As usual winter hit me like a ton of bricks and I realised I had no stylish footwear lol. I've since had to say goodbye to my Ugg boots and decided I want a new pair of long leather boots. I have seen some nice ones in River Island, Dune and Office, but after battling with my conscience I bought these (not to say I won't later buy any of the others, fingers crossed for January sales!).
The boots are made of 100% leather and I bought them in a "mink" colour (according to the box) but they look quite an antiquey shade of brown. I liked this brown as it is more unique than a tan or dark brown and so I feel they make me stand out. The inside has a soft leather lining and they have a PU sole (a really durable rubber) which I find has excellent grip, compared to my cheap boots from River Island which make me slip at the first sight of rain on the floor!
The outside of the boot has a lovely riding boot design, with a type of gold clasp which is at the ankle and a strap going across the upper of the boot. I like this style, although I must say the gold clasp is not real and I worry if after a while it is going to fade and rust. The best thing about these boots are that they are sooo comfortable! I can wear them all day and have no aches or rubbing and what with the weather we have been having they are great to slip on and dash outside. I don't wear them to work or anything (wouldn't be allowed in the office lol!) but on the weekends and evenings they are lovely and go best with jeans/leggings.
Size wise, I usually find Ecco quite big (and already own other styles in a 4/EUR 37) however, for me these fit true to size and I bought a a size 5/EUR 38. Saying this, it is winter and I am wearing them with rather thick socks so as to keep my toes warm! Another point to mention is many of my friends complain about having fat calves and the difficulty of finding long boots that will actually zip up around them. On the opposing side of the picture displayed above these boots have a long zip to help put them on/take them off. I am quite slim and have no problem wearing these and doing the zip up, but I do tend to only wear them with jeggings/jeans/leggings otherwise there is a teeny bit of gape around my leg and I don't like how my legs look in them with a dress or skirt. Saying that, this is not a big issue as I have lots of other footwear which I can wear with skirts and dresses and that's not my purpose for these boots anyway. There is a buckle around the top of the boots to help loosen/slightly tighten so for people with really big calves may find this some help for adjustment but I just leave it where it is.
These cost £145 and also come in black. For what I would probably pay in other stores I think this is good value as they are in line with the same pricing but I am sure these boots will last me much longer. They have a 1 year warranty so I am guaranteed to get some good wear out of them at least but I know I will have them years, similar as my other ecco footwear. I got these from the store in Covent Garden, London but they can also be bought online on ecco.com for the same price and free shipping.
