I bought these flip-flops a few years ago in Barcelona. I hadn't heard of the iPanema brand before- I was just looking for an innocuous pair of black flip-flops. I think I paid about 9 euros for them, which seemed reasonable to me at the time. It seems that these flip-flops have some pretty impressive endorsements. Legend has has it that Pierce Brosnan had a pair of these flip-flops when he was filming Mamma Mia on the Greek Island of Skopelos. He left them at a bar as a parting gift, where they have now been framed.
The first thing I noticed about the iPanemas is that the toe post is slightly further forward than it tends to be on other flip-flops. This means that if you have particularly long toes, there's a slight risk that they'll fall over the edge. Despite this, they're made from a very comfortable rubbery material- lighter than competitors like Havaianas and the foot-bed has a textured wavy pattern on it to stop your foot from sliding around. The sole had decent grip, although after some use it did wear out quite quickly in the heel area. I didn't like the Brazilian flags on each thong strap to be honest, but they proved simple enough to peel off.
The iPanemas are very light, making them very easy to wear. The material is very comfortable and will eventually mould itself to the shape of your foot. One problem that emerged in the heat of Barcelona was that the soles of my feet were stained black by the dye coming off! I'd advise anyone buying these flip-flops to wash them in soapy water prior to wearing them to prevent this from happening. Overall, they've been fine for wearing to the beach, summer sightseeing and around the pool. I even used them to play football in once (I was in Sri Lanka and everyone else had flip-flops on. It would have been cheating to have worn my trainers).
Good value flip-flops. Pretty basic but very light and easy to wear.
I have quite skinny bony feet, and I have always found it a problem finding nice flip flops which are both reasonable in price, trendy, and most of all, don't hurt my feet. I often find rubbing happens and causes me to have blisters or bleeding skin (ouch!). In the past, it has really put me off getting my tootsies out!
I discovered this brand about 6 years ago, I bought a pair of these Brazil style in Black from New Look in London's Oxford Street as an impulse buy, and they were only about £7 or £8 at the time although now I see they cost approx £12. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are, and i still have this same pair to date, they are excellent quality and still look in great shape. They have travelled to many countries with me on holiday, and I have found them so comfortable and reliable! This is not to say you would never get any kinds of blisters from them, if I'm walking out for hours, then even in comfy trainers i might get sore or blistery feet! But these flipflops really are the best I have bought. I have since bought 2 other pairs from the iPanema range, and they have been equally good.
What I love about these flip flops as that they are so simple and trendy in design, they go with lots of things, dresses, shorts, and trousers.... And they come in a nice range of colours to suit most people (black, pink, white, orange, blue). The little brazilian flag is cute, and adds to the branding of the product. They are made from a soft rubbery plastic material, which even if bent by accident, stays in good shape.
There is such a massive range and variety of colours available, they are all listed on their website (noted further down).
For a while, they have had supermodel Gisele Bundchen as their brand ambassador, as she is also Brazilian, like this brand, and she gives the brand a bit of a glamorous take. She has also designed a fair few designs for this brand, which have been really popular, although I do not personally own one of her designs.
I haven't seen these flip flops in that many places, Debenhams is the main current one, or you can buy them direct from their own website (www.ipanemaflipflops.co.uk - with free postage if you spend over £25) whereas you can find its nearest competitor Havaianas in quite a lot of places - but I don't find these as comfortable or pretty! If you have a Nectar card, you can connect to the website through the Nectar website, and collect Nectar points too!
I love these flip flops, and hope they are around forever!!
