A change from original Starburst, but I'd rather stick with what I know.

I fancied something sweet the other day and decided against chocolate, instead buying a pack of Starburst thinking this way I could spread my treat out through the day and still stick to my healthy eating plan rather than scoffing a chocolate bar within five minutes and then spending the rest of the day battling my desire for another one! When I got home I was a little disappointed to discover I'd picked the wrong packet up (since when have you had a choice with Starburst?) and this was actually a pack of Starburst Strawberry Mix, which I eventually realised meant every sweet was based around the yummy red Starburst from the original packets. This packet contains plain Strawberry sweets, Strawberry & Passion Fruit, Strawberry & Raspberry and Strawberry & Grapefruit. To be honest I didn't really fancy any of these flavours too much, but couldn't be bothered to go out again so it was these or nothing - I chose these. I must admit, although they were a tasty treat I'd much rather have a packet of the original Starburst as I enjoy the variety of fruity flavours and found these strawberry ones a little repetitive. They were lovely, don't get me wrong, but the range of flavours was somewhat limited by what goes well with strawberry and I found the individual sweets a bit samey. The Strawberry & Grapefruit ones were my favourites as they were sweet yet tangy at the same time, the tartness of the grapefruit went really well with the sweet creamy strawberry and I was very disappointed to find only two of this lovely flavour in the packet. The ordinary Strawberry sweets are very nice chewy sweets but I've eaten so many red fruity sweets that I'm finding I tire quickly of general strawberry flavours, I wish Starburst had replaced this plain flavour with another Strawberry & ??? sweet. The Strawberry & Raspberry flavour was very fruity and had a real raspberry flavour which actually was a very good imitation of a fresh raspberry, this flavour was surprisingly refreshing and nowhere near as bland as I had been expecting it to be. Strawberry & Passion Fruit. Well, at first really liked this flavour but it quickly became very sour as I was chewing which is not something I like in a chewy sweet. It doesn't taste of passion fruit at all in my opinion and has an aftertaste which can last for as long as 20 minutes, which wasn't a pleasant experience. A collective comment I can make about each flavour is that they are all much softer and stickier than the original Starburst sweets, they don't take as much chewing to get through them and they certainly don't leave my mouth feeling juicy and fruity! I have eaten Starburst, or Opal Fruits, for years and just think this Strawberry Mix version is gimmicky. Even though the flavours are appealing I don't think they resemble Starburst at all, more like a cheaper brand of fruity chewy sweets. I paid around 45p for this packet of sweets which is the same as normal Starburst, I don't think I'll bother with this pink packet again and will be more careful to choose the standard yellow pack of sweets which has stood the test of time.
