      Go for the original size

This gigantic version of the Caramel Swirl in the Nestle Quality selection proves that good things often come in smaller packages, as this big version of the caramel swirl isn`t half as good as the original sized one, in fact, I found it be way too sweet and rather intense, at the end, it ended up somewhat sickening! I really do enjoy the Quality Street Selection of chocolates, they are a standard indulgance come every Christmas, so when I stumbled upon this funny and original giant chocolate, I had to give it a try, seeing as it only costed five p, it wasn`t really something I had to think a lot about... The caramel swirl is a chocolate filled with creamy and smooth caramel, with a sweet and lovely taste, however, I found the caramel in this version to be sweeter than the original, and I didn`t really go crazy for the chocolate either... So unless you`re a big fan of the Caramel Swirl and you are absolutely convinced that you will love this giant version, I struggle to recommend it at all! Too sweet, too big!

      Other brands do it better

At Christmas I usually get a lot of chocolate bought for the family and me. We usually have tins of this, that and the other floating around everywhere. This year we got a lot of quality streets and after eating a tin or ten of them I realised I had a select few that I always went for first. My chocolate of choice was always the caramel swirl. Strolling into the garage one day and seeing they had big versions of it, my eyes swelled massively. It was 3 big Caramel Swirls for £1 so I bought a few. From outward appearances everything looks the same, it is the same foiled covered chocolate only bigger. You remove the foil to be met with a pretty weighty chocolate with that definitive but not overly chocolaty smell that comes with nestle chocolate. I like to put my chocolate in the fridge so when I eat mine the chocolate is hard and the caramel not set but slightly firm. When its not refrigerated I find the caramel slightly runny so when you take a bite it spills over the chocolate and goes everywhere if you aren't careful. Based on the chocolate being refrigerated I find it to be nice and thick, maybe too thick and it tastes slightly bitter to me. When the chocolate is small in the tins you don't notice the chocolate taste as much but in bigger portions it has a slightly bitter taste accompanied with a slightly grainy texture and isn't as nice as Cadburys. The caramel is slightly bland for me as well. It never manages to get that good consistency you see else where, it's too runny at room temperature but too firm when refrigerated. I find myself wanting a mix between the two. If I was going to buy some chocolate covered caramel then I would look to other well known brands first as bigger doesn't mean better in this instance. I have a bit of a sweet tooth and prefer my chocolate a bit more on the sweet and milky side.

Quality Street Caramel Swirl - The big one!

Out of all the Quality Street chocolates that you get in a box or tin the caramel swirl is my joint favourite with the green triangle, so when I discovered that you could buy a larger version of the sweet-tin option on its own I had to give it a try. I have seen and eaten the large green triangles before and bought my wife the purple nutty one but never the caramel one so couldn't wait to open it. Wrapped in the golden foil as shown above the chocolate is impressively big and quite heavy. Easily 2-3 inches in diameter and about half an inch to an inch at its tallest thick, this looks a substantial treat. Costing around about 50p it is certainly comparable price wise to a bar of chocolate but is worth the money? Easy to unwrap you are met with very thick chocolate that takes some biting into. Those with weak teeth be aware that even at room temperature the chocolate shell is hard and robust. Once managing to break through the delicious creamy outer chocolate you meet the sweet tasting caramel contained within. Surprisingly thick and nowhere near as runny as a Cadburys caramel, this is more "treacly" in texture and you find that it leaves a sugary trail down your chin if you don't manage to bite it off successfully. Deliciously sweet though and together with the chocolate this really does fill your mouth with flavour. After the initial bite you can probably get two more smaller nibbles from the chocolate before it is gone, the chocolate is thicker on the base and if you're like me I tend to nibble the top, scoop out the caramel and then munch through the thick base - messy but delicious and similar to Cadburys cream eggs - How do you eat yours? I haven't got the wrapper anymore to able to report the nutritional information and a quick search online doesn't reveal any results either. Chocolate and Caramel aren't going to be low in calories or fat though as you know so don't expect this to provide anything other than a (un)healthy amount of both. Still, for a treat though it is deliciously moreish and well worth enjoying on an occasional basis. Definitely worth the 50p price tag, normally found this time of the year in readiness for Christmas and sometimes on offer when bought in a multi-buy. 4/5 Dooyoo stars for me, losing one for how messy they can actually be, be careful of sticky fingers and escaping caramel when eating one of these!

Not As Good As I Thought It Would Be

The garage by me is selling these extra large Caramel Swirls 2 for 50p at the minute so I thought I'd buy 2 to try yesterday. I think they're a special Xmas edition and are massive versions of the Caramel Swirls you get in boxes of Quality Street. The chocolate is wrapped in foil and is milk chocolate with loads of caramel inside. I wasn't that mad keen on it because the chocolate isn't very good quality and I thought the caramel was much too sweet and that made the Caramel Swirl very sickly. I got into a right mess eating it as well because when you bite through the chocolate it sort of collapses in on itself so that my hands got covered in caramel. I think the caramel is a bit too sticky as well, I know caramel is full of sugar so is going to be sticky but in this chocolate it's so thin that it's nearly like liquid. I know this will appeal to a lot of people but I like my caramel a bit more solid like in a Cadburys Caramel bar. The chocolate isn't that good but I didn't expect it to be because I'm not mad for Nestle chocolate anyway. It comes across as proper poor quality chocolate in this though because there's so much of it on the Caramel Swirl but I don't usually notice this with the normal sized Quality Street. The Caramel Swirl is MEGA sweet, so sweet that it gave me a bit of a toothache after I'd finished it. They do some of the other Quality Street chocolates in these bigger versions but I don't think I'll bother getting another one, well I probably will but if so it will be those green triangles because I love them in the boxes of chocolates and reckon a big one would be yummy.
