I must say to start with that I did not buy this item and received it free through taking out an MBNA credit card however i believe this gives me a unique ability to question its quality without the problem of knowing i spent too much on any football shirt.
The first thing that is noticeable about this product if the course stitching, having now worn it this is not a great problem but i would expect better from PUMA and the Premier League.
The material is thin and porous which stops it sticking during exertion (sweating) however this does mean it doesn't fall" as nicely and the material is neither the high performance standard of other brands for example NIKE nor does it offer the comfort of the softer materials used by KAPPA.
In relation to the logo's and sponsorship on the front there is a major improvement in relation to the crest as it is now embroidered and doesn't fall off like the 08 shirt however the Mansion Logo is still a plastic square on your stomach and again this reduces comfort.
In summary I am disappointed with the quality of this product and wouldn't want to play football in it however am happy enough with its quality when attending a game and especially with the benefit of an undershirt.
Buying football shirts these days is a pricey game. With teams almost certain to change their shirts every season, as soon as you have bought the shirt, it seems that its only a matter of time until it is relegated to the bottom drawer, never to be seen again.
Whilst on holiday, I was browsing the Tottenham Hotspur website and came across an offer which looked too good to be true. If I applied for the Spurs credit card and spent £100 on it in the first 90 days, they would send me a free away shirt worth £45. I duly signed up for the credit card and spent the £100 qualifiying amount, mainly by putting my weekly fuel onto the card. To my amazement, a week after passing the limit, a package arrived on my doorstep. My brand new shirt had actually arrived. I quickly unpackaged it and tried it on with a big smile beaming all over my face.
==The shirt in more detail ==
The shirt is made by Puma. This is my second Tottenham shirt made by Puma and the quality is of the highest order. This shirt is really comfortable. Made from 100% polyester, it is one of the lightest wearing shirts I have ever had. Despite this fact, it actually seems more robust than my previous one, for example, when I pull the shirt over my head, it doesnt feel as if I am going to put my fingers through the fabric. This was always a worry with my old shirt, although it never happened, it always felt as if it would do one day.
As this is the away shirt, the predominant colour is navy blue as opposed to the famous white on the home shirt. What sets this aside from previous away shirts is the use of the vivid yellow trim. This contrasts really well with the navy blue, making this more of an acceptable fashion item away from the football stadium. As well as the yellow strips around the collar, both sleeves boast yellow trim, starting as a thin line on the front of the shirt and turning into an inch thick line on the back of the arm. The final piece of yellow trim starts from the hip region in the form of a triangle and continues all the way around the back of the shirt until it reaches the hip region on the other side.
The front of the shirt in my opinion looks really superb. On the right hand breast you have the Puma logo whilst on the left hand breast you have the Tottenham badge. Both these symbols are sewn into the shirt meaning that no amount of washing will force them to fade or even peel off which I have experienced with earlier shirts. In the middle of the shirt we have the logo of the current team sponsor, Mansion. This logo is considerably smaller than the one on my previous shirt which took up most of the stomach area. This season we just get a small logo with the Mansion.com wording underneath. All sponsor images and wording are made of a very soft material, feeling just like fuzzy felt from my childhood days. Whilst I'm not entirely sure exactly what this material is, I would advise that you are very careful when ironing.
I am going to champion pretty much every Tottenham shirt that is released as to me, it will always be more than a shirt. Saying that, even if this shirt didnt have any of the Tottenham branding, I would still recommend it as it is just so comfortable. I would go as far as saying it is certainly the most comfortable football shirt I have ever worn and possibly one of the most comfortable shirts of any description. Obviously it is a football shirt and will only appeal to a limited audience but I would say this is a must by for any Tottenham fan looking to buy a shirt for the current season. If you'd rather not buy it, you can always apply for a credit card!
