      A great and classic sweet

Ever since the new Home Bargains store opened in my home town I've been hooked on these bars. When the store first opened last year I was looking through all the cheap sweets they were selling when I noticed this bar of nougat. At 39p it was cheaper than a standard chocolate bar and at 113g it was much bigger. So I bought one, and ate it on the way home. I loved it so much I turned around and when back in and bought a few more. The bar comes in a flimsy pink and white wrapper which is not as substantial as a standard Cadbury's wrapper, but it is easy to open. Inside the wrapper there is one long bar that has two halves. A pink one that is raspberry flavoured and a white one which is vanilla flavoured. They compliment each other perfectly with the raspberry section providing a more fruity flavour and the vanilla half giving a more plain flavour. The nougat itself contains plenty of coconut and as a nice little extra there are large peanut chunks scattered throughout the bar which give it a bit of crunch and an extra nutty flavour. The nougat is solid and rubbery but not too hard. It's quite chewy which means you can't eat it very quickly. There is also a good coconut content which adds to the chewiness, and the flavour. As you might expect the bars aren't very good for you. The main ingredients are glucose syrup and sugar. A single bar contains 425 calories and 4.2g of fat. Needless to say you should not have one if you're on a diet. If the 113g bars are too big then also at Home Bargains you can get 4 more manageable 43g bars for just 59p.

        A very sweet treat

I had not had one of these bars for a long time, but stumbled across them at my local Morrisons whilst mooching around the sweet treats section. They are a bit of a blast from the past, so I thought I would give one a go again and see if I still liked them. The bar is quite big, so you do get a lot for your money. They are generally priced at around 45p. There are two distinct coloured sections that make up this bar which are pink and white. The pink section is raspberry flavoured, this is lovely and sweet with a nice fruity raspberry flavour to it and the white section is vanilla, that has a more subtle smooth flavour. I have to say that the flavours really do work well together. And not forgetting that there are a sprinkling of peanuts throughout the bar that adds an extra dimension to the texture and taste of the Nougat bar. The nougat bar is really soft and chewy when you bite into it, but there is also a crunch that is provided by the peanuts that makes it an interesting eat. Ingredients: glucose syrup, sugar, beef gelatine, peanuts, desiccated coconut, cornflour, flavourings and colour (cochineal). Each bar contains (based on a 113g bar). Calories: 425 Sugar: 68.4g Fat: 4.2g of which saturates: 2.4g So as you can see from above these bars are not very good for you, and its fair to say you would not go near one if you were on a diet. I have to say that although I did like the bar, I don't think I will be rushing out to buy one again. For me they are a bit of a pain to eat as they do get quite sticky, and because the bar is so big it is difficult to eat in one go, and a bit sickly to eat in one go too. Also taking a quick glance at the calories, I think there are a lot in there just for one bar, and I don't think I could justify eating them that much when they contain so many calories.

Barrat Nougat Bar- My Favourite! I have been buying these since I was little and I have quite lot to say about them! Barrat are a well known confectionary company who have a very good reputation for high quality goods. So, What is the Nougat bar? This is a vanilla and raspberry flavoured nougat with peanuts inside. This has a very dinstinctive taste. It is not too sweet but it is quite chewy as you would expect with normal nougat bars. The Look Nougat bars come in a distinctive pink themed packaging. The words 'NOUGAT' are written horizontally across the packet which makes this stand out! The actual bar is half pink and half white to fit into the flavours vanilla and raspberry. The TASTE This tastes absolutely lovely, it is not too sugary and I love the way the peanut taste infuses this with a little savor. The raspberry and vanilla in this are fruity and yummy. Price/Place We bought a 113g bar of this from the Co-Op and it was only 60 odd pence. They do sell these in smaller bars for around 30 pence. These are sold in supermarkets, petrol stations and convenience stores. Nutritional Information Per 113g bar, 425 kcal 4.5g of fat! I would not recommend eating this all in one go because they do have a lot of calories in them. Unless you are one of those people who just do not out any weight on. But, with me I tend to eat this in 2 or 3 go's. I do like these because they have a distinctive flavour and I love the way they look and they are quite cheap.

          Lovel, squishy, yummy nougat bar!

I have very fond memories of these nougat bars. In the school holidays my Nan used to buy me and my sister one every Friday from Tesco as a treat. Sometimes she would take me to Tesco with her and on these occasions I would never be able wait to get stuck in to my nougat and start scoffing it in the car. When I got to the age of about 10 or 11, that particular tradition died out but my love of nougat bars never did and I still love to buy them now and again. They are available to buy in most shops and supermarkets. Tesco sells them for 46p which is an absolute bargain. You get a 113 gram bar for your money. The packaging is eye catching with light pink, bright pink and white swirls and 'Nougat' written on it in chunky white writing. Inside the wrapper the bar itself is quite satisfying to look at - it is a large rectangular shape that is pink on one side (which is raspberry flavoured) and white on the other side (which is vanilla flavoured) with brown peanuts scattered through it. It looks a bit like a giant version of one of those pink and white school rubbers. The taste is fantastic. They are sweet, soft and full of different flavours. The tastes of the two sides compliment each other perfectly - the raspberry side is much sweeter and a bit fruity whilst the vanilla side is slightly more musky and subtle. The peanuts in them are nice and crunchy and give the bar a nice underlying peanutty taste. I love the texture of the bars - they are so squishy and rubbery, biting into one of these is very satisfying indeed! The only real problem with these nougat bars is that they are sweet to the point where they can become a bit sickly and I do sometimes feel a bit sick or overfull when I have eaten one. Unsurprisingly, the Barratt's Nougat bar is not particularly good for you. A 113g bar contains: 425 calories, 68.4g sugar, 4.2g fat and 2.4g saturates. Although, they are fine for a treat and, due to the fact they are a bit sickly, I often eat half the bar one day then finish it the next. Ingredients wise they contain: glucose syrup, sugar, beef gelatine, peanuts, desiccated coconut, cornflour, flavourings and colour (cochineal). Overall, I recommend this nougat bar if you are after a lovely, sweet treat that is a bit different to what you normally get. They are an absolute classic and have been around for donkey's years. I think they give most people a chance to have a good old reminisce about their childhood when they eat them.

I think the packaging is nicer than the contents

I had never seen these before until today when I went into Poundland in the vain hope that my Grape Nuts had returned. They hadn't but I spotted that they were running a 4 for £1 offer on a few varieties of chocolate bars and sweets. I saw this and thought well why not though I only got one of these in case it was not very nice. The packaging is pretty good, I do like that. I think it has a bit of a retro feel. In fact I think Barratt may be a company that specialises in traditional sweets because I don't really know their other products. The packaging is a mixture of pale and dark pink which works nicely though may come across as a tad feminine maybe. The word nougat is written in big letters and there is a small picture. One bar provides 170 calories, a litte less than a standard chocolate bar. The product is described as raspberry and vanilla flavour nougat with peanuts. It looked odd when I opened it. It reminded me of a cross between an eraser and a kitchen sponge. Half was white, half was pink and I could see an occasional small piece of nut. I wasn't impressed by the taste unfortunately. The white side was just very bland and had an artificial sweet to it that I just didn't like which is odd as I have a very sweet tooth. The pink side had a vague berry taste but again with a chemical overtone. The peanuts were completely overwhelmed by the other tastes and you really couldn't tell the difference between a bit with it in and a plain bit. It really felt like I was eating a rubber or a sponge with that kind of non-flavour. I am just glad I only got the one.

              Nice taste

**Introduction** I have just got back from my local coop on the day they have bought out Somerfield. and I decided to buy some Nougat as I saw it lying there in the wrong area I remembered my fondness for the distinctive taste of Nougat. I don't think I had ever seen this Barratts Nougat bar before so it was fate that I happened to spot it there lying on top of several different chocolate bars. **Barratts Nougat** This bar is one of the biggest Nougat products around and as part of the massive Barratt sweet brand. This is a Strawberry and Vanilla Nougat bar which also contains Peanuts. Like you would expect from Nougat this bar is very soft and chewy and has the distinctive chewy taste that you have come to expect from Nougat. **The Look** This is a very interesting looking bar with one side of white nougat and one side of Strawberry nougat and the peanuts are scattered around on various parts of the bar. I like the look of the bar as it looks unique compared to other sweets and it looks like it could well taste very nice indeed and I am pleased to say it does taste very nice indeed. **The Taste** One you bite into the nougat bar you will get the hint of the vanilla and strawberry flavours which make up the bar, you will also notice the peanuts in there and they may come as a shock if you arent aware that there are peanuts inside as most people don't look at the ingredients too much before they eat something unless they are allergic to something and as nut allergies are very common it is best to check. **Availability** I had not seen this bar before but I have to say that I hadnt really been looking, You can buy this one for 62p which is a great price considering you get 113g for your bar. You will find the bar in you local supermarkets like Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons aswell as the likes of Wilkinson and anywhere else like that. Oh and of course the coop where I purchased my first one. **Overall** This is a very nice bar of Nougat and is up there with the best nougat I have ever had. However I do feel that it would be even better without the addition of the peanuts as they don't really bring anything to the table and can get in the way. Overall this is a very nice tasty treat which is great to share with other fans of Nougat. A highly recommended bit of Nougat.

                Disadvantages

If you are into your sweets give it a go!

Barratt's Nougat Bar ------------------------- Barratt's nougat have been around for years, however it's one of those products I rarely buy even though i love them.... I popped to the shop this morning and seen one so decided as I have not had one in ages, I'd buy two! I am now munching my way swiftly through them both as I type! Yummy!! What is it? -------------- It is a raspberry and vanilla flavour chewy nougat bar with peatnut pieces throughout. What is it like? -------------------- For all the world it looks like a hard sponge or really big children's eraser! It is pink and white, a section of each colour, and the peanut pieces are clearly visible the whole way through. It feels a little rubbery and slightly sticky to the touch and the edges of the bar are lightly dusted with what can only be best described as a sweet flour, castor sugar perhaps. How does it taste? ------------------------ Well, I must admit it tastes a little different to how I remember it, however it is still tasty. Had I not known, i probably would not have guessed the pink part was raspberry flavour, the white clearly tastes of vanilla and there is also a lovely nutty taste throughout. There is a certain satisfaction to be had from biting into its rubbery texture and I love the dusted outsides. Overall, it is very sweet, perhaps a little too sweet for this time of the day. In ways it reminds me of the taste of those bags of pink and white marshmallows you get in the supermarket. How is it packaged? ------------------------ The nougat comes in a pink plastic wrapper with the Barratts sign in the top left hand corner. You really can't miss the fact that it is a nougat bar as its printed in huge whit lettering across the front! The packaging then has all the usual information, who made it, where it was made, what it is made of, nutritional information and it also states that it may be recycled. Ingredients ----------------- The nougat is made of the following ingredients: Glucose syrup Sugar Beef gelatine Peanuts Desiccated coconut Cornflour Flavourings Colour ( Cochineal ) ** It contains peanuts so is unsuitable for those who may have a nut allergy** Additional Information ---------------------------- There is no weight printed on the wrapper, however each bar weighs just over 50g. In each bar there are 170 calories, 1.6g fat, 36.3g carbohydrate and 2g protein. These bars contain all natural flavours and colours. These nougat bars cost around 40p and are available from most shops and supermarkets. Bigger nougat bars are now also available. What's my verdict? ---------------------- Well, Im a big kid and have always loved these bars although I seem to be the only one in the house who does, even my four year old turns up his nose at them! I think the flavours work wonderfully together and the added peanut gives the nougat a strange but delicious twist. They are attractive to the eye, buth the product and the packaging. If you, like me, have a very sweet tooth then this is definetly a bar you should try, however I feel it may just be a bit too sweet for a lot of people. It also presents itself as a fairly girly bar and some may find the pink wrapper and pink bar a bit much! Also the rubber texture may put some consumers off. Thanks for taking the time to read my review xx

If you used to eat this you will now be disapointed, I was

Nougat is one of my favourite types of confectionery and when I was a child I use to eat Barrat nougat. It has a pink side and a white side and is coated with rice paper around the edges, it contains some peanut pieces. the colour makes it appealing to children as does the price. It costs around 38p - 45p so it is affordable to children with pocket money. It is also a rather large bar compared to other packets of sweets and chocolate. Children also like it because of this. When I came across Barrats nougat fairly recently in my local supermarket I thought I would buy one for my boyfriend and myself. When we came to eat it we both agreed that the taste had changed from when we were children. This soft nougat now just tastes of sugar and plastic. It has a very artificial flavour and doesn't resemble nougat at all. Barrats nougat contains an enormous amount of sugar, colourings and flavourings and lots of E numbers. If you use to eat this as a child I wouldn't recommend trying it now as you will be disappointed like I was.
