Absolut Pears is part of the Absolut fruit based vodkas and was first introduced in 2007. The vodka comes in an opaque glass bottle with a pull off silver and plastic/cork stopper that is easy to use and does not leak. A 70cl bottle is 40% abv and is currently retailing on Amazon for £16.09 (February 2013. The bottle is decorated with black and green writing describing the product and the country of origin; Sweden.
The vodka itself is clear in colour and the consistency of water. On opening the bottle you will be greeted with strong pear scents and although strong the smell is not overly alcoholic or off putting. Absolut Pear is made from water and winter wheat and has no added sugar, pear is the main ingredient in terms of fruit, though other flavours are used to enhance the pear taste.
I tend to drink it served over ice, you will taste smooth vodka with a heavy hit of pear that has a nice sweetness to it and it does not taste unnatural, it finishes with a hint of sweetness, goes down well and is not like drinking pear drops! I also sometimes drink it with diet lemonade, as a long drink and I find this very refreshing, especially in the summer. You can also use the vodka in a variety of cocktails, though I have not really tried this yet, though it does taste good topped up with some ginger beer and a lime wedge squeezed into it. I have tried many of the Absolut fruit vodkas and although I like this, it is not my favourite, I prefer the citrus based ones really. It's a nice drink for a change and is definitely reminiscent of summer drinking.
Overall I would recommend this drink to those that firstly like vodka and also those that enjoy fruit flavoured drinks, it is a smooth, well balanced vodka, that is versatile, in that it can be drunk on its own, mixed to make a long drink or used in cocktails. It is also well priced. Happy drinking!
WHAT IS IT?
Pear flavoured vodka by Absolut.
This vodka has got a delicate flavour that is very much like pears. It is juicy and sweet tasting just like ripe pears. The vodka is smooth and quite rich but the pear does not do very much to make the vodka soft so drinking it without anything mixed in is not very good but it is hard to find something to mix with it that will not spoil the pear taste.
WHAT I THINK
I have drunk this vodka a few times because my husband was gifted three bottles from a work colleague and he does not drink very many spirits so he gave them to me. It is sweet because of the natural sugar in pears but doesn't taste sugary or sickly. The pear flavour is strong and delicate at the same time and very natural.
I think this drink is a lot better when it is used in a cocktail than as a drink on its own because it is too strong for me to drink without having a mixer drink. It is nice in a vodka martini with lemonade and fresh pear puree or you can try putting it into any cocktail that would usually use plain vodka for a completely different flavour.
This vodka contain 40% alcohol so it is a strong drink that you shouldn't have too much of. I cannot drink more than two glasses of it at a time because it is so sweet and plainly pear flavoured that I get bored of the drink quickly, I like flavoured spirits but prefer the ones that have a mix of flavours instead of just the one strong lone flavour like this pear vodka.
3 Dooyoo Stars.
Everyone has heard of Absolut vodka, and has probably tried at least one of the flavours, even if it's just the unflavoured vodka. Absolut is a Swedish vodka, and is produced near Åhus, in the province of Skåne, in southern Sweden. Which funnily enough is the province in which we used to live.
Absolut do many different varietes; Absolut Blue - the regular unflavoured vodka - a 40% 80 proof vodka, Absolut Peppar - roasted jalapeno, green tomato and dried herbs flavour, Absolut Citron - lemon flavour, Absolut Kurant - blackcurrant flavour, Absolut Mandrin - orange and mandarin flavour mix, Absolut Vanilia - vanilla flavour, Absolut Raspberri - raspberry flavour, Absolut Apeach - peach flavour, Absolut Ruby Red - grapefruit flavour, Absolut Pears - pear flavour, Absolut Mango - mango flavour, Absolut Berri Acai - a blend of acai, blueberry and pomegranate, Absolut Wild Tea - black tea and elderflower flavour, and Absolut 100 - a 50% 100 proof vodka.
I've tried many different flavoured vodka brands, and the Absolut range are definately my favourite, I've actually tried all of the Absoult flavours. I guess that makes me sound like a bit of a lush! Absolut have a wide range of flavours, and all of them bar one (the Absolut Peppar) are delicious. The Absolut Pears flavour is definately one of my favourites, and one that I have to thank my husband for making us try. I would never have bought this as I have to admit that I don't actually like pears (as in the fruit), but I did discover that I really like Absolut Pears! I would therefore say that even if you don't like pears then you may very well still like this.
Absolut Pears was launched back in 2007, and is apparently a very popular flavour. It is certainly delicious. The Absolut range is made exclusively from natural ingredients, and unlike most other flavoured vodka ranges, the Absolut flavoured range doesn't contain any added sugar, therfore they are not too sweet, you just get the true taste of the relevant flavour.
Absolut Pears is a very fresh and fruity tasting vodka. It has a very distinct fruity flavour and aroma, I personally would say that it reminds me more of apples than of pears. The taste is not too strong, it's quite a delicate, mellow taste, and it has a pleasant fruity lingering aftertaste. You can definately smell the aroma of mellow pears (apples!?!) the instant you open the bottle, and this lingers on in your glass. It doesn't have a sweet or synthetic taste at all, and it's not sickly at all.
This is the perfect vodka to drink either straight, on the rocks or with a mixer of your choice. It's a really easy drinking vodka due to the really pleasant taste. I think that it's absolutely delicious with Sprite, the Sprite doesn't overwhelm the taste of the vodka at all, you still get that lovely fruity taste coming throiugh. I also like this with ginger beer or with tonic water. I especially like to use Absolut Pears in cocktails, it gives an interesting new twist to traditional cocktails, or enables you to invent your own new flavoured cocktails.
As someone who loves pears (see my review of the Kopparberg pear cider) and who loves vodka (see my review of the Belvedere vodka), I had to try this, especially as it's currently on offer at Asda.
I thought, wrongly, that because Absolut is a fairly cheap vodka (when compared with the premium ranges I normally drink), that it would be like other brands in the same price range and would strip the roof off my mouth but I can happily report this did not happen.
The vodka itself is surprisingly clean in terms of flavour, and is of a good quality. The pear flavour is less candy-like than the Kopparberg pear cider, but it is still slightly sweet (not too sweet though) and definitely tastes of pears. It tastes like tinned pears, but less strong and artificial. Honestly, it's really nice, nicer than I am probably making it sound here!!
Pear flavor launched in January 2007. Absolut Vodka.
