My holiday is coming up really quick now so time to dig out the workout dvds and I am thinking do them then review them 2 reasons to workout! So this review is on Davina Power of 3 which was released in 2004 and is one of the many Davina dvds in my collection. I can never actually remember Davina being big in the first place even when she first appeared in Street Mate she to me has always looked great so doing a Davina workout is not like a celebrity look at me I have lost weight dvd, no matter how many times she says she had 'cankles' (calves and ankles in one) I just can't remeber it. These dvds are ones where Davina is showing you how she keeps her body looking great. The workout is broken down into 5 sections each directed by either Mark or Jackie the married couple who are Davinas personal trainers: The warm up - here we warm up there is a bit of movement followed by stretches which are static, most dvds these days tend to let you do you stretches as you move which I prefer but these get you ready for the workout. The warm up is around 5 minutes not to long. Legs and Bums - This section is directed by Jackie here you have to do lots of jumps and squats and lunges you can really feel it working. The section takes the form of interval training 4 sections of 1 minute 'fat burning' followed by around 5 minutes of squats and muscle work, the great thing is that the dvd works in 3 sets of 8 so you never do more than 24 moves in each section for me it makes it easier to count and know I am nearly there. Upper Body- This section is directed by Mark and you will need some weights for this one. It takes the same fat burning then muscle work as the first section and the 3 lots of 8 but on this one you are working your arms lots of different lifts here and I can definatley feel the work on my arms. For this section it does say to use a chair for tricep dips but I do mine on the floor lifting myself off the floor and lowering down because my dining chair is quite soft so thats my tip here. Abdominals- This section is directed by Jackie fat burning then muscle work and counting in 8s applies again. On this one there are lots of sit ups, I do feel this section should be called abdominals and bums because the middle section does focus on leg lifts for bottom work. On this section the music is strange and the song in the first section sounds like it saying 'Clare' lol it always freaks me out I think it is actually saying there but its a really dodgy track look out for that if you have this one. Cool down- Here Mark and Jackie take us through the cool down Mark stretches our arms whilst Jackie does the legs. You will definatley need to stretch after the workout especially if you have done it one go. The dvd is a good workout and the idea is you can do a section a day though personally I think I am going to get more from it if I do the whole thing which takes just over an hour. I like the way I can count and know how much is left and I like how the sections are broken down into fat burning and then muscle work. The music is dodgy on so many levels but it is bearable, and I think Jackie does tell you to take it easy one to many times for my liking. There are easy and hard versions for each section which is good and I enjoy having that option sometimes. Extras on the dvd include- Davina on Clothes - where Davina talks about clothes she wears and how to dress for her shape it does not really have any relevance for me when working out. Davina on food- here Davina talks about diets she has done and an obsession with carbs and sweets its ok but once you have watched it once there is really no reason to watch it again. More Davina - here Davina pulls a lot of funny faces and its a bit of a behind the scenes thing again watched it once no need to watch it again and it is slightly irritating. Finally there is a 7 day meal plan to follow which is just a healthy eating guide which is good to follow if you want maximum weight loss. I give this dvd 4 stars as the music is slightly annoying but the workout is good and does get your heart rate up and can be done in sections if your in a rush. This dvd can be purchased from Amazon for around £12.
I bought this about 4 years ago and it was the first workout DVD I tried, to be followed unsuccessfully by several others. This is the only one I have stuck with. The DVD is split up into 10 parts: * Introduction *Warm up *Legs & Bums (Hard!!) *Upper Body *Abdominals *Cool Down *Davina on Clothes *Davina on Food *More Davina *Davina's 7 day eating plan Yes, it's very 'Davina', but I tend to just watch the sections from Warm up to Cool Down, the other parts aren't really necessary but a good added bonus expecially if you are looking for tips. Davina is flanked by her 2 personal trainers, Mark and Jackie Wren who do most of the talking, and Davina is doing the workout with you so you're not alone in a sweaty struggle. Jackie demonstrates ways to make the exercises a bit easier for those who find it difficult to keep up or want a more gentle work out, so this is a real plus-point. The warm up is just enough to get the heart rate up and then we go into the toughest parts, which are the Legs & Bums, Upper Body and Abdominals. Each of these sections last for about 15 min and have fat burning intervals in them which last a minute - these are enough to really get your heart rate up and you will need lots of water! What's good is that if you want to work on a particular part of your body or don't have time to do the full workout, you can just go to the section you want. The cool down is excellent and really leaves you feeling relaxed after what is a tough workout. In comparison to several others I have tried, Davina's is by far the best. I found Nell McAndrew's tough but boring and not varied enough (it just felt like 45 minutes of jogging on the spot to me), and Charlie Brooks' disappointing (the instructor is quite annoying, and the results not as good as with Davina), and several 'dance'-themed workouts which just made me realise I have no co-ordination. Unlike other celebrities' DVDs, this isn't a quick fix workout (where they seem to regain the weight just as quickly as they lost it) it gives real results and is fairly easy to stick to. Like other DVD's, the songs and banter get repetitive after a while but I sometimes put the DVD on mute and listen to my own music instead. Overall a great workout, you really can feel and see the results, and much better than the rest.
In my recent quest to lose weight and get fitter I've become something of a workout DVD addict! I've now worked my way through all of Davina's output, sampled Charlie Brooks and now moving onto Nell McAndrew (only for the brave!) But Davina's are so far my favourite, with her Super Body Workout topping my list, but the Power of 3 coming a close second. The Power of 3 was Davina's first DVD and is just over an hour long, moving through 3 different sections - legs, arms, and abs. It uses interval training to get the heart rate up before performing different exercises intended to tone up the muscles and lose the flab. If you've used the Super Sculpt on Super Body you'll be familiar with interval training and for me, this is a great way to work out as I hate being too out of breath. Leading Davina (and you!) through the workout are Jackie and Mark Wren, her husband and wife team of personal trainers. Mark is a ex-Navy bod but doesn't bring too much of an agressive military attitude to the workout (if you've used Nell McAndrew's DVDs you'll be familiar with shouty Army Man, whether you like or loathe him!) and is encouraging but tough. First impressions of the DVD are that it's a little bit dated in format - the cheesy intros to each section scream late 90's - but don't let that put you off because the content is good. The warm up last 10 minutes and is nicely explained as to which muscles you're stretching and gets the body feeling nicely warm. Davina warns you going into the first section (legs) that it's going to be hard work and she's not lying! Even after working up my fitness levels I still find this section really hard on my legs and they really hurt at times in this! Lots of squats - squats to kicks, squats to knee lifts, regular squats, low squats - and lunges and work that really focuses on the thighs and bottom (which is where I seem to carry a lot of weight so all good stuff for me!) As with all of the sections, you'll do a minute of interval training (star jumps, fast jogging on the spot, skipping with pretend rope) to get the heart rate up and then move onto the exercises. I can't believe I'm saying this but in this section I'm so glad when the intervals come, just to give my thighs a bit of a rest! The second section is the upper body, led by Mark, and gives the legs a bit of welcome respite. For this you will need a set of hand weights (you could use tins or bottles of water instead) and a chair. Compared to the Super Sculpt on the Super Body DVD it's a lot easier - no nasty squats included here (after the legs workout I think that might just see me collapsed on the floor!) You start off with some press-ups before moving onto using the weights in lots of different types of raises. The tricep dips on the chair I have to say are a real killer - by far the hardest part of the DVD for me! I like the fact that you can make this section more challenging by using heavier weights - I started using 1kg weights, moved up to 1.5kg, and am now using 2kg. The abs section is led by Jackie and uses lots of situps and variations on a theme - crunches, reverse crunches etc. Personally I find the intervals in this section not particularly challenging (presumably they feel you should be pretty tired by now!) so I do my own - as they say, it really doesn't matter what you do as long as you get your heart rate up. As well as the abs you'll work the bottom, oh yes you will work the bottom! The exercise that sees you lying on your side stretching your leg out behind you certainly has my bottom screaming for mercy by the end of those! And watch out for the Plank at the end - really tough and works the whole body and a great way to see your fitness improving. First time I tried this I could only manage 10 seconds and I'm able to last for 30! The cool down is nicely explained and stretches everything out nicely. I've not found that this left me with aching muscles the next day so clearly everything is working there. This is one of my favourite workouts - it's a good length to leave you feeling nicely worked out and buzzy by the end and is well paced for people who might be a little more unfit - most of the exercises and all of the intervals see Jackie showing a lower impact version if you feel the one Davina is doing is too challenging. I always do the whole workout in one go - once you've got through the horror of the legs section it's easy just to plough on through the rest. I love Jackie and Mark as they are lovely and down to earth but manage to be encouraging enough to push you on. The count well and sometimes the thought that I only have four repetitions left is enough to keep me going where I would have stopped. The instruction on the whole is good, with explanations on technique clear and well timed, although I would say they've improved this with later DVDs. Davina herself is as you would expect - bubbly and chatty. If you like Davina then you'll love this, if you find her annoying then this is probably not for you - although in later DVD's she tones down the chatter, in this one she has a free reign and whenever a track comes on that she likes you get the obligatory "Choon!" from her direction. I love her relaxed and natural approach and she comes across as someone who really enjoys working out and that these are the type of exercises that she actually does in real life, rather than just putting her name to a workout just for a quick cash-in. I also think she has a lovely figure and if I can look like that 6 months down the line I'll be more than happy! The music is better than many workouts I've done, a bit of Fatboy Slim here, some Groove Armada there, it's all dancey pop and makes a nice background, if nothing spectacular. The extras are worth a watch but nothing to really write home about - there is Davina on clothes, where she talks you through the kinds of clothes she wears and what flatters her (mildly interesting, but unless you have an identical figure you're unlikely to find this that useful!), Davina on food, a trip round the supermarket, but again, nothing really new here, More Davina, a look at the behind the scenes filming of the DVD, and a 7 day healthy eating plan. I can't deny the effectiveness of this DVD. I've been using this in alternation with the Super Body Workout for just over 2 months now and, along with a healthy eating plan, have seen a weight loss of a stone, as well as a massive increase in fitness level and huge differences in the way my body looks. I'm even developing a rather nice waist - something I thought I would never see - and my arms particularly are looking nicely toned. I bought this in a box set including this DVD and her 30 minute workouts DVD (which I don't rate quite as highly) which is a great price at £15 from amazon. Thanks very much Davina!
I have recently lost three stone, but despite running on my treadmill every morning I just couldnt seem to lose the last few pounds and get rid of the "love handles"!! So I thought it might be time to do some toning exercises to see if they did the trick. I bought this dvd as I heard that Davina's dvd's are very good - I'm not really a fan of her but if the dvd made me look like she does on the front cover I'd be happy! The whole workout is just over an hour long, and as the title suggests, there are three sections: Legs & Bums Upper Body Abdominals As well as these there is a warm up and a cool down section too. The workout is performed by Davina and her two personal trainers - Jackie and Mark Wren. Often Jackie will drop the workout down a level so if your feeling a bit out of puff, you can follow what she is doing until you feel able to join in again. If you do the whole dvd, you'll cover the following: Warm Up - Starts off easy! Lots of stretches and gentle exercises to get your muscles warmed up and the heart rate raised. Legs and Bums - Lots of squats!! And variations on squats too. This section is an absolute killer (it was for me anyway!). You do a minute of interval fat burning training, then a session of the toning exercises, to keep your heart rate up. The intervals are tough (even though one minute doesn't sound that long - it is) but you will be thankful for them to give your thigh muscles a rest!! The intervals consist of things like skipping, running on the spot or star jumps. Upper Body - This one requires some weights (I used soup tins - still with soup in though not empty ones!) and a chair without arms. This section I found was a bit easier than the previous one - maybe my arms are in better shape than my legs! It focuses on different ways to lift weights to tone up the arms and upper body and banish those bingo wings!! You'll need the chair not to sit on but to put your arms back onto, and lower your bum towards the ground and up again. This I found was the toughest exercise on the dvd, very closely followed by the press ups which I could only do a couple of!! Again this is in the same format of interval training minutes followed by the weights for a bit. Abdominals - If there is one place I desperately need to tone up its my stomach. There are plenty of exercises in this section to help with that! Lots of sit ups and different takes on sit ups, and exercises to help tone your waist and lower back. By this stage in the dvd the interval sessions are getting hard, you come to dread the minute of star jumps!! Cool Down - This has got to be the best bit, you get to sit down for it! Lots of stretches to help tone your muscles after the ordeal you just put them through. Overall I was very impressed with this dvd, and Davina is far from annoying! Its really encouraging to see that she is struggling with the exercises too, and counting down until the reps are over! You don't need a lot of room to do this - I did it in my small living room and it was fine. Also on the dvd are some extras: Davina on Clothes Davina on food More Davina Davina's healthy eating plan I watched these but didn't really gain any useful knowledge or tips from any of them, they are more for entertainment really! Overall I think this is a great dvd and something I have managed to stick at. I used to pay out £5 a week to go to a fitness class at our local centre, but I paid £11 for this dvd which is more fun, and that I can do in the comfort of my own home whenever I want! The only gripe I have is that unless you count as you go along, its hard to know how many more reps there are to go and they dont warn you when you are at the last one! So they are merrily changing leg/arm while you are none the wiser it was coming. But don't let that put you off - its a really good dvd.
A friend lent me this DVD as I've been too lazy to go to the gym or go swimming lately. Davina decided to make this DVD with the 2 personal trainers who helped her achieve a great figure after she gave birth to her second child. I wasn't sure I would enjoy this as very frankly I'm not a great fan of Davina. I used to like her but then became a bit annoyed at seeing her on TV all the time. But in all fairness I haven't seen her on telly for a while so I tolerate her again. Having attended a few workout sessions at my gym I can tell you this DVD is very complete. There is an intro explaining what you will do, some advice on what to have at hand (mat if you're on a hard floor surface, water to rehydrate, 2 weights such as baked bean cans and a chair). You're also warned not to do this if you're feeling unwell or have any aching body part. The exercising starts with the compulsory warm up which I found was the perfect length and got me ready for the next stage. Then you have legs & bum, which I enjoyed although I found it hard in parts. You then move on to the upper body, which I found great. I often wish to tone up there and don't know what to do, this had lots of fairly easy exercices which I'll be able to do again on my own. The next part focuses on abs. Personally I found it mostly hard but to be honest, I've always been rubbish at working out that part of my body. Finally you have a cool down session which enables you to relax and stretch your muscles gently. You're free to do the workout in one go (about an hour) or to only do the warm up + any of the parts + the cool down (about 20 minutes). I did it all in one go, struggled in parts but managed till the end. Davina, Jackie and Mark Wren do give a lot of encouragements and I think it did help me carry on. I didn't find Davina that annoying and both trainers are very likeable. Jackie who's on the left of the screen does the exercises in an easier way for those who can't keep up with Davina and Mark so you don't feel let down. I am now planning on doing this again in a few days. You're advised to work out 3 times a week and watch what you eat. Davina says she eats 3 healthy meals a day. I won't be doing that as I am a believer in eating every 3 hours otherwise my sugar levels are all over the place. So all in all, I think it's a great workout DVD and would highly recommend it. Amazon currently sells the DVD for £13.99 new or £9.95 from the marketplace but if you're lucky you'll probably get it cheaper from Ebay or charity shops, which are full of workout DVDs. Or you could borrow it off a friend like I did.
As an avid gym goer i never did home workout dvds...however the arrival of my twins put a stop to that!! After scouring the millions of workout Dvds i was recomended this. What also appealed to me was of course Davina. Everybody wants a host who is laid back, down to earth, good sense of humour and is willing to break out a sweat. And that is what she did!! Let me just say, three things make this work, the music is excellent and it is very easy to follow. Simple and effective moves. The leg section had me moaning and groaning and i loved the 1 minute cardio bit between each couple of leg sets. If anyone is looking for a workout dvd that does it all, i really do recommend this. For two days afterwards even sitting on the loo was painful..in a good way! The only gripe would be that the warm up at the beginning maybe needs to be ever so slightly longer/harder/faster so you feel a bit warmer starting on all those squats etc... It's also nice to see Davina in pain, but still giving everything she's got. It makes you do the same. Follow her ethos of doing this three times a week and eat 3 balanced meals a day and ur on to a winner!
Now, don't all laugh at me at once. I know, I know, I'm a man and I'm blatantly out of my depth reviewing a fitness DVD by Davina McCall, right? Well, no. I might have been out of my depth whilst trying the exercises on the DVD, as shown by the days of recovery needed on my aching limbs and torso. Davina McCall decided after having her kids that she wanted to get back into shape. She hired a couple of personal trainers, and they did such a good job that she asked them to make an official DVD of it, and here they are showcasing their talents just for us to copy them and get fit as well. Before I contune, let me say that this really does work, but it is essential to read the warnings at the beginning of the DVD. Exercise done wrong can really hurt you and they impress this on you from the start. I saw this and told my wife I couldn't possibly do the workout because I would get it wrong and hurt myself. She wouldn't let me leave......... The DVD is split up into sections. If you're anything like as unfit as I am, then do a bit at a time, and go with the woman on the left of the screen who gives you an easier workout than the other two if you're a beginner to this whole fitness thing. The first section is the warmup. Essential to the exercises, this is designed to warm up and stretch your muscles. The next three sections work on different parts of your body: Legs & Bums, Upper Body, and Abdominals. I did Legs & Bums one day, and then Upper Body the next, and Abdominals the third, and I was absolutely aching all over. The important thing to remember is that if you do one or two or three of these sections, you always do the warm up, and also the cool down, which is the next section. Following the exercise sections, there are other sections involving food and clothing. The good thing about the DVD is that is also prescribes a decent healthy diet which will help you get into shape better. If you're anything like me, I tended to do a whole section of this, and then reward my hard work with chocolate and slouching for the rest of the day - bad move. Undoing all the good I'd done and all that. The DVD was surprisingly helpful. I am still aching, but as soon as my muscles have recovered, I will do it again. It makes you feel better about yourself, and is cheaper than going to the gym. The DVD is available from amazon.co.uk for £13.98 at the moment, although I am sure it'll be cheaper somewhere else. Davina McCall has also released a wide range of other exercise and healthy eating DVDs, and while I haven't seen any of them, if they are as good as this one, then they might be worth checking out.
I bought this DVD after reading some very good reviews about it. I am not a huge Davina fan but they promised she wasn't too annoying in it so I thought I'd give it a go. Plus most of the talking is done by her two personal trainers Jackie and Mark. The exercises are split into 5 sections and are based on interval training. This means you do a section of stretching/ toning exercise followed by a minute of aerobic exercise to keep your heart rate up. This means that you will still be burning fat while you do the toning. Sounds great doesn't it? There is a simple warm up section where you do some stretching and get your heart rate up a little. The warm up is easy to follow and it is also very important as the work out can be quite hard work at times The first of the main exercise sections is for legs and bums. In my opinion this is the hardest of all the routines and I would always recommend you do this bit first, otherwise you may be too tired to do it properly. This section mainly consists of squats followed by various leg raises and you can really feel it in your bum and thighs. You will also feel it for the next few days so be warned! Jackie leads this work out and she will also show you easier versions of the exercises so if you can't do all the repetitions then you can follow her so you don't cool down too much. The next section is for your arms and upper body strength. You will need a chair and two small weights for this section. You start with a minute of aerobics to get you heart rate up then its straight into a section of weights. This section can be quite hard at times but you don't have to do all the repetitions straight away so it is easy to go at your own pace. Mark shows you the arm exercises and he gives very clear explanations about what you should be doing and what each exercise is for. Again Jackie shows some easier alternatives throughout. The third section is for stomachs and bums. Personally I would have preferred more work on the stomach in this section as my bum was still killing me from all the squats! Sometimes I just do extra sit ups while they are doing the bum bits. As with the arm exercises you don't need to do all the repetitions straight away so you can go at your own pace. You will need a towel or a mat to do these one, unless you have a very comfy floor :) Finally there is a cool down section, which is very relaxing and feels great after all that hard work. Really try to do this properly though as you will feel very achy the next day I promise. I must admit I have started doing a few extra leg stretches as I was so achy after the first few times I wasn't sure they did enough in the video. However it could just have been me being super unfit! Still a few extra stretches isn't going to do any harm. One thing I really like about this DVD is that it is split into sections so it fits in with the rest of my life quite nicely. I do the whole thing on a weekend (which nearly killed me the first time but persevere it's worth it). Then during the week I do each of the 3 sections on their own (with the warm up and cool down). E.g. Monday legs, Wednesday arms, Friday stomach, Sunday wholes thing. One thing I would say is that Davina can be a bit annoying going on and on about the music, which isnt actually that great, and shouting 'Tune!' every few minutes. This DVD is good for most levels of fitness as you can do as much or as little as you like. I have really noticed the difference in my fitness and my body shape. I feel and look great (well better anyway lol) and would definitely recommend this workout. Just don't give up after the first week as you will be very achy. I promise it gets easier!!
This is an excelant buy! I bought this and My Three 30 Minute Workouts before the pack came out and highly recomend it. Davina's so much fun wich makes the workout so much easier.The Legs and Bums section from power of 3 is quite difficult, lots of squats. You will really feel it the next day. Also her trainers are so much fun and have a wonderfull and friendly relation whith davina! Bottom line: great workout, fun and effective at the same time.
This DVD was given to me by my aunty as she said it was too hard for her and she was aching after doing it once and she had never done it again! Well I thought I would have to give it a go as I like a challenging workout so I kindly took it off her hands! If you wanted to buy it it would be worth checking Ebay and Amazon for a bargain as it is a few years old now so you might find it hard to get in supermarkets or other stores. The front of the DVD is quite simple and shows Davina looking very slim and toned, quite inspiring! The blurb on the back tells you all about 'the power of 3' which consists of three exercise regimes focusing on legs, bums and tums, done three times a week along with eating three healthy meals a day - so three is the magic number here then! Davina tells us we can either do a section each day, or do the whole thing a couple of times a week - if you attempted to do the entire DVD every day, you would definately firm up fast but it would be hard work!! I actually tried to do it every day for a couple of weeks but I soon got bored, so I would definately recommend just doing one section every day. Each section combines 60 seconds of interval training to get the heart rate up with toning exercises to firm you up. This, Jackie tells is, will help you burn fat quicker as it keeps your heart rate up! WARM UP Davina and her two trainers Jackie and Mark Wren (who are husband and wife) are in a very nice light studio. Jackie leads this session and takes us through some heel digs, knee lifts and stretches to prepare us for the main workout. The music is very uplifting and gets you in the mood! Davina is slightly annoying and keeps making jokey comments every two minutes, but apart from that, its a good enough warm up and I felt very prepared for the next part of the routine. LEGS AND BUMS Ok, Jackie is leading the session again and let me tell you, it is hard work and you will definately feel this in your legs and bums!! The music is great and Davina is shouting 'TUNE!!' every few minutes, but don't let that put you off! Please be warned though - if you hate squats and lunges, then you will hate this entire section!! Here is a breakdown of each exercise:- 60 second interval = jumping squats Toning = squats to kicks, squats to knee lifts, front lunges, squats to opposite knee 60 second interval = skipping on spot (no rope required!) Toning = squats and side leg lift, squats and calf raise, side lunges, rear lunges 60 second interval = jumping and twisting on spot Toning = squats with rear leg lift, lunges, box step 60 second interval = sprinting on the spot Phew - I was exhausted after all that, but could definately feel it in my legs, thighs and bums and felt like I had worked them thoroughly. Time to give the legs a rest now and move onto the upper body. UPPER BODY Mark is leading this section and you will need some hand weights or water bottles aswell as a chair. Again, we do 60 seconds of interval training followed by some toning exercises. Mark and Davina do hard versions of the exercises and Jackie does easy versions, so if you start to get tired, just follow Jackie. Davina also looks quite tired which makes me feel better! The music is again very energising and keeps me motivated. 60 second interval = jogging on spot Toning = press ups, bicep curls, tricep overhead, lateral raises 60 second interval = star jumps Toning = arm raises, shoulder press, tricep dips, hammer curl 60 second interval = jogging with knee raises Toning = upright row, shoulder press, tricep kickbacks 60 second interval = Boxing My arms were killing after this and Davina moans and groans a lot too, so you're not alone in the pain! Now, time for some abs work. ABDOMINALS Jackie leads this section but just kind of walks around telling Davina and Mark what to do, I get the feeling she's not as fit as the others haha - anyway this section is completely working the abs and its a good section for getting a flat tummy as we do a lot of reps!! Music is a bit more laid back, but still enough to keep you going. 60 second interval = jumping heel digs Toning = stomach crunch, oblique crunch, pulse, bicycle 60 second interval = jumping and twisting on spot Toning = knee to abs, leg raises, reverse crunch 60 second interval = skipping Toning = reverse curl, back extension, the plank 60 second interval = star jumps I am thoroughly exhausted now, and ready for a well-deserved cool down. COOL DOWN Time for lots of stretches with some chilled out music. I felt very relaxed after this - not much more to say really - just make sure you drink some water and stretch your muscles properly as you have definately worked very hard and you don't want to be in too much pain the next day! EXTRAS - DAVINA ON CLOTHES This section follows Davina on a shopping trip so she can show off how much weight she has lost following the birth of her children. She takes us to her favourite stores and buys lots of small cloths that she can now fit into! EXTRAS - DAVINA ON FOOD We now follow Davina on a trip to the supermarket where she tells us what she buys in her weekly shop - lots of water, vegetables etc. EXTRAS - MORE DAVINA This is a behind the scenes look at the filming of the DVD and shows Davina and the camera crew messing around EXTRAS - DAVINAS 7 DAY HEALTHY EATING PLAN Davina shows us a typical weekly diet with healthy eating tips and recommended meals. OVERALL This is an excellent DVD for toning and fat burning and it definately works. I love the interval training aspect as it breaks it up and makes you feel you are burning fat aswell as toning up. Davina is slightly annoying as she keeps talking and grunting, but its easy enough to just ignore her and get on with it. I do believe that Davina does this workout regularly as she knew all the moves and didn't get confused with any of the steps - you just have to look at her figure to see it gets results - and Jackie and Mark are her own trainers, so they have a great relationship and you can tell they spend a lot of time together. The music is great and includes Fatboy Slim, Roykssop and other dancy tunes. It is a very challenging workout but very effective and it is great value for money. I would definately recommend this if you enjoy exercise and want to lose some weight and tone up. If you are a beginner you might find it hard to start with but if you stick at it you will definately see results. If you prefer more dance based workouts then this is possibly not the workout for you.
Just after Christmas, I decided I really needed to do something about my fitness levels, as we usually all do after Christmas! So I went off my with partner and trawled the sales looking for a cheap exercise DVD I could do while my son slept in the afternoons. I knew Davina had released this DVD a while ago, and I had heard some good things about it so I decided I would give it a try. And of course by Davina, I mean Davina McCall of Big Brother fame, also presenter of Streetmate, PopStars The Rivals and her own chat show! When I got it home, I thought I would give it a try that evening to see if it was a good overall workout. Now I did feel a bit nervous as I am not the fittest person in the world, and I have never attempted to follow an exercise DVD before. But even before I started I could tell from Davina's relaxed and informa introduction that this was going to be a DVD suitable for anyone with any kind of fitness levels. So onto the DVD... Now Davina herself isn't the expert on the DVD, she is the celebtriy lending her face and body to the workout which she follows, called the Power of 3. The workout is led by Davina's Personal Trainers, a couple called Mark and Jackie Wren, both fitness experts. Mark is a former member of the Royal Navy and Jackie has been in fitness for many years, something you can tell about these two from watching the DVD! However, they are both really friendly and encouraging which really gives you an extra impetus to keep going! Now, the DVD is split into 3 sections: Legs & Bums, Upper Body and Abs. Also included on the DVD is a 10 minute Wrm-Up and a 10 minute cool down. I make sure I use both of these as I don't want to do myself an injury just doing a bit of exercise! The Warm up involves stretching of the arm muscles, leg muscles (you can really feel these stretches!) and just a general wake up for your body. I swear by this, I have been doing this DVD for months now and not had an injury. It goes quickly and is led by Jackie, with Davina happily chatting away throughout, which makes good fun viewing too! The first section is really tough, and it is for your Legs and Bums. This section has 3 1 minute bursts of interval training, which raise your heart rate and gets you burning fat. Usually this is star jumps, running on the spot, skipping or other high energy activities. Legs and Bums is very reliant on squats, and god can you feel it! Each exercise is 8 reps, separately doing both legs. This is tough but you can really feel it working. The section is led by Jackie. This section lasts for 15 minutes and then moves onto Upper Body. This is led by Mark, and does require you to use some weights to really get the full effect of the exercises. I personally use 2 cans of beans, that is plenty for me! Again there are 3 lots of interval training to keep your heart rate up. Exercises included in the Upper Body workout are bicep curls, tricep dips, push ups, lateral raises, and tricep workouts. You do need a chair for the tricep dips but I leave this section out as it is too hard for me! The final workout section is the Abs part. Thank god they left it until last! 3 minutes of interval training are included every 5 minutes, breaking up the intense tummy exercises. These are; crunches, sit ups, slow backs, oblique exercises, and some exercises to tone your back including back raises and "The Plank". They want 3 lots of 8 reps for each, which can be tough but each time you do the DVD I have found I can do more reps and I find it easier to complete the 24 reps of each exercise, something I am proud of! My abs are also getting harder which is great as I know it is not all in vain! This section also lasts 15 minutes and is led again by Jackie. The cool down is some calm stretches for your body to ensure that your muscles do not seize up, with some nice chilled out music playing in the background. This is a nice end to the high energy exercises you have spent 45 minutes doing! The thing I like about this DVD is that Davina is not pretending that she is finding it easy, you can see her sweating and struggling to complete all the reps, making you feel a bit better about struggling yourself! She clearly enjoys the workout and the relationship between her and her trainers is lovely to watch, they are clearly all friends. The music is a fun mix of dance and pop, with good rhythms that get you going. All of the exercises are explained clearly by Jackie and Mark and none of the mves are too difficult, even for beginners. With the interval training, Jacie always gives you the option to walk it through with her if you are struggling, which gives you a chance to get your breath back! Davina is also very encouraging, and I enjoy doing this workout. I find it fun, the reps are not over the top, and all exercises are attainable, and you will feel great when you find yourself being able to complete more reps as the weeks go on! The extras n the DVD are worth a watch. They include Davina on Clothes (how Davina's wardrobe has changed since she lost weight), Davina on Food (a bit about healthy eating from Davina), More Davina (a fun silly piece about Davina), and Davina's 7 day Healthy eating plan. This is a great workout DVD, and really does work. The interval training allows your body to start burning fat by raising your heart rate and the other exercises focus on toning your muscles and sculpting your body. I have noticed a change in me since I have started this DVD! I would definitely recommend it! Well done Davina, a great DVD! I know your all saying not another celebrity fitness dvd. Davina McCall and her two personal trainers Jackie and Mark Wren have put together a great workout dvd in just three routines. Also there is a great food guide on the dvd helping with dieting ideas, she also explains and shows how she got fit and lost her weight. The dvd consists of: Introduction Warm Up Legs & Bums Upper Body Abdominals Cool Down Davina on Clothes Davina on Food More Davina Davinas 7 Day Healthy Eating Plan This workout dvd has also got a great soundtrack which really helps, they make it good fun so its not a serious workout so is great for every level of fitness. They give you the option of doing the warm up and you can pick which section you want to do like you might just want to do the legs and bums or maybe the upper body or the abdominals. Then to finish you must do the cool down which is really relaxing. Or if your feeling really brave you could do the whole lot. When they start the exercising you get two options on each exercise move, either the hard version or an easier version so you can choose which is better for you. I highly recommend this dvd for anyone that just wants to improve there fitness level and lose weight and enjoy good music.
So we all love Davina McCall anyway, from StreetMate to Big Brother, shes always been the type of girl we can see ourselves going down the pub with and having a few jokes. So we knew that when she bought out a work out vid/dvd it wasnt going to be anything we'd seen before. It isnt, Davina and her two instructors have their funny banter throughout and time passes quite quickly, whether your warming up, working out or cooling down. The workout itself is very achiveable and you dont end up looking like your practising a mix between yoga and karate, because lets face it, we've all looked pretty silly by doing various excercise vids in the past! The workout is designed to work your whole body, from your arms to your thighs. The excerices themselves are standard excercises that we have all done before, there is nothing new or original on that front. You do the stretches, sit ups, marching etc..However we are not worked so hard that we feel like we're gonna colapase right there and then! I suppose Davina being a mum of three, she knows its better to be realistic and practical, than in pain for the next two weeks! If this is your first workout video, you are contemplating buying, then go for it! Its a great excercise program, which you can feel working all over your body! In the shops its only £12.99 (DVD) but im sure you can pick it up cheaper on ebay! Great value for money, in my opinion and something you can use a few times a week, is money well spent in my eyes! At the end of the day, if our mate Davina can do it, so can we!
