Had a Pack of rowan hill backery ctumpets from lidl. The morning after purchasing I toasted 2 crumpets i ate the first thinking this dont taste right i am pregnant so thought it might of been my taste buds. I went on to my second crumpet to find it was just as horrid so i had a look and to my horrific surprise it was full of mold. I then went to check the rest in the pack to also find them all having mold on them. I Checked the date on the pack and it said best before 20/4/2012 so was still in the use by Date. If you wanted my advise i would stay well clear of rowan hill bakery crumpets.
I purchased a pack of 8 Rowan Hill Bakery Crumpets at Lidl for 49p. The crumpets are packaged in a cardboard sleeve wrapped in plastic. According to the labelling, they are to be stored in a cool dry place. They are suitable for freezing for one month. Crumpets generally have a short shelf life, these particular ones had 3 days left before the best before date. Crumpets are versatile and easy to prepare. I simply toast my crumpets for a couple of minutes, or they can be grilled until golden brown. Each crumpet weighs 46g on average and contains 86 calories and 0.3g of fat and 1.0g of salt. These flat disc shaped mixtures of basically wheat, yeast and water are around 1 cm in thickness with loads of holes in them, like a mouse as been at them. I found that these crumpets taste just as good as other supermarket brands and other branded crumpets I have tried. These are at a very good price, 8 for 49p. However, they are only good value if you are going to eat them all, all 8 within the best before date as they do tend to go hard and stale quite quickly. On the whole, I enjoyed these crumpets and served them with butter and poached eggs for a low fat, low calories filling breakfast. I would buy them again.
