongous price, it really isn't worth as much as they charge.
