      Lovely shop!

To people not living in Weston Super Mare you won't understand my shopping problems at all I'm sure lol. I lived in a city before here and if I couldn't get shopping wise what I wanted in Coventry I could always nip to Brum on a bus or train, which I did regulary. Here in Weston Super Mare shop wise though we are not well off at all for shops and Bristol is quite a trek leaving me to buy a lot of my clothes from supermarkets or from a catalogue and so on. Food shopping isn't too bad but they stock all the usual food, me I like the unusual, the tasty and basically things that hard to get hold of. I love food that is home made, uses local produce and I dont mind paying a little extra for it and this place, The Food Den certainly offers all that...and more. The Shop: The Food Den 14 West Street Weston-Super-Mare North Somerset BS23 1JT tel/fax 01934 418 770 lesley-and-paul@thefoodden.com The place is lovely with local parking and is in the city centre, happily for me a couple of minutes from my front door in fact! It is a large shop ran by Leslie and Paul, a really nice couple who ran a top notch restaurant once upon a time for quite a few years when they decided on this idea and bringing a little class to the area. The shop is very stylish and in quite a run down area. Black and white on the outside and neatly laid out inside its an easy to navigate store though you do feel a bit on show in there and feel in yourself a bit watched really. So whats on offer? Well local cheeses, olives, chutneys jams, crackers, ice cream, pickles and wine, all locally produced. I can't say the stuff is cheap with jars of things close to £4.00 a time but it is lovely and if you like cheese you must try the Draycott Blue from here! This is also a ready to eat stuff snack bar. Cakes are around £1.35-£2.00 a slice, all home made and look it too. Vanilla sponge cake from here is amazing as is the hazelnut, chocolate slice that me and my mate buy often and we are actually known in the store now lol. They also do sandwiches which include a little side salad and are again made on the premises. Their slow roasted pork sandwich with homemade apple sauce, with a side salad, coleslaw and crisps costing £3.50 a plate is wonderful though they have other things on offer too and an extensive salad bar with plenty of vegetarian options for around the same price or a little higher. There is not an eating area which is a bit of a shame which is my only niggle! Not only is this a shop to grab bits and pieces from and the odd tasty takeaway this place also does outside catering, email or call them from prices as they vary. Also they do a ready meal service which is usually two meals for £12.00 which sounds a high price to me though the food is what can only be called posh though I can't comment on it I've never bought it! All in all I love this deli. I can find items in here I can find nowhere else and love the choice and high quality of their items. It isn't a weekly shop sort of place but for picking up a lump of locally sourced cheese or some wonderful fresh and tasty ham and some nice jam in the main its great for me, but seriously don't come to Weston without eating their cakes, made instore they are simply amazing!
