~JUST BEING SOCIABLE!~ I don't drink an awful lot of spirits, particularly at home, but if the need should ever arise (!) this is my short of choice. I had it given to me as a present originally but I have replenished at my own expense since, and here's the reasons why... Not being a great drinker of spirits, I would still join in at the end of the night and grimace my way through either a brandy, or more likely a vodka and lemonade. A pretty pointless exercise really ... if I went for the brandy it took my breath away, making it almost a chore, and if I went for a vodka & lemonade it was really a waste of vodka because it would be mixed with so much lemonade the taste was lost. ~WHAT'S IT LIKE?~ When I was given the bottle, my friend said "try it neat, it's lovely!" I knew for a fact I couldn't normally face a neat vodka but I adopted my mantra "how bad can it be?!" and gave this a go... I poured a single measure and popped two ice cubes in. It was really delicious. The time I tried it was a summers evening (remember them?) and it was just so refreshing. I sipped it really slowly, so the ice did melt into the vodka so in effect as the drink went on it did get thinned down but from that moment on, this became my drink of choice. I expected the lime flavour to be either overpowered by the vodka or if it was going to be detectable, it would probably be too bitter for me. Neither is the case. The flavour is absolutely brilliantly balanced. You still get the sharp freshness 'rush' sensation of the vodka spirit, but the lime flavour takes all the harshness away and gives the drink a real smoothness. If "clean" was a flavour, this would be it! I occasionally have it mixed with some lemonade, but much, much less lemonade than I would be used to in my previous vodka exploits. I don't want to lose the lime flavour. To put a quantity on that - I use tall glasses which are approx 5cm diameter. I like one measure in there with just about up to 4cm up the glass with lemonade, plus some ice - that way, you still get a decent lime hit. Absolutely perfect summers evening drink. I wonder if I'll get the chance to put it to the test this year...! I'm reliably informed it also goes great with coke (something I don't like) and tonic (ditto), so it's a versatile option too. ~THE PRODUCT~ The bottle looks classy with it's familiar Smirnoff shape and style of labelling but the lime colour scheme. The liquid itself is as pure and clear as normal vodka. The image on dooyoo appears like a frosted glass bottle - (may be my screen!) - but it's certainly a clear bottle now. It really made a great gift ...if you have friends who like vodka, it's something just a little bit different, and mine came in a box too which can still be found if you shop around, I believe. It retails around £15 when not on offer for a 70cl bottle. Alcohol content is 37.5%, the same as "normal" vodka. ~ONE LAST THING~ Enjoy responsibly! (Emphsis on the enjoy!)
When poured into the glass this looks like any other vodka, a clear liquid and there is no hint that it contains any lime extract in it at all. The advantage with this pre flavoured vodka is you do not need to buy limes and go through the hassle of mashing them up for the juice neither do you need to make sure you have some lime cordial in the house as well, not really significant benefits I know but they are there none the same. Rather than the traditional red colouring of the label and bottle top the Smirnoff lime viodka has a distinctive lime green screw top and label so it is easy to spot it on the supermarket shelves. Just so you cannot make any mistake there is also a picture of a lime on the label as well. While the vodka may look no difference in the glass you certainly do notice the difference in smell as there is a distinctive smell of limes when this is poured, this combines well with the alcoholic vodka smell that is rather sharp, you can also taste the lime in the vodka it you drink it neat or over ice as I tend to. The lime flavour is strong enough to still be felt even with a splash of tonic water added however obviously the fklavour does gete a little diluted, however I have also discovered limke flavoured tonic water which I use when making mojito's and when you add this to lime vodka it really does give it a sharp kick. This is a lovely smooth vodka with a nice consistent taste. It is prioced the same as normal Smirnoff and is often on special offer along with other spirits. Nice and zesty in taste it will also work well in cocktails that you might want to mix.
I'm not the biggest drinker on the planet although I do like a nice glass of wine with a meal and when I go out I will happily have a few drinks but I'm very rarely drunk (cannot remember the last time to be honest) as I know my own limits and I can have a good time without it being alcohol fuelled. Saying that I do have a few favourite drinks which I like to enjoy other than a nice wine one of which is vodka. Yes, a spirit that doesn't appeal to everyone's palate but for me it can provide a good drink. My current drink of choice when out with friends or even at home with friends I really quite enjoy Smirnoff Lime Vodka. I have drunk Smirnoff Vodka for years and always have a bottle in my cupboard at home but the lime version was introduced to me a few years ago by a friend and I have been hooked ever since. Smirnoff is quite a well known vodka brand and they do sell quite a variety of different type vodkas as well as pre-made drinks which come in cans. Easily accessible it is an easy choice to buy. ======= What is it? ======= Vodka has been around for centuries and has been the tipple of choice for many countries in Europe. It is made by the distillation of fermented products such as grains and potatoes as well as fruits and sugar. Smirnoff Vodka itself is distilled from grains and is an incredibly pure vodka being put through three distillations for purity as well as ten filtrations for smoothness. Smirnoff Lime Vodka is no different it goes through the same distillation and filtration process as any other vodka product they make. It has been created with natural lime flavours to give it a zingy yet refreshing taste. Basically it is the original Smirnoff Vodka with lime added to it. According to Smirnoff: "Flavoured vodkas continue to fuel the growth of the vodka category and Smirnoff leads the pack," says Mark Breene, Vice President at Smirnoff. "Smirnoff Lime Flavoured is a natural extension to our flavour line as lime has long been a staple flavour in the creation of cocktails." ======= Packaging ======= Smirnoff Lime Vodka comes in the exact same shaped bottle as the original version. A tall, slender clear glass bottle with a green metal screw on top. The front label features the Smirnoff logo together with the product name as well as an image of a wedge of lime. On the back there is information about the product together with ingredients as well as the usual warnings one would expect from an alcoholic drink (i.e. no under 18s, don't mix your drinks etc). And of course the front of the bottle also features the alcoholic percentage. ======= The Vodka ======= Smirnoff Lime Vodka is completely clear in colour and has the same consistency as water as one would expect. The notable difference in aroma to this is that it has quite a distinctive lime hue to it. Yes, of course you get that unmistakeable vodka smell but it is softened slightly by the lime which is actually quite nice and almost quite a refreshing aroma. To drink you can of course drink it neat which is something I don't do but I have tried it and the flavour is although strong it is rounded off nicely by the very noticeable lime flavour. I prefer to drink the Smirnoff Lime Vodka as a tall drink with coca cola and ice and of course a wedge of lime for added zing. I find it is perfectly drinkable and is a lovely and refreshing drink. Vodka is not for everyone as it does have quite a distinctive taste which of course varies depending on the brand you buy but I find this perfectly drinkable. The lime flavour is very noticeable but is fresh and zingy and not a synthetic bitter flavour. It is however an easy spirit to drink as the flavour is definitely smooth with a fruity finish and for me it really adds quite a nice touch to a vodka. ===== Overall ===== I really like this product as I find it as a great alternative to a standard vodka which can be a little overpowering but the lime manages to make it more palatable with a fresh finish with a bit of zesty zing without being too strong but definitely noticeable. This is a product always in stock at my home now and will regularly buy if it is on offer. It makes a nice change to a standard vodka and I find it a lot more palatable so for me I would recommend easily. Giving it 5 stars. ============= Useful Information ============= Brand: Smirnoff Price: From around £15.50 depending on where you buy Availability: Supermarkets, off licences Volume: 70cl Alcohol Content: 37.50%
Smirnoff Vodka is world famous brand of Vodka and by far my favourite. Some people say that they can't taste the difference between Vodka brands but I reckon I can and Smirnoff is my favourite with, for me, a slightly less punjant and perhaps milder flavour than other brands. Last year I was in my local Scotmid when I cam across the Lime Vodka and thought it would be a nice change, I was not to be disappointed. I drank the Lime Vodka with Diet Coke and Ice and found it a really refreshing alternative to standard Vodka. It tastes quite strongly of lime and has a sharp, citrus flavour that is not however overpowering. I had 3 drinks and enjoyed them immensely but don't think I could have has anymore. For me this drink is something to have in small amounts as I think it would become slightly sickly despite being citrus after more than a few. The vodka comes in a bottle exactly the same as standard Smirnoff Vodka but sports a lime coloured label instead of the traditional red. The bottle is 70cl and the alcohol content is 37.5%, that of standard Vodka. I paid £18 for my bottle and have seen it similarly priced in places such as Tesco and Asda. Overall I found this a really nice product which was very pleasant to drink and far more pleasant than any other flavoured Vodka I have tasted before. I also think it makes a nice gift.
When you're out drinking, Vodka will always pop up at some point during the night, with people around you (and maybe even yourself) indulging in a glass with coke, lemonade, energy drink, or as part of a more complex cock-tale. The drink is Universal, a substance enjoyed by millions of people - and all this whilst tasting the way it does - disgusting. Try Vodka on its own, and contrary to the 'it doesn't taste of anything' ideology, you'll be hit by an impeccable storm of bitter, burning, grotesqueness after every sip. It HAS to be mixed to be enjoyed in my opinion. But when Smirnoff, one of the leading brands, started producing this Lime flavored variety, I had to give it a go just to see how much of the lovely fragrance and taste of lime it actually puts across. Neat - 'Urrrghh'. Mixed - 'Mmmmm'. That just about sums up the experience. Much as with original Smirnoff Vodka, the taste is unbearable neat, and quite pleasant when mixed with coke or any other fizzy drink. When drinking the Lime variety neat you don't sense much lime at all - barely even the slightest hint - and the liquid slips down uncomfortably with that bitter, spikey taste evident in all vodka. With coke however, the Lime shines through, quailing the bitterness and emphasizing the sweet and sugary parts of the mixer. I like the drink when mixed, one of the dangers of it however, is its ability to get you drunk quicker because of the taste, you drink more without realizing it. You can be slipping more into your glass - a higher ratio of vodka to mixer - and not tell the difference. I suppose that kind of issue rests with the consumer. The vodka is 37.5% - highly potent - and it comes in standard sized bottles: 35 cl all the way up to 1 and 2 litre varieties. Cost wise, Smirnoff has always been a mid-top end brand of spirit at about £18-22 a litre. Often you'll be able to find it on offer in bigger stores which helps cut the price down to size. Smirnoff Lime is usually found at the same price, or only a few pence more expensive, than the original variety - which is nice for people wanting to try something new without suffering cash-wise. I think that overall Smirnoff have failed to make vodka taste nice neat, but have succeeded in improving the taste when mixed. Lime is a good flavor to collaborate with because it is in its own right, strong. The lime shines through when the stuff is mixed, and it tastes nice mixed with most fizzy drinks, juices, and energy drink. Energy drinks enhance the potency by hyping up the consumer as well as intoxicating them to a high level. Drink responsibly. RATING: 2.9/5 PRICE: £16.50 (70 cl) AVAILABILITY: Tesco.com
I used to reach for the Vodka as my 1st choice for a spirit and mixer but I went off Vodka for a while. Although I am still a fan of Bacardi, Southern Comfort and premixed cans but over the last year I've started to have Vodka again and I do like it again. I spotted this on the shelves in my local Asda the other month and the 70cl bottle was selling for £13 which was the same price as the normal Vodka. Being Lime flavour I thought it would be easy to drink with Diet Coke which is my usual mixer but I guess this would have went with Lemonade as well. When I opened the bottle I could smell the usual Vodka scent but the Lime scent stood out as well. It smells a nice zesty tang and I would liken this to a Lime cordial smell but a more delicate scent. I had a little sip of this neat and it tasted ok. When it was mixed it tasted nice and was just a fresh twist on Vodka. I would buy this again for a bit of a change. This is the normal strength of Vodka - 37%. Per standard shot measurement this has 50 calories so can be enjoyed as part of a calorie controlled diet. A nice twist on the standard Vodka.
this is a very tasty vodka mix, i have to admit it doesnt mix as nicely with ordinary coke but is absolutely gorgeous with diet coke. A quite suttle kick of lime compared to other products like this but its just enough to leave that taste of tangy lime for a few seconds of a bliss aftertaste.
