      a pretty decent black sock

      ==Pringle Golf Strathaven Socks==

      My other half seems to go through socks like there is no tomorrow and although he would be more than happy to wear his socks with holes in there is something about a man walking about the house with a pair of hole ridden black socks that I just find repulsive so I tend to chuck them away at the first sight of any holes. So this is probably why it is me that has to end up buying him socks all the time as it is my fault that he is always short on supplies.

      These Pringle Socks were bought as a Christmas gift last year, naff I know but it's a running joke that for every birthday or Christmas that I buy him socks and/or under wear. The brand Pringle itself is a relatively good one and used to be quite big in the golf clothing industry. However since the Pringle brand started selling in Matalan I think this has put a lot of people off and it is not as popular now as it once was.

      I bought these socks from Matalan and paid £12 for a box of 3 socks. This is about right for a branded set of socks and I don't think you would find these particular socks much cheaper. Of course as far as socks go, you could get a few more pairs for your money were you to buy non-branded socks but the quality is pretty good with these Pringle socks too so you are getting a good value/quality deal.

      The socks inside the box all have the same pattern on but in different colours. The main colour of the sock is black but the classic golf diamond patterning to each sock does take up a lot of the socks area but the tones that they have used with each pair seem to work well and not look overly bright or garish. There is a pair which has a soft grey diamond pattern, one which has a dusky type of pink and another which has deep red diamonds on. Each of the pairs of socks have the Pringle logo (the actual name) stitched into the outside top ankle section of the sock. This is slightly raised though still soft and doesn't irritate the skin in the least.

      The socks are a fairly long length and will come up mid calf if pulled right up. The size we got were men's size 7-11 and my other half having a size 9 foot seems to fit into these well and comfortable.

      The socks really are nice and soft and I like the fact that they have a high cotton content at 78% the rest of the materials used being 20% polymide and 2% elastic. The socks although washed very often, have kept there shape and are always the first socks to be worn by my other half when reaching for a black pair for either work or play. They are really comfortable to wear and have a slightly thicker make up than a lot of his other socks which thin quickly and tend to be easier to get holes in.

      Because they are a little more money than your standard sort of non-branded black socks I did try to darn them when one pair got a hole in but this is obviously a technique that needs some mastering as it just made the sock lumpy and uncomfortable in my other half's footwear.

      All in all though I have to say that although more money than most socks these are well worth paying out for. They don't get holes in so quickly and they are far thicker and much more cushioned and comfortable than others that my other half has. The pattern on them looks nice and although it is not an item that he flashes around to anyone as they are always tucked away under his trousers they look smart for both work and/or golf.

      I think a top score of 5 out of 5 stars is in order and a high recommendation is well deserved!

      I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you

      many thanks for taking the time to read.

      You don't have to play Golf to wear them!!

      My sister-in-law bought my husband three pairs of Pringle Strathaven socks for Christmas about four years ago and they're still going strong. She's posh so we always get posh stuff off her so when he received these even though I'd never heard of Pringle socks I knew they would be good. I see on the internet that they're around £10 a pack.

      The socks come in an array of colours and styles but the ones my husband have are two black and one multi with Pringle embroidered on the side. They are 78% cotton, 20% polymide, 2% lycra and are sized 7-11, my husbands feet are size 9 and these fit well. They are calf length and fit nicely up the leg.

      My husband tells me they are very comfortable (but I already know this- when you can't find your own socks you have to steal other peoples) the cuffs in particular, they are about an inch in depth making them sit nice without digging in. I'd say the socks were medium thickness, they aren't thick but they're not particularly thin either. Although not thick they are still quite warm and surprisingly soft.

      The socks are in the same condition as they were when we first got them, the cuff is still elasticated, there are no holes in the toes or heels and they haven't worn any where. They're not worn everyday but they are used often. I bung them in the wash with everything else, they haven't bled, faded or shrank. Washing them multiple times hasn't compromised their softness.

      In conclusion I'm impressed with the longevity of these socks, I would never pay £10 for three pairs of socks but to be honest they have outlived all the cheap socks in the house which have a tendency to shrink. I would recommend them and give them 5 stars.
