      Advantages

      Disadvantages

One of the better cheaper ones around

I have very pale skin and I don't tan at all well. This means that during the summer months, when everyone else is looking nice and bronzed, I look fairly anaemic. I do use fake tan all the time but I like to accentuate the fakeness, so to speak, with a bronzer powder from time to time, especially if I am going out for the evening and wearing one of my summer dresses. I can't usually afford to spend much money on cosmetics and for this reason, I buy Rimmel products a lot of the time as they are cheap but usually represent pretty good value for money at the same time.

I always use Rimmel Sun Shimmer Compact Powder as it only costs £5.61 in Boots and this little compact lasts me over a year without me having to replace it. It comes in a round shaped plastic compact with a see through lid. The lid lifts up fro the bottom and it has a hinge at the top, which means that I don't lose the lid and end up with bronzer scattered all over the bottom of my make up bag or handbag, if I am taking it out with me or on holiday.

The bronzer comes in a choice of four shades, namely light matt, medium matt, light shimmer and medium shimmer. I go for the lightest matt but I have also used the shimmer variety in the past and that is also just as good, it all depends on which type of look you are going for, really.

The bronzer is pale enough not to make my very pale skin look 'wrong' or obvious whenever I wear it, and it has a light natural finish and it gives me a much healthier glow. I have received a lot of compliments whenever I have worn this particular bronzer, but there is a knack to applying it. Get it wrong and you can look a bit of a fright, as I often did when I first started to use bronzers.

The only thing I don't like about this bronzer is that the longer I have it, the harder it seems to be to get any on my bronzing brush. It seems to compact down harder and firmer over time and this often results in me having to keep pressing down quite hard with my brush in order for me to be able to get sufficient onto it to apply to my skin.

Other than this though, I have nothing else negative I can say about it. It does give an instant natural sun-kissed glow to my skin and it also looks good on an existing tan if I have been away on holiday. It looks great on pale skin and I really do feel that it gives me a bit of a glow and makes me look slightly healthier and not so ill.

It's also well worth the price tag simply because the compact lasts so long and I also love the fact that the lid clips down nice and hard, ensuring the compact itself isn't going to escape or crack.

      Highly recommended.

        Disadvantages

        Brilliant bronzer for contouring!

I became interested in bronzer when I discovered make-up tutorials on YouTube, and noticed a lot of Beauty Gurus talk about contouring. My personal preference is to use bronzer to contour (create 'shadows' on your face giving your face a slimmer look) than to use it as a proper bronzer.

My previous bronzer was a mixture of different shades of browns in pearls, so it was nice to take a break from that and have a solid, matte, compact powder. I noticed this in my local B&M store for a generous £1.99. I felt that as it was a brand that I knew and had come to like, I thought that I owed it to Rimmel London to at least try their product before any non-branded make-up.

As soon as I got it home, I pulled out my bronzer brush and started applying. Due to my red and freckly face, the results weren't as concrete as I'd expected, but once I had applied my foundation and had an even skin tone throughout my face, without any red patches distributed evenly on my face, the bronzer was much more noticeable and I was able to contour, easily!

As some people may know from reading my past reviews, I suffer with incredibly dry skin on my face, and this makes finding and continually using make-up on my skin hard. After using this product for about 12 months, I have to say, it has not made my skin break out, or become increasingly more dry, something which is extremely hard to come by for me in the make-up world - especially for the impressive price of £1.99!

As a bronzer, this product does work well, but I feel that it's full potential is explored when using the bronzer to contour. The last time I checked, in B&M's this product is still at £1.99, whereas in high-street stores such as Boots and Superdrugs, and online places like Amazon, the price ranges but tends to start at £4.99.

If the quality matched the price, I would guesstimate that the product was around £12 - and even I would buy it at that price!!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Great for adding a splash of sun to your cheeks

I'm a big fan of bronzer, partly because I look horrible when I'm pale and partly because I don't like using foundation, I much prefer to just have a sweep of colour over my face instead of applying something that feels like it is clogging my pores! It's just personal preference however and I know that many people use bronzer as well as foundation.

I normally use a Barry M bronzer for every day use which is a really subtle and natural looking colour but in the summertime I tend to prefer something with a bit more 'oomph'! I have always liked Rimmels's sun shimmer cream for the body so I tried this bronzer first a few years ago and still stick with it now. I usually buy it from Superdrug and as I can remember it last cost me around £5-£6. It is available in light, medium, (and dark also I think) and in 'shimmer' or 'matte'. I usually go for medium and I usually choose 'matte' as I don't like to look too shiny! I wouldn't use medium in the winter however, as I think it could end up looking orange if you didn't already have a bit of a tan, it could look really unnatural, I just like to use it to enhance what tan I already have (if I've been abroad, because let's face it we don't get a lot of sun here!), so if your skin is pretty pale then stick with the 'light' one.

The tubs it comes in do have a habit of breaking easily, they normally come apart at the hinges which is a bit of a nuisance, but not the end of the world. It is easy to apply, just swirl your blusher brush around and sweep on your cheeks or indeed all over your face, and even your neck, chest and shoulders if you wish. It blends well and it also stays on pretty well throughout the day. It does last quite a while but it does have a tendancy to crumble into pieces when you get past half way through it which is annoying!

It has it's faults but it's a decent basic, budget bronzer!

        SunShimmer bronzing compact powder.

        The Product
        = = = = = =
the product is made by Rimmel and is a bronzing compact powder that adds soft, luminous quality to the skin with a Matte finish. The powder is ideal for an instant natural sun kissed look or to enhance an existing tan. Although I wear foundation I like my skin to look slightly sun kissed to tend to apply some bronzing powder to my face. I won't want to end up with an orange face but I do some a slight glow and some colour. I am currently using some bronzing rocks but I find this doesn't really give my face much colour but only a slight shimmery look which I don't always like as I feel as though it's slightly too sparkly for during the day. When in my local Boots store I decided to browse the different make up ranges to see what other products I could find. I have heard of the Sun Shimmer range before and have heard positive things about their products which is why I decided to purchase this one. It was also a lot cheaper than some of the other brands that were available to buy as well. I decided to purchase the Light Matte shade as I didn't want to look too dark and fake. I wanted it to look natural. They also do a Light Shimmer powder as well but I wanted to try and stay away from the shimmery products as this is what my current bronzing rocks were like. The bronzing powder claims to blend easily for a healthy sun kissed look. I was really hope that this was going to be the case and I wouldn't be left orange faces or patchy. The powder comes in a typical looking compact powder packaging which is a golden colour. The top of the compact is clear so you can see the product through the lid. It also states on the lid what the product is and the shade of the powder (in my case Medium Matte). The powder is pressed and has a sun shape which is slightly raised in the centre of the powder; this would soon disappear with regular use of the product. The powder doesn't come with a puff or anything to apply the powder with, how-ever this didn't really both me as I had plenty of brushes at home anyway that I would use to apply the powder with.

        Price/Availability
        = = = = = = = =
I purchased the compact powder from my local Boots store for £5.61, this product currently comes on offer under the 3 for 2 which includes make-up, accessories and a large range of other products. The powder is available in 4 different shades including Light Shimmer, Medium Shimmer, Light Matte, and Medium Matte.

        Using the Product
        = = = = = = = =
When applying bronzer I like to use a short but large brush with plenty of hairs for an all over coverage. I tend to run the brush over the compact and then sweep this over my face once. I then wait for a minute or 2 to see the result and if I think I need to apply a little more than I do. I applied my liquid foundation as normal and then got ready to apply the bronzer. After dusting the powder onto my face I looked in the mirror. There was definitely some colour to my face than what there had been more applying the powder. The colour didn't look too dark and look natural without making me look orange. I decided there wasn't any need to put any more on otherwise it may have looked too dark and slightly fake.

        Results
        = = = = = =
The powder left my face with a natural looking colour & it didn't look patchy or blotchy. I went out during the afternoon shortly after applying my make-up. The powder stayed looking great for a few hours, which is when I decided to apply some more as the colour was starting to wear off a little. I did have to re-apply the powder at least twice during the afternoon/evening. If I was going out on a night on the town I think I would definitely have to take the powder with me to re-apply throughout the night. The powder didn't last as long as I hoped it would and it was a bit of a pain having to keep re-applying it. I use a Simple facial wipe to remove any make up and the powder came off easily using one of these. The powder didn't dry out my skin or cause me to go spotty or blotchy which was good.

        Overall Opinion
        = = = = = = =
I have to admit that I did expect a little more form this powder as in terms of it lasting a bit longer than it did before having to re-apply it. The powder definitely gave me a bronzed, natural glow to my skin without it looking too fake or orange. I don't think I would purchase the medium shade as I am quite pale and I think this would look too dark for me. In terms of value I think the powder is very reasonable and I would purchase it again. I don't use the powder every day so I expect it to last me a good few months at least. I would recommend this product to others as I haven't yet tried any better bronzing powders/pearls which have been better than this. There may be better bronzing products out there but for me this is good enough, even though I do have to re-apply it.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A perfectly good bronzer for occasional use.

I bought this sun shimmer bronzer a while ago after I stupidly dropped my bronzer and it cracked into a million tiny fragments.

I don't tend to wear bronzer all that much because I have pale freckly skin and it looks a little Nicola Roberts circa 2005. I do find though it is a useful cosmetic to own for those brief days of sun we get and for holidays. Because I get through it so slowly, using it infrequently, I don't tend to opt for an expensive brand as it's only an occasional item. This also means that if I lose it or break it, both of which are likely, then it won't matter all that much because it was cheap and can be easily replaced.

The bronzer comes in a fairly standard plastic compact. I have had bronzers from rimmel in the past which has a twist lid and these often crack, don't close properly and are a nightmare to travel with because they open so easily. This compact has a hinge, meaning the lid lifts open and clicks shut. This is much better because the lid is not detachable and clicks closed tightly you can safely travel with it without worrying about it opening. Though the plastic is relatively solid I have found that the hinge is not and my lid has since broken off. The lid can still click shut but it isn't as secure as before obviously. This is pretty annoying but because it's a cheap product and I've owned it for a while I am not overly bothered by this, it certainly wouldn't put me off buying it again.

The bronzer itself is a nice terracotta colour with a slight shimmer, this is what I would expect from a bronzer in terms of colour and shine and it works well for my skin despite the paleness of it. I prefer to use it on holidays once I have a little more of a glow otherwise it can be a little harsh. It is also available in shades other than light - for those of you blessed with darker complexions. The powder is relatively hard which means it is less likely to create dust or crack into pieces. This is a good thing though it can make it a little hard to pick up with the brush. I tend to have to press quite hard with my blusher brush which can be annoying, but as I use it rarely this doesn't bother me too much.

I have owned this bronzer for over a year now and am probably half way through the contents which seems reasonable for what is infrequent use. It costs roughly £5 which is also a decent price for something that I keep for such a long time. I'm sure there are better bronzers out there and if you are a regular user then invest in something better. But for holiday use and sunny days this is a perfectly good, affordable bronzer.

Not the best out there but good enough for my infrequent use.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          a great bronze

I have decided that now that winter is over and summer is beginning, I want to look a little more tan, so I have switched my pink blush with warmer tones and started applying fake tan. I really like the Rimmel Sun Shimmer Compact as it has a really nice bronze colour to it and it is really easy to apply.

This compact comes in powder form, it has a cool sun shape design within the shimmer and it is designed to be dusted on, it can be used lightly on your face as a bronze or also on your whole body. I usually use this just as a bronzer on my face, though when I am looking to give my tan a little bit of extra colour I like to use it also on my arms and legs.

To apply this compact, you simply use a large brush and dust it over your arms and legs or where ever it is that you want tanned. I really like the colour of this bronze, it blends in quick and looks really nice and natural and just gives my skin that extra glow.

To apply this compact to your face, you simply brush a little lightly over your cheek bones and blend it in. This is quite a nice bronze blush and has quite a bit of staying power. It makes my face really healthy and bronzed.

It is really important that you do not use too much of this compact at a time as it can come off on your clothes if too much is used. I find that if you are wearing darker clothes that you do not really see it as much, but it is best to let it settle into your skin before you put on your clothes.

You can buy a Rimmel Sun Shimmer Compact in Superdrug for around £5.50, which seems quite expensive, but this compact lasts me quite a long time, I usually run out of this every 2 months or so if I am using it quite regularly, however I do not use a lot of it each time I apply it.

Overall I think that this is a great bronzing compact, it is a lovely natural colour if you do not over apply it and it really easy to apply. It does come off on lighter clothes as it is powder if you wear too much of it, but I find that it is still great to top up my tan or use as a bronze blush on my face. Overall I would give this compact 4 out of 5 stars.

            Disadvantages

            Shimmery bronzer

            This bronzer is truly amazing...

I came across this a few months ago whilst I was in Tesco, as we were coming out of the Summer months it was reduced to £2.00 which I thought was amazing for a bronzer being as though the last one I bought was Chanel and I paid £30.00 for that so I thought I would give it a go and see what the comparison would be like. So I tried this product...I will keep buying this until it goes obsolete!! I have the large version, the shimmering maxi bronzer which has been brilliant.

I apply the colour to my cheek bones where blusher would normally go , and because I have olive skin , this looks perfect. It does not blotch or fade, it lasts ages!! I would use this in the morning only because you do not need to apply this more than once it is perfect. I would not describe this as fake tan at all, this can be used in the Winter or whenever you like, it looks beautiful as it leaves a shimmer to your skin.

The size of this bronzer is 17g , quite a large pot. I can tell it is going to last a life time because I have been using it since September and it has lasted this long already with no flaking away or cracking. I unfortunately would not recommend this to people with pale skin as a more Rose colour would be better suited. It would look a little clown like. I think people with a slight tan already or olive skin should definitely try this! No faults what so ever.

You can purchase this from the Rimmel section in Boots and Superdrug, test it!

            Merry Christmas,

            Holly.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good value product but there are better than this on the market

When it comes to bronzing powders they are something that I dabble with from time to time. I am really very pale skinned indeed so have to be really careful when it comes to such products and there are a couple of powder bronzers in my make up collection that I tend to stick to and use all the time. However the other day I simply fancied a change and I spotted this one in my local Lloyds chemist costing £5.49 and I decided that as it was a little darker than what I'd normally go for and without the amount of shimmer that my others possess it was worth a go!

            The Packaging:

The compact is round in shape with a rich browny coloured plastic base and a see-through plastic flip open lid to the top of it and on that we are told that it is Sunshimmer Rimmel London, Bronzing Compact Powder (Poudre Bronzante Compacte) and that my option is the Medium Matte Shade and that the Net Wt is 0.39oz,11g. On the bottom of the compact other information listed includes being told a bit about the product and the ingredients are given an contact details for Rimmel are given (as well as some details given in a foreign language too). The compact is sturdy and serves its purpose well enough though it isn't at all fancy and there is no applicator and no mirror given.

            The Powder Itself:

In the compact of course it is set and hard with a picture of a star raised into it which with usage disappears over time. As I stated in the packaging details I have just given this comes with no applicator so personally I just use a large and good quality blusher brush and this can of course be applied to 'naked' skin or a made up face, over the décolletage or literally anywhere you want a sunkissed look really.

Now I only have ever seen this available in one colour option which is the medium shade for some reason. This medium shade although looks rather dark pressed into the compact but when used is actually a lot lighter and without a shimmer as such at all and is actually rather natural looking. It comes off on my applicator really well and rather thick and not powdery and hard to deal with and/or apply. I simply swish it over the skin and gently blend it in which is really easy to do so. This gives a very subtle colour to the skin which then you can build up yourself and it isn't an orangy shade. Personally I use this to highlight my cheekbones and/or swish the applicator all over my face to give a little bit of colour to my skin and also this can be used as eyeshadow so it really is a multi-tasking compact of a decent size this one.

Although I feel this is easy enough to use and control and I can't feel it on the skin once its applied and its none agitating and is smooth on the skin with no transfer at all I do find this to fade on the skin for some reason pretty quickly and for that reason I'm not all that keen on it. I simply want to my apply make-up an forget its there really. I don't mind having to reapply lipstick, in fact I fully expect that but I really can't be bothered to have to reapply this several times a day/night. The fact also that it has no applicator and/or mirror with it either seems a bit silly too considering if you pop it on and then go out and its need reapplying!

Its ok for about £5.49 a compact and you do get plenty of product for your cash however for me I'd rather stick to my better quality and slightly more expensive bronzing powder compacts in the future.

Available in all good chemists etc.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Would be better if it was slightly more pigmented but overall is a good bronzer

I wanted a matte bronzer for ages and I picked up this one from Rimmel. In boots you can buy this for £5.61 if you go online you may be able to find it for less.
Firstly the packaging - Its simple, really compact and easy to fit in your makeup bag.
With this bronzer I find that its not very pigmented but is buildable. Iv been using a stipple brush to apply this and find I need to keep reapplying to get the look I want. This can be good in the way that you don't have to worry about looking like a tangerine but its also a negative that you have to use more of the product to get a bronzed look.
I find this has a light scent to it, it reminds me of sun lotion. Its not over powering and you wouldn't notice it unless you were smelling it.
To sum it up I would consider repurchasing this but I would like to try out other matte bronzer's to see how they compare.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Just a blusher really....

I am always desperate to look a little more bronzed, and with the awful cold weather of this summer I have had very little luck in my quest for a real tan. This lead me to start trying artificial methods. I am quite scared of the more severe methods, like all over fake tan, as I have no experience with it. I was browsing the aisles of Boots looking for something subtle and effective to try when I came across this. It was in a three for two which made it extra worthwhile, so I thought it was worth a try.

The compact is small and round with a clear plastic lid which flips on and off. It doesnt come with a brush, you have to use your own one. I find the packaging quite old fashioned and not too attractive really, not what I would expect from the Rimmel range. Luckily it was the display in the shop which attracted me to the product as it was much more modern and exciting than the bland compact!

The compact itself looks quite dark, so I tentitively put a small amount on a brush and then swept it over my cheeks the usual place I put my blusher. I then planned on putting it on the rest of my face. As soon as I applied it it made my cheeks look more rosey and certainly had a bit of a sparkle to it, which did brighten up my face and make me feel less pale. The downside was that it was too shiney and obvious for me then to apply to the rest of my face. I was hoping for more of an all over tan product.

I think as a summertime blusher this product works well, the problem is I felt it was marketted as a bit more than that so I was expecting something different. I already have my favorite bronzing pearls so would not buy this again, but I have not been put off and have tried more products from the Rimmel Sun Shimmer Range.

            Summer glow!

When it comes to the summer, it means a golden tan, though just not in England, so there is only one thing to do -fake it!

This is a pressed powder form of fake tan. Though this is mainly for the use on your face, it can also be used for the body, though I am not too sure how well this'll work as I just assume it will wear off easily. I bought mine in Boots for the cost of around £4.

Unlike some bronsing powders I have seem that use a combination of three different shades, this seems just to be a block colour. It is quite a dark colour and is orangey brown in colour.

To apply I use a blusher brush and just sweep over the cheek bones, I do this very lightly to avoid having two orange stipes on my face. The bronzer itself is shimmery so looks shimmery on the face, which in some lights looks almost metallic. It comes out a lovely golden brown colour and does not look orange.
It does look fairly natural, althoug you can tell that it is make up, it definitley works well to make the cheeck bones look more defined!

It is in quite a large compact which makes me assume it'll last a while too, at least for the summer (what little we have of it!)

Overall I would reccomend this to anyone who wants a more tanned look!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Bronzer

I have always been a fan of bronzer rather than going for the pale and ghostly look. For some reason, my face always tan last before the whole of my body, even before my legs, which is strange. If anyone has an idea of why this is I wouldnt mind knowing!

I bought this Rimmel Sun Shimmer Compact from Superdrug for £4.49, when my current was nearly running out. I have not always been a fan of Rimmel, but thought I would give them a go.

            THe Product
This is a bronzing powder that gives you a slightly tanned looked to your face. Of course, if you apply if wrong or too much you WILL end up looking orange and like you have been tangoed! So please apply carefully. I believe that this product gives a nice glow to the cheeks and makes you look brighter as a person. Of course this is if you apply corectly.

            Ease of application
You apply this product with a small but thick bronzer brush in order to get the best results I believe. I usually just massage my brush into the powder and then pat on dab on each side of my cheek. Then I will sweep the brush over my cheeks in order to spread the powder a little and that is all I need in order to give me a sun-kissed look without going over the top. The application is pretty easy but of course there are people who will go over the top.

            Finish
I love the look of this product when on and will continue to wear it until my face finally tans! I feel healther with this on and believe I look healthier too, which is obviously the aim of the product.

            Overall
I love this product, but the downside of this product has got to be people using it wrongly and getting the tangoes look. I say apply with caution and you will be ok.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

This is a great long lasting bronzer

            DESIGN

This bronzer comes in a lovely tan colored circular container, with a easy to open plastic lid, its nicely designed with the sunshimmer name written on the lid in gold writing. It has a darkish brown colored sticker on the back telling you the ingredients in small white writing.

WHAT DOES IT CLAIM TO DO?

This bronzer claims to be a shimmering one it says it will illuminate your face and body with a sun kissed glow.

            ARE ITS CLAIMS TRUE?

Yes they are it has a very light shimmer not to prominent just enough to give a nice healthy glow. This is my second favorite bronzer next to the lancome one. It works excellently and comes out a nice brown color. The powder is solid and takes very well to the brush you use to apply it, it goes on smoothly and blends well.

            MY OPINION

I think this is excellent and in my opinion other than lancome, i think its the best face and body bronzing powder that i have tried. Its also dermatologically tested. It lasts quite a while and although slightly expensive its not as dear as some other bronzers can be. I love the color it gives me and i like the light shimmer too. In my experience its not one of those things you have to keep topping up and keep reapplying. You only ever need to add more after you use it, as you would normally if you want a deeper color. Once applied it stays on well until you decide to remove it.

            PRICE

In my experience of what prices i have seen it at it usually ranges between 6 and 7 pounds.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good product for younger people

This used to be my absolute favourite bronzer as a teen, however with a little more experience under my belt now, it is no longer a make-up bag constant!
This bronzer is good for creating a sunkissed glow but contains a lot of the "shimmer" element which can leave you looking a bit too glitzy. Especially if you want a bronzer for work or everyday wear.
Also, it does have a slight orange tone to it rather than a bronze. So depending upon your skin tone, it can leave you looking a little bit tangoed!
I think this is a great product for wearing as holiday make up when you already have a little natural tan, then when you apply it, it looks much more natural and complimentary to your skin tone.
If you are a more olive skin tone, this will not compliment your skin as it does not contain enough brown tones within it.
Wearing it, i found that it wore off quite easily but not only that, it came off unevenly, giving a patchy effect.
Having said that, it is easily affordable, and for that price, you can alway reapply where it goes patchy!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Great quality bronzer for the price

I am a disaster when it comes to applying fake tan for 2 reasons. 1. a am VERY pale and always end up looking like an oompa loompa and 2. I am a total idiot when it comes to applying things delicately. So i decided to try this bronzer to give me a little glow as summer approaches. I have a few bronzers in my collection that either make me look orange or a shiny disco ball.

How did the product look on the skin?
This was a nice surprise. Although there is shimmer in the compact it is not a chunky glitter look. It is very subtle and when the sun (or office light in my case) shines on you, you simply get a radiant glow. People have said i look 'well' when wearing this. It doesnt make you look like you've had a week in st tropez, but gives a natural radiance to the skin and that was all i was looking for. The powder has been quite finely milled before pressing. This means you can get a light dusting on the skin and build from there.

            Price/Where to buy:
Very affordable approx £3 bought in superdrug.

            Result:
Great for pale girls who are worries about going OTT with the bronzer.
