The old shopping centre in Cardiff, St. David's, is linked - both mentally and physically - with St. David's 2. It's big, it's shiny, it's only a short walk from the station.
There are a variety of shops here - from the high-brow (Armani Exchange) to the everyday (Clinton's Cards.) There are also many, many, restaurants and coffee shops. You won't starve. Which is good, because that place is a warren, and there's no guarantee you'll ever find your way back out onto the high street (Hint: the department stores often have a way out onto the high street. Marks and Spencer does. It also has a clean loos - just saying.)
There's a huge variety of people visiting the centre (and, as you can imagine, in half-term and over Christmas it gets fairly hectic,) ranging from tourists to locals (who tend to use it as a short cut from one part of Cardiff to another - particularly to and from the station.)
The entire places has a modern (ish) feel, only slightly marred by the odd empty shop. There are escalators and lifts to allow you to move from one floor to another (yup, there is more than one floor's worth of shops here,) and you can tell when you're in the really posh bit, because for some reason they feel the need to have fancy frontages to their shops.
It's great for Xmas shopping, but I honestly think we have enough high-class jewellers now. Most of the locals can only dream of shopping in these, with their primary clientele being from wealthy tourists from the middle and far east.
St Davids 2 is the type of shopping centre that the capital of Wales needs. It is full of shops that appeal to buyers of all age ranges and tastes. The design of the building is beautiful and is made of a range of materials and finishes. The shops available include John Lewis, Gap, Apple, New Look, H&M and the Disney Shop. Although some of these shops are already located in other areas of the Cardiff high street, the units in St Davids 2 generally offer a larger range of items including items exclusively available in larger stores.
Another advantage of St Davids 2 is that it is family friendly and has a wide range of family restaurants including Nando's and Red Hot, as well as cafe's including Costa. The centre is also somewhat connected to the original St Davids shopping centre which is great for going between the centres without having to go out into the cold in winter.A well thought out shopping centre with many shops and restaurants.
