I got this phone as a free upgrade and it was the first touch screen-only phone I had got. I did have quite high expectations of it because I had read a lot of positive reviews about the phone, and about Samsung mobile phones in general.
At first the phone worked fine, but after a few days it stopped working and wouldn't pick up a signal. I was sent a replacement and had no problems with this, and accept that I had just had a faulty unit.
The phone itself was very good. The size of the screen made it good to watch TV shows/films online and the camera was also good. The large amounts of available apps meant that you can choose what games etc you want, although a memory card.is required because the phone memory is filled very quickly.
I had the blue version of this phone, which made a nice change from the black ones available, or the ones with no choice because it makez it feel more personalised.
I have no complaints about how the phone worked and was reluctant to change it for another one, but it was just not practical to use. The phone is bigger than many others and I found it very uncomfortable to use. It did not sit in my hand comfortably and I always needes two hands to use it. When making a phone call I always felt like I was about to drop it and I ended up deciding to get a different one instead.
Had the mini version been available I would have happily got one of those instead, and now have an S4 Mini. I do really like Samsung products, but unfortunately this phone was just not practical for me.
This isn't the first smart phone that I've had, but it might as well be! A league apart from my previous phones (HTC desire C and Samsung Galaxy Ace), and it almost feels more like a mini tablet. I have had it for about a month, and I have managed to totally get my head around it, despite it being substantially more complicated than my previous phones. It was a little confusing at first, with multiple 'home pages' with a variety of different apps. It was a easy to feel a little lost. But the scope for personalisation is great, so you can very easily arrange your apps in a way that is most helpful for you.
The Samsung scroll down panel is very useful and easy to use (especially to judge if you want to read a Facebook message without having 'seen' it!), with notifications from a number of different apps appearing. One of the very minor annoyances is that you appear not to be able to remove some of these notifications. This is a very minor issue though.
There is light notification feature, in which a small light appears when you have a notification, and the colour changes depending on what the notification is (eg green is Facebook message, blue is text message, red is charging). This is useful, as you can immediately see if you have a notification without actively checking your phone.
The camera is excellent, actually much better than my digital camera and a million times more convenient. It is easy to download photo editing apps to tweak your photos.
With a screen size of 4.8 inches, it is physically much bigger than phones I am used to. Occasionally I have issues using it single handed (I have pretty small hands), but most of the time the screen size is a massive plus point. I've even installed the kindle app, and can read e-books on the go!! Very handy. Despite the size, it is very streamlined and much lighter than I-phones of comparable (and smaller) sizes, partly down to the brushed polycarbonate backing. While I have heard people say this feels cheap, I totally disagree - clearly a lot of time and money has gone in to designing it.
Finally, it is such good value for money, I only pay £14 a month for mine (free handset), with 1gb data, 100 minutes and unlimited texts. Cheaper than my old phone contracts, and literally everything about it is better!
I have had the Samsung Galaxy S3 for about a year and a half, and generally, it is a great phone to use for all kind of things.
My favourite thing about this phone is how amazing the camera is. I have actually stopped using my Nikon digital camera now, as most of the time the pics from my phone are actually better! Photos take quickly, and it is quick to access the Gallery on the bottom left of the screen. There are also some filters available if you enjoy using them, but I must admit, I don't think I have ever used these.
Another thing that I love about this phone is how nice and light it is. I was really surprised when I first got it at how light it is, and it does fit really nicely in your hand. However, it is possibly a little too big to put in your jeans pocket for example, but this is due to the large screen, so I'd say it's worth it really!
I have had no problems with the phone until recently when it started crashing when I was using Mobile Data. The phone would heat up and switch itself off, often deleting data from the home screen, contacts and messages! However, still being under warranty, this has been sent off for repair and has been ok so far - hopefully the problem will be sorted.
I also love how many apps are available through the android app store. Finally, this device has the "S Beam" function, where you can transfer files from one phone to another by just placing two phones with the same capability together. This is SO handy for when transferring files between our phones - especially all of the aforementioned photos!
Overall, a great, nifty little phone that looks and feels good to use. It's easy to use, even for those that are relatively new to smart phones, and the big screen makes the display really easy to read. Really pleased with mine, I just hope the repair has fixed whatever the fault was! :)
i bought this phone from a friend after he had uprgraded his phone. i was very happy with it due to numerous things such as the design and features it has. the phone has a slick design, in which it''s not too light or too heavy. this phone is heavy enough to keep in your pocket so that you know it''s their, without having to worry about whether it''s fallen out or not, but not too heavy where you feel like you''re carrying a land line handset. a useful feature on this phone is the front facing camera, useful for Skype calls and taking pictures of yourself without having to turn the phone around after taking the picture to see if you''ve taken a decent shot. The phone has 16 GB internal memory which is enough to store you''re songs, pictures, videos and the apps you find useful. Play store is featured on this phone and has various apps from social networking apps to games and educational apps. in the phone widget, you''re able to store contacts, as well as having the people that you contact frequently in your ''favourites'' button. the phone has a 8 megapixel camera which is good for taking photos at distance as well as having the ability to zoom in and out whilst watching a video. The phone has fm radio in which you can tune into your favourite fm stations. other features on this phone include google play music, google play books, google play newsstand, wifi, GPS, bluetooth, power saving, multi window, screen mirroring, s-beam, NFC, Hands free mode, smart stay, sync & flight mode.
I purchased this phone upon reading good reviews about it, if youre looking for a phone that is unique and different than an iphone as most people have iphones nowadays then this is the phone for you its efficient and quick has a good bsckground lighting and handy features such as a very bright flashlight and multitasking options. The phone itself when first purchased felt very awkward but after a few days you get used to the feeling, the keyboard on the phone is also very easy as im typibg from it right now, and also there are many more features that are easy to use, the pull down toolbar at the top of this phone lets you activate/deactivate the options suh as wifi internet and the vibrate or sound function which is very handy as you dont have to go into the settings option to change these things, all in all its a top class phonewith a mere problem of slightly bad battery life but a lot better than the iphone in my opinion.
I was happy with my old button phone as I only used it to phone and send text messages but when the opportunity came for me to get my husband?s old phone when his contract was renewed I jumped at the chance to get my first smart phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is my first smart phone and I wouldn?t go back to having just a mobile to make calls and text with anymore as I use my S3 for so much more now.
I especially love the big screen. It measures 4.8 inches and originally I thought it would be too big for me to use comfortably as I don?t have the biggest hands but after a few days of use I had mastered just where to hold the phone to still be able to use it one handed most of the time. The screen is my favourite part about the phone as it makes using it much more enjoyable. I can browse the internet, check facebook and even watch youtube videos and everything looks really crisp and sharp and it is so much more pleasurable even just reading my messages on a big screen as it means that I don?t have to constantly squint to see what has been written.
I can also put music on it and listen to it through the headphones instead of having to use my ipod if I want. I also use it to play games and I get these through the android store which is installed on the phone. I can just click on the icon and it takes me to the store where I can browse through all the most popular apps and then just decide what I want and it installs them straight to my phone. You do have to pay for some games and other apps but there are so many for free that I don?t often have to pay for something that I want. I have also installed the kindle app and I have it so that it syncs with my kindle so if I have a spare few minutes while waiting for the kids at school for example I can take my phone out and open the kindle app and it syncs to where I last read on my kindle and I can read for a few minutes. I wouldn?t read on the phone all the time but it is nice to be able to read a few pages of my book no matter where I am. All the apps download to my phone really quickly too especially when I am connected to the WIFI.
I thought using touchscreen would take some getting used to but it was so easy to use straight away and really smooth and I can type a message almost as quick as I could with my old button phone. Phone calls also come through the phone loud and clear and the call quality is better than my old phone.
I went for a phone which had many functions, so I can use it for both social and work. I had to pick a phone which could do many things such as handle email, call, text, sync calendar events etc. This phone does it all! I've had to install a few apps work related, like our live chat stuff, and it works a charm. I also have the functionality to set up a VPN, to dial into work, and access the LAN, from the comfort of my own home! The S3 seems big at first, but it's a comfortable size - it sits in your hand nicely, got a nice finish on the back, and the screen is high quality - perfect for remote desktop! I have had one issue, which I rectified quite quickly. I have 8 email accounts set up on this phone, majority for work, and sync the calendar between a few of the mailboxes. When it syncs, it manages to drink a lot of battery, so I had to simply configure the sync schedule. My phone now syncs to match when I'm not working, so it doesn't sync when I'm at my desk - thus saving battery. I have the perfect phone, which supports me and my job, and I couldn't suggest anything more. I've also got it updated to the latest android, which enables the phone to have many cool feaures, which the S4 has, minus the IR emitter to control the television ;). All in all, fantastic phone, and even when my contract is over, I'm going to keep it on PAYG.
Before i got this samsung s3, i had the iphone 4, which i loved but it was running way too slow for me as i had it for years! ive only had the samsung for 3 months and i love it! even when i use my partners iphone 4s, the screen is a lot smaller than the samsung! i find that the samsung has a lot more options and there are alot of shortcut icons which let you share pictures a lot easier within the social network!
The battery does last quite long as long as the phone has fully charged, the phone will also tell you when it is fully charged and tell you to unplug the phone!
camera quality is as good as the iphone and takes the picture twice as fast so you could take 2-3 for every 1 iphone picture!
another amazing thing is bluetooth and memory card so u can have as much memory as u want!
you can also just plug you phone into the computer/laptop and download/upload pictures and add music quickly...no syncing with itunes and waiting ages! this also means u can connect your phone to any pc and you wont risk losing all your stuff! In conclusion i wouldnt go back to iphone just for the simply fact that they are expensive for not much reason!!
I had this phone for awhile before I sold it to my dad. It did me proud! The overall feel of the phone was pretty great, it was light, not too big and the screen was an excellent quality.
The touch response from the screen didnt fail me once. It was extremely responsive and the quality from photos and videos was second to none. I also liked that the normal brightness of it was absolutely fine.
The interface of the phone is pretty good, I know my girlfriend for one didn't like it as she was too used to the iPhone, however I liked that you could swipe between different pages. I thought it was pretty simple and looked good aswell.
It's general processing quality probably isn't the quickest around, it's good and I never had any complaints, but I know my friend's Nexus was a tad quicker when changing from one app to another.
The pictures taken from the phone are pretty average, I don't think there is much in the way of a difference between photos on this phone and any other phone that is out at the moment.
Load up time is good, takes under a minute to fully shut down and open the phone back up again.
Overall it's a good phone, looks and feels good, easy to store in my pocket. It's processing quality can be argued to whether it is better than the iPhone. In my opinion it's just as good.
I got this phone as a present from my Dad in August 2013 (the blue one). This was an upgrade from a blackberry bold 9790, which as I mentioned in my previous review about it was a great phone, but the app store was a bit limited. I had used android phones before but I wasn't really sure what to expect because I had used only android 2.3 and now it is significantly more advanced.
The first thing I noticed was the curved body of the phone which means it sits in your hand very comfortably. The screen is 4.8 inches which is quite large coming from a blackberry so it took a while to get used to this phone. The screen is extremely bright and I really do like the Super Amoled display. Many experts claim that it is over saturated but in my humble opinion it is just fine. On the front of the device there are 2 touch sensitive buttons as well as the home button which is a regular button in the middle.
The battery is a removable 2100mah one which is a huge advantage so you can switch it out when you want to in order to have the best battery performance. Battery life is really good on this phone despite having quad core performance at your fingertips. I have managed to get by for about 3 days before; take into account that I do not keep mobile data on all the time, I only switch it on when I use the phone and I also used the phone for texting and a bit of YouTube. It takes about 2 hours to charge fully but in general it is suggested that you charge the battery from 40% to 80% rather than to 100% in order to maximise battery life; this is less of an issue with this phone since you can remove the battery.
The processor in this phone is a quad core 1.4GHz Exynos processor with 1GB of RAM. In 2012 when this phone was brand new these were amazing specs and to be honest these will be fine for most users providing you close apps that you are not using instead of letting them run in the background. The more processes in the background the more this will drain the battery.
The camera on this phone is 8mp and it is really very good, there really is no need for having a separate camera any more for the average user. The camera on the front is 1.3mp and can be used for skype.
The UI is android 4.1 Jelly bean which can be updated to 4.3 (although there are a few bugs and the phone seems to slow down a lot) and it has Samsung's touchwiz UI on top of this stock android experience. Many people find this to be laggy and slow but I find that it has some really user intuitive features such as the drop down menu when you can turn wifi on and off. There are a number of other options available for this drop down menu.
Overall, although this phone is a year and a bit old I still think it is an excellent phone. If you are concerned about it not being future proof you could buy the i9305 model which is the 4G LTE model.
I have owned this phone for 18 months, and havent got a single complaint to make. The screen is sharp and clear, the speakers a clear and suprisingly loud and the apps available to download are endless. Since getting it I have become addicted to candy crush and farm heroes....what did I do before these were invented! I generally have to recharge it every day, but then I am using the phone endlessly throughout the day, and I beleive these games are quite heavy on the battery. If instead I choose to listen to music, or watch videos I have stored on the sd card then I find the battery doesnt drain nearly as quickly. I can check facebook or twitter in seconds, and I find the talk and type facility invaluable, and saves bags of time typing everything out. The camera is first class and has lots of different modes and functions to shoot pictures in different lighting conditions. Overall I would not swop my little gadget even if someone offered me a brand new iphone in exchange. I love it and the sheer functionality, software and quality is one of the many reasons why we chose samsung again when looking for a tv this christmas.
I have owned this phone for over a year now and is definitely the best phone I have owned to date. The screen quality is fantastic and bright. The colours are vibrant and images sharp, and I have the camera is very good on most conditions. The battery life is good especially with it having such a big screen but could be a bit better as if using all day long you will need to recharge. It is a perfect size for me I have tried the S4 and feel it's just that little bit too big to use one handed.
The sound quality on the phone is also very good when watching videos or playing games. The only negative thing I have found on the phone is it doesn't have an fm radio like most other phones. Build quality is good too even though the back is made from plastic.
When looking to buy a new phone, I went to my local O2 shop to get some advice. The helpful staff member persuaded me to buy a Samsung Galaxy 3, over an iphone.
At first, I was really impressed with my new phone. The display was much better than my last (Samsung I9000) and the camera was absolutely excellent. I wasn't sure about the size at first, as it seemed a lot bigger than my previous handset.
I found it useful to stick with Samsung, as I knew the layout, shortcuts etc and nothing was very different to before.
The first few months with my new phone were fine but after a while I noticed a problem with the battery. After a night on-charge, to 100%, it would go back down to 80% within an hour, after hardly any use. I made sure that I had all of the options set to power-saving. I ended up having to purchase a battery online which angered me slightly as I had already paid over £300 upfront for the phone.
Apart from this issue, I have been altogether happy with the phone. It is quick, easy & of high quality, specifically the camera.
I bought this phone off a friend for my father about 5 months ago and whilst setting it up for him, I fell in love. Therefore when my own phone contract ended recently I decided to get one for myself.
I still did a bit of research on available phones, but I have had Samsung phones before and I do like the brand. It seemed the logical choice as I did not want to get an iPhone as I have an iPad and didn't want the unnecessary cost.
I got my phone on monthly contract through Tesco mobile for £14 a month one of the cheaper deals out there at the moment dependent on your minutes, text and data needs. However this phone can be purchased outright for about £170.
It is not the current top model as the S4 was released in April 2013 and the S5 has been released today but that means it is now much more affordable and from what I can gather there were not many differences from S3 to S4 just the usual more memory, faster smoother and glossier. The S3 sold in its millions and at one point was outselling iPhones.
A bit of product info (what was most important to me):
- Available in 6 colours (I was only offered blue or white)
- 8 mega pixel camera with auto focus and flash
- Google search
- Predictive text
- Voice control
- WI Fi
- charger is compact and separate to USB cable
Here is my list of pros:
- small enough to still fit in my hand bag and neatly in my small hand
- large enough to be able to enjoy you tube moments and videos
- extremely easy to set up (didn't need to refer to quick start guide in box)
- nice looking head phones with variety of sized and textured ear plugs
- easy to navigate
- nice Facebook app and very easy to upload photos direct to FB, also all photos already on FB synced to my phone
- easy to set data usage limits and put restrictions in place so don't go over allowance
- battery lasts long time so far I have only needed to fully charge every 2 days (dependent on usage)
- easy to on silent quickly
- variety of security options
- music easy to use and option to sync to any existing google account
Here are my list of cons:
- not quite large enough to really watch a full film comfortably (but not what I bought it for)
- camera has delay when taking photos which doesn't seem to impact image but quite annoying
- answering incoming calls requires a swipe but a bit tricky until you get the hang of it
- slightly restricting view on e-mail inbox
- feels slightly delicate I would recommend getting a case
I am still to discover all the things this phone has to offer but so far I am very impressed.
== Quality and durability ==
I have found that this device feels incredibly well made. The buttons all feel quality and the device is very light in your hand. The screen size and the definition in the picture is great, I found myself often watching netflix on this. I had this device for 2 years and never had a problem with it. The battery is well above average in my opinion and the screen never got scratched though thorough use.
== Price and Availability ==
As this is no longer the newsest samsung generation you can get this for £250ish and for that price bracket it can't be beaten. It is also a very common phone so most technology and mobile phone shops will have this phone.
== Comparison with nearest product ==
The nearest product for this price range would be the iPhone 5. I have had both devices and Samsung wins in every category apart from the app store for me. Apples is simple better with more diverse applications.
