      Good for when you're travelling

I received this speaker for a present last Christmas, as my old one had sadly broken down, and here is what I think of it: - First of all, the design. It is a rather chunky speaker (probably chunkier than it needs to be) and though the design is called "retro" I find that it is rather tacky, with its textured plastic exterior, plastic dials and "MyAmp" written on the speaker panel. - The speaker comes with many different cables so you can attach it to virtually anything; your computer to you iPod etc. which of course is very convenient. There are three dials- BASS, TREBLE and VOLUME as well as a POWER switch (the light next to it lights up when turned on) so you can vary the volume according to taste. It can, however, be turned up to quite a high volume. - I have to complain about the battery life- this speaker takes 3 AA batteries in a compartment that you need a screwdriver to open, and I was disappointed when one set of batteries lasted not more than a month! And this was not due to excessive use either. Also, most of the times I had been using it, it had been attached to the computer, and most computer speakers do not require batteries as it is! As the batteries deteriorated, the sound quality quickly decreased, with it sounding grainy and disfigured. I have to keep changing the batteries in this speaker which is quite a hassle for me as I can never find the screw driver, and what with the battery prices slowly but surely rising, this is not what I would call a financial investment... All in all, this speaker is not spectacular but performs to it purpose... more importantly it is fairly portable (light for its size) so you can play your music and audio on the move

        Looks good, Sounds Gash

I bought this after *breaking* my stereo and i must say i was quite pleased and disappointed at the same time. It first seemed a very small amp in a very large box, but hearing it was a delight and reached a very good volume... Until it played one of my favourites... Knowing the song so well, i realised that this speaker was not as good as i had hoped, because it acted as one speaker that needed to be accompanied by another. What i mean is that it missed parts of the song, as if it should be playing through another speaker, like when you listen to music through one earphone. I suppose it is good value, paying about £20 for a speaker... but that IS what you're doing, buying ONE speaker with effectively one dial as volume, the rest making minimal positive difference. Now i just play music through my mac or Line 6 Spifer guitar amp (because i foolishly ignored the fact it could play music via the correct cable). So if you don't mind only hearing certain parts of a song then this is a very good priced speaker for your mp3/laptop and also small gatherings of friends ... just don't expect it to be the best quality.

Great for your ipod or to boost sound on your laptop

OK so I'm a sucker for gadgets, quite often i get them just because they look good and i will quite often not use them for the reason they were built. They are my Achilles heel! So when i saw this product in a magazine, i saw it as the holy grail of novelty gadgets. So i sent the gf out with a heavy hint for a Christmas present and low and behold, come the big day she had managed to get it for me. VOLUME They say good things come in small packages. This is very apt for this product. It has bass and treble knobs which you can tune to your own liking. But the volume goes from 1-11. So far i have not had it beyond 3 and already had complaints from the person next to me of noise!! 'nuff said!! QUALITY It seems very well built. I have used it pretty much every day since Christmas and the quality has not dropped at all. It still seems box fresh. The sound quality is immense. For something of its size I expected it to sound tinny like and old car stereo, but the fact is, its quality is that of its bigger brothers!!!! WEIGHT Very Very Very Very light and compact, can easily fit in a bag and be taken anywhere with you. USABILITY Once I'd torn off the wrapping i just wanted to get it working. There are two options, either power the system by battery or alternatively a usb connection. This is very handy when connecting to your laptop or computer like i have. And best of all, its retro look makes it the ultimate accessory for your desk.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        average, yet cheap!

I found this amp in a local fashion shop and picked it up for £5 on a sale, yet, despite this, its sound quality has much to be desired, and often sounds muffled, which gets worse as you juice the volume up! It has an annoying feedback noise should your phone decide to go off, and its dials seem to only go about half way round without being stiff, and being extremely sensitive at times, despite this it makes a handy little desktop speaker, which requires no installation or software, it looks cool, and due to its AUX jack you can simply plug it in to your mp3, iPod, or phone if they have the necessary female AUX port. It also takes AA batteries if you don't have a computer handy, and lasts up to four hours! You can therefore carry this handy little gadget around, and has came camping with me without a computer many times!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Has great potential, unfortunately mine won't work properly

Intro I got this as a Christmas present last year, I saw it in the gadget shop Red5 and it was around ten pound. I used the one in store to see how good the sound qulity was when I hooked my Ipod up to it. I was pleased with the quality and it was a novelty to be able to mess with the bass and highs. However after unwrapping my own amp and attempting to use it, the musci came out crackly and quite honestly it was ear-wenching. I came to the conclusion that it was the cable that hooked the amp and Ipod together that was creating the devastating sound I was having to endure. Sadly, I still haven't fixed the problem. But sometimes it works fine! It's really tempramental I guess. I wouldn't recommend it nevertheless. Hooking Up You can hook the amp up to any Ipod, and probably all MP3's, by connecting the audio in on the amp to the audio out/headphone port on your Ipod using the audio cable included (1.5m). Pretty simple? Not for me; I have to find a position for the Ipod to be in that doesn't create a crackly sound and it take a while, and sometimes the sound dies completely! It's fair to say I need a new speaker. You can save money on batteries by using the USB cable (included) and connecting the amp to a computer. Howeverr this limits portability as the cable isn't that long, 1m to be precise. Practicality Yeah the amp's a great size to carry around in a bag, playing music out loud on a sunny day with your mates, but the size doesn't matter if you can't get the stupid thing to work consistently! I predict you'd be spending more time opening the bag, moving the speaker and Ipod until a good quality sound comes out, then closing the bag again, than actually listening to the music. Options By options I mean capabilities, features, what it can do... And all this can do is play music (badly) and let you chnage the bass and highs (inaccurately), until you realise that there's no point using the bass and high knobs because they don't work very well. Power This can be un on computer battery by connecting via USB, or run on batteries, 3 x AAA. I've not had to change batteries since Christmas 2009! (Then again I haven't used it much, probably racked up about 10 hours usage in total) Technical Info - 3 Watt Amp - 13 x 9.5 x 8.5 cm - Weight: 299 g - 200 Hz to 20KHz frequency - Connects through a 3.5mm standard headphone jack
