“ City streets, markets, shopping malls, large retail parks... „
Stratford, like you'll read in any other opinion, is a tourist town. There are probably more tourists here then citizens which leads the town to get over crowded quite often! I wouldnt sujjest coming here to shop (especilly if you dont live here)! There is a town just down the road called Leamington Spa which is bigger and has a wider range of shops or better yet, go to Birmingham! You have all the normal shops, Woolworths, WH Smiths, HMV, Dixons and M n'S but there isnt anything very special here. If like moe, your a local resident, then yea, come in and have a look around but if theres something you cant find in your local area, and it has nothing to do with Shakespeare, dont come here looking for it. Sorry its a short op, nothing else to say. Its a nice place with an average shops.
This is for all of you who plan to visit the famous town of Stratford in the near future. There is nothing a local hates more than a tourist. No, sorry that’s wrong. There is nothing a local hates more than a group of tourists. Please when you are taking your pictures of the back of coaches, parked cars, school kids at the bus stop or whatever else do it quickly because there are others who have to get around. And, although we do try and wait for you we cannot wait forever. If you walk down a main road in Stratford without stopping you will be in at least 5 photos, and the number of people with a picture of the side of my head is honestly ridiculous. This is a plea for all of those unfortunate to live in a tourist town, please think about those who cannot get past you on the pavement, those who can’t wait for everyone to take a photo, and those who were in front of you in the queue. If you’re in a group don’t huddle together on the pavement, especially when the pavements are thin as they are in Stratford, don’t all crowd the same shop at the same time thinking that you are more important than everyone else. Just a bit of respect and common sense and the tourists will be infinitely more popular and locals may just talk to you or answer your questions that we have heard so many times before.
Stratford's shops mainly deal with tourists. It has the usual set of shops that practically every town has, WH Smiths, V.Shop (our price), Woolworths, M&S etc, but still has hundreds of little souvenir shops. Stratford is slowly developing into more of a working town, catering for the locals, as well as the tourists, with new shops being opened (for example HMV recently opened a new branch). There are plans to turn a 70's open shopping center into a two story indoor center, that will allow more shops into the town, and also tidy up one of the less attractive areas of the town. It is easy to find your way round the shops, because all the shopping roads join onto each other. If you aren't near many shops, you have gone the wrong way. Stratford is getting better for everyday shopping, and you can now generally find everything you are looking for.
