I say "without the bells and whistles" as this is not a 3D TV, it doesn't have Smart TV functionality and it doesn't have Freeview HD, all of which are functions that a lot of the market leaders have and features that you'll pay a LOT more to have.
If you want a TV that does its one purpose, and does it extremely well, this is a great choice. The picture and sound quality is brilliant. Its a true HD 1080p picture, and even standard definiton sources look upscaled and sharper.
I use it a lot for gaming, and the response time is great - I haven't experienced any lag like you may find in some other units.
The TV itself is an attractive unit - I was drawn to it because of its very thin besel, meaning that the whole size of the TV is not much more than its 40" screen. Its very thin, but wide enough to give it some support and you don't have to worry about the slightest breeze knocking it over...!
A slight downfall is that the TV only has 2 HDMI sockets, which is a minor inconvenience if you have Sky box/bluray player/games consoles.
For the price, it's a solid TV that performs well, and if the fancier functions of the latest TVs aren't that important to you, you can't go wrong.
I purchased this TV a few weeks ago, and I've been very happy with my purchase. This is my first LCD TV and is a huge upgrade from my old box.
Out of the box, the TV was very easy to setup. I had to attach the base to the TV, plug in a few cables, and I was ready to go. The TV settings were easy to setup, and within 20 minutes, I had my DVR and everything else hooked up
Picture quality was great on this 1080p display. The images were crystal clear and my high-definition channels looked great.
The TV only had 2 HDMI ports, which is fine for me, but if I could see how this could present a problem for other people. I hooked up my Xbox and my blu-ray player and was all set there.
I wasn't a big fan of the speakers. I placed my TV in a corner, and since the sound was coming from the back, it was muffled by the very close walls. I later bought a speaker system with a subwoofer, hooked it up to the tv, and the sound was then amazing.
Other than the speakers, I don't have any problems with this TV. All of the menus are very straight-forward and easy to read. The picture quality is great, and the customizations to fine tune the picture with the color, sharpness , and other attributes really allow you to get the perfect picture in any room or lighting condition.
We bought this tv as we needed a bigger one for our living room. I got sick of struggling to see subtitles and text, and having to move closer when playing on my playstation to try and see what was going on in the game. So after some shopping around, we decided to go for this one - it seemed like a bargain at only £399 from PC World/Currys.
Now I dont know much about tvs, but after reading other reviews on the internet this seemed like a good one to go for - all the reviews we boasting great picture quality. When it arrived I managed to set it up easily enough, nothing to complicated and I had it done and ready to go in about 15 minutes.
The tv itself looks a lot bigger than 40 inch, even in our big living room. The frame around the outside is also really thin so it gives the impression that the screen is alot bigger than what it actually is. It also looks very stylish and modern and asthough it should cost more than it did. The picture quality is superb, the colours are really bright and vibrant, and I can really tell the difference between this one and my old Tecknica television! The picture is also crystal clear, we watched a few blu rays on it straight after setting it up and they looked fantastic! The reviews I read online said that the sound quality was what let this television down however I am yet to find fault with it, the sound is very clear and the volume can go quite loud before the sound becomes distorted.
Ok now for some technical bits and bobs:
The screen size is 40 inches with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, so it is fully HD ready. It has wide colour enhancer plus which is probably why the colours on this tv seem so vibrant to me compared to previous televisions I have owned.
The TV only has two HDMI ports which let me down a little as I normally have my playstation 3, my XBOX and a spare one for my laptop. Its not too much of a problem however as I can just unplug one of the consoles to connect my laptop. It also has a USB port so you can watch movies and videos via USB. It also has built in freeview - but I cannot really review comment on this as we dont use it.
Overall this is a great tv, I am very happy with it and the picture quality is really excellent. It is easy to set up and use and has a very sleek and stylish design. For £399 I think it was a bargain - so if you are looking for a new TV, I'd say get one of these!
