---Why I Had This--- I am not one for buying any sort of biscuits for myself really, especially expensive ones! However it was my Birthday last week and my sister brought up a selection of goodies, one of which was this box of Thorton's cookies. ---The Brand--- Thorntons has been making chocolates for over a hundred years. In fact, the very first shop was opened in Sheffield by travelling confectioner Joseph William Thornton in October 1911. (Thorntons website) ---The Product--- 175 grams Comes in an oblong box which is coloured in shades of orange and with a brown image background of dark chocolate biscuits on a plate. Ginger and dark chocolate cookies - baked with peices of stem ginger, cinammon and nutmeg and fully coated in rich dark chocolate. Alcohol free recipe. Suitable for vegetarians. Allergy Information * Contains: Gluten, Milk, Soya\Soybeans * May contain: Eggs, Nuts, Sesame Seeds. Inside the box the biscuits come wrapped in clear cellophane and resting on a black plastic tray on their sides. ---Cost--- 1.99 for 175 grams at Tesco. ---My Opinion--- These are lovely chocolate biscuits - fully covered. The top surface is rippled. The biscuits are large - about 2.25 x 2 inches. I think the box contained 10 biscuits which is not a lot but these are meant to be savored and enjoyed quietly - and not wolfed down a packet at a time. The biscuits are quite spicy and the ginger does not taste like an ordinary ginger nut would taste, but more of a ginger cake flavour. The biscuits contain cinnamon and nutmeg - now I do not normally like these spices much but in this biscuit they were not too noticable and they flavoured the cookies well. I would eat them one at them with a cup of tea - so they did last a while. The biscuits are quite hard to bite into (I have to watch my crowns!) - but you can feel the spices on your tongue and they have a good coating of chocolate. A very good quality item that is a cut above your normal biscuits. Too expensive to be an everyday biscuit but great as a treat for yourself or for special visitors. ---Star Rating--- 5 stars. ---Would I Recommend?--- Yes. ---Websites--- http://www.thorntons.co.uk/ ---Ingredients--- Plain Chocolate (40%) [Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin)], Wheat Flour, Stem Ginger (11%) [Ginger, Sugar], Sugar, Butter [contains added Salt], Oats, Invert Sugar Syrup, Ginger Powder, Raising Agents [Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, Disodium Diphosphate (Disodium Diphosphate, Wheat Flour, Salt)], Ground Cinnamon, Ground Nutmeg, Flavouring.
