      nice cordless phone

This phone is just not cordless which is perfect because I often misplace the handset otherwise or if I lose my mobile phone I always understand where this one is so I can ring it to find it!

It truly is a chunky telephone, it is about 20cm x 10cm so nice and solid. The buttons are big also it's merely a case of pick up the telephone receiver and dial a number and away you go. There is nothing complex about this so simple for me personally when I'm feeling tired, to work. You can ensure it is handsfree if you want by simply pressing on a button as well as the light will light up beneath it to help you view right away you're handsfree. This is useful although the folks who I speak to say it is not so clear. It's easy to put on mute too.

      Cost
The phone cost GBP30 and for that you get a nice looking phone with huge clear buttons that does its job.

      Dependability
I consider as you couldn't hear the other individual, the speaker went on it, it was actually quiet. The brand new phone has been working nicely for the past couple of weeks. I'll update this review, if I get any problems.

      Characteristics
I find the call log feature useful as I can keep track on who has called when I've been away from my desk. The speaker is not quite clear although I can additionally have the telephone on hands.

      Review
The phone would have been better if it was not inappropriate with head sets, while It is not terrible. This phone would be good if you do not desire a headset then.

      stunning looks

it is a shame you cant see a picture. This cordless phone is a minimal shiny black handset with shiny black base station which lights up in blue when it rings or when you pick up the handset. I bought this product mainly on its looks. I have two handsets, one acts as the master which is plugged into the phone socket and the other is a slave, both need to be plugged into the mains electrical sockets. It comes with a selection of ringtones, all pretty standard but sound quite luxurious. It also comes with an answering machine but I never use it because my phone provider gives me voicemail. The main advantages of this phone are it looks and sounds good. It can also store numbers, redial and has a clock and alarm. The buttons are flush and perfectly flat. Some disadvantages are: both handsets need to be plugged in, the slave hanset seems to ring one second before the master and on some rare occasions some calls were dropped for some reason.

      a good choice

When it came to choosing a new house phone the only feature which was essential was that it was cordless. Sharing a fixed line phone with a teenager is no fun and we both needed the option to take the phone to another room to talk in private. I was planning on buying a basic phone but a Tesco Clubcard offer allowed me to buy the Phillips ID5551 in exchange for my vouchers, the price at that time was £60 but it is available cheaper now.

This model is a combined phone and answering machine with a number of extra features, some of which work better than others. These include a 200 number directory, a choice of polyphonic ring tones, call management including call waiting, speakerphone and alarm clock. Many of the extra functions like caller ID are subscription services so I have not used them, others like sending SMS messages I have never bothered to work out how to use them. I tend to only use the alarm clock which is nice and loud and I like the fact I can set three alarms a few minutes apart.

I love the way the phone looks, it is sleek and shiny and black but unfortunately prone to collecting fingerprints. The handset is big enough to feel sturdy in your hand without being clunky and the overall small size of the unit means that it sits on my desk without taking up too much room. It is a nicely built unit which looks modern and feels high quality. The handset frequently gets left lying around the house and the loud paging function is a godsend when I am searching for my phone and I can hear it when it has been left in another room. The screen to navigate through the menus is fairly small but the text is clear and easy to read. Battery life is really good with the phone easily going a few days between charges even when it is used heavily. Even when the battery has run flat I have been able to use the handset again after sitting it on the base station for as little as half an hour.

I have always found the phone easy to use with simple menus and the phonebook being easy to access. Call clarity is generally excellent but for some reason the phone gets a bit crackly sometimes for no reason. The range of the handset is good with me able to use it within all rooms of the house and in the garden too without losing a signal. The hands free speaker option is also really clear.
The answering machine works well and gives a nice clear recording with up to 30 minutes of messages able to be stored. I normally leave the machine turned off but it is nice to know it is there if I want to use it.

Overall I am happy with my phone which is ideal for family use with only a couple of small niggles making it less than perfect and at the current price of only £30 on Amazon it is a real bargain.

      Good phone

My old house phones had recently started to play up, so I decided it was time to purchase a new set.
My main reason behind deciding for this set was the nice design. I opted for the silver pair with orange display. These phones are very slim and have a look of a mobile phone about them. The buttons are very simply set out which makes it very easywhen it comes to dialing numbers.
It has a function to save phone numbers and names, and this makes it easier when it comes to finding a phone number to re dial it again. You simply just have to use the scroll down button and it goes down throguh all the numbers you have stored, when you find the one you want you jsut click the green phone (dial) button and it begins to ring the number for you.
It has many different choices of ringing tone also, which is good if you want something different to the standard ringing tone heard on most phones these days.
The sound quality is also very sharp, and I have never had any problems with the reception of this phone so far.
Overall a nice simple house phone.

All in all, would recommend to anyone.

The ID555 phones are partof Philps "Design" range and therefore we did a bit of research to ensure that they wouldn't suffer from the age old problem of form over function. We were tired of old BT handsets which (despite having changed the rechargeable batteries) failed to retain their charge for more than five minutes and sometimes failed to work entirely - so wanted a good quality phone that would last us some time.

Although comparatively expensive (we paid £80 for two handsets including the base which holds one handset as well as acting as an answering machine), we loved the design of the bases and handsets - truly glossy black - as well as the feel in the hand and against the ear and the buttons.

Although the buttons are flat (forming the face of the phone), they are a reasonable size and because they are backlit in blue, they are easy to see. As buttons are pressed, the number dialled appears on the screen (black type against a blue backlit background).

The handsets are relatively light and are comfortable to hold. The batteries hold their charge well - certainly able to make two consecutive huor long calls with capacity to spare.

Various functions can be accessed from the handsets, including the answering machine, changing ring tones etc. A good feature is that the number of rings before the answering machine kicks in can be selected rather than the default 6 rings we've had on previous machines.

Call quality is very good even at a distance from the base, although when moving away from the base there is a momentary lapse in quality as the signal stregnth is increased - in an effort to reduce power consumption, the signal is only as strong as it needs to be.

Very easy to install - the base requires power and phone sockets while the additional handset just needs power.

The answering machine has plenty of capacity for domestic use (we've had up to 7 or 8 messages stored following holidays).
