In a previous review I explained that my wonderful other half had surprised me by purchasing two pairs of shoes as a thank you for doing all of his paperwork last year despite me having a full time job working long hours and then having a child I still managed to keep him organised too. It was a wonderful surprise especially as he managed to go onto my laptop and find my wish list of shoes I'd like!
I have already reviewed one pair of the surprise but the other pair are from the Miss KG range which is a company who are still owned by Kurt Geiger but Miss KG have a slightly less expensive range of shoes compared to the main Kurt Geiger range. I do sometimes find Miss KG shoes can be either hit or miss but I sometimes find this with other brands. The pair of shoes in question are called Dahlia and come in either black or camel. I had opted for camel on my wish list as I preferred this colour and also I have far too many black shoes!
What Miss KG say:
"Dahlia by Miss KG is a stylish suede court featuring contrasting snake effect platform, high heel and delicate ankle strap with buckle. Simple enough to go with everything in your wardrobe, yet stylish enough to get noticed these are a must-have!"
What initially attracted me to these shoes was the snakeskin platform. I have really gotten into the whole animal patterns at the moment as they add a bit of detail to a plain outfit. Most of my clothes are plain so it is nice to add a bit of detail without being over the top. The snakeskin pattern is just on the platform which adds detail to the shoes as without this they would just be another pair of plain platform shoes which can be quite boring really.
A lot of Miss KG shoes are not made of leather but fortunately these are and I seem to get on better with leather shoes than I do with synthetic made shoes. When I put them on for the first time I found that the leather was quite rigid and a bit tough and I instantly thought these would rub my feet and I was correct! My first outing in these was a bit painful as even though they didn't rub to start off with by the end of the outing my heels were rubbed. The leather did however give a little and did start to soften so I did give them another chance and the next time I wore them even though the heels of the shoes did give me a little bother to begin with the leather softened up a lot and I was walking pain free. It just takes a while for the leather to soften than other shoes.
Dahlia also has a thin leather strap (in camel) which goes around the top of the ankle. It does up with a little gold buckle which is adjustable. Again this strap will loosen as its leather but don't do it up too tightly as it will be uncomfortable and will no doubt end up rubbing around your leg. However, this strap does make your feet feel a bit more secure in the shoes by giving you a little more support. It also adds a little detail to the shoes.
The stiletto heel is around 120mm which for me I find it is the ideal height even though I do have higher heels in my collection. The heel tip will need to be replaced a lot more often than say a shoe with a cone heel but so far my heel tips are still in perfect condition and as I wont be wearing them on a daily basis then I wont have to get them re-heeled all that often but for those wearing them very frequently you will find that they have to be replaced. The platform is a decent size but it isn't substantial unlike other shoes I own which is a nice change! I find that the combination of the smaller heel (compared to my other shoes) and the smaller platform that they are easy to walk in and are actually quite comfortable.
The heel of the shoes is a chocolate brown colour which matches the inside of the shoes which contrasts nicely with the camel colour of the shoe and the platform. The shoes are classed as an evening shoe by Miss KG but I think they are perfectly suitable for day wear as well as evening wear. Just have to be careful not to scuff the platform up as it would definitely ruin the snakeskin design. Probably more suitable for the spring/summer months as they hopefully won't get ruined by the wet weather.
Overall, I was incredibly happy to have these shoes as a gift (and he got the size right!) and for me although there was a little rubbing to start off with as soon as the shoes were properly worn in they haven't rubbed me since. I can't expect not to be rubbed by new shoes! For me these are definitely a pair of shoes which will be used regularly for evenings out and once the weather gets warmer and drier (fingers crossed!) they will be worn during the day.
Dahlia are available from any Miss KG retailer in store as well as online. My other half purchased mine from the Kurt Geiger website where they currently cost £85.00 which I think is a great price for such a lovely pair of shoes especially when compared to other shoes in this price bracket (ASOS, Topshop etc). They come in two colours as I said above (black and camel) and come in sizes 3 to 8.
