Fabric lace up trainer shoes with synthetic sole, toe guard and edging. Converse All Star badge on the back heel and tongue. These are available in a variety of colours, including; white, black, navy, red, charcoal, maroon, pink and beige. They come in junior sizes for children, ladies sizes and right through up to men's size 13.
The trainer part itself is very flexible and bendy. They have metal eyelets for the laces to feed through.
* Well made and seem to last well.
* Fit true to size.
* Quite expensive for what they are. (I paid £45 for my adult size 4 pair).
* There isn't much cushioning on the inside sole, so I don't find them particularly comfortable for long periods of time, although they did get slightly more comfortable after they were worn in a bit.
* Can be hard to keep them looking clean, with them being canvas, so not ideal for wearing in bad or wet weather!
I personally think these trainers look better once worn in a bit and also are more comfortable after a few wears. They go with most things, from skinny jeans, to floral dresses, so are quite versatile.
They are of good quality, just a shame there isn't a bit more padding inside to make them more comfortable, as the sole really is quite hard with no cushioning. Not what you normally expect with leisure footwear.
Anyone can wear these, from the very young to the more mature of us!
I've had mine for 2 years now and because I look after them, (only ever wear them if it's dry), they still look great with lots of wear left in them yet.
Would I buy another pair? Probably not for myself, but that's because I don't wear casual footwear all that often, but I would possibly buy them for my children.
I give this item 3 out of 5 stars.
I have always loved Converse but when I was going through a bit of grunge phase in my teens, I bought hi-tops and then I grew out of them and didn't wear Converse for years afterwards as I preferred dressing differently to that time. However, now years on from then I have seen girls wearing them with skinny jeans and making them look really quite stylish and also on casual days at work, I don't really wear trainers so these seem like a nice option to wear. I decided I wanted the All Star Oxford ones which are not high and I knew I wanted to get them in blue so I asked for these for Christmas.
All Converse shoes look similar, especially the lace ups as they have quite an American look to them. They look nice though and the sizing on them is always very accurate as they are unisex but I got mine in my usual size 7 and they fit me perfectly. The top of the toe has a white rubber front and so does the outside of the show and the base has a thick rubber grip sole and then on the front, the tongue of the shoe is navy blue canvas as is the whole body of the shoe and the laces are white and you can lace these however you want through the loops. They have the Converse All Star logo on the front and heel of the shoe and look lovely.
CONVERSE ALL STAR OXFORD SHOES
The main part of these shoes is canvas and the inner fabric is cotton, these measure at 34 x 13 x 11cm and the rubber base is what makes them feel quite heavy but they are quality so will last a while and the part that will wear first will be the canvas. I like that when wearing jeans, these are so easy to wear with any, even if you just want to wear them to run to the shops or on a casual day, they are comfy. I always make sure I wear these with low trainer socks for comfort and these feel nice on but to wear with no socks will make the shoes smell very quickly with the inside being only cotton.
Some people use Converse for running and sports but I don't think this is right as these don't have a lot of support for the shoe and are made mainly for walking in, I do think these are great for wearing to gigs and for walking around in as I have never found that they rub on my heel, especially not with wearing socks with them. These will get dirty in time also but the weird thing is that is trendy for Converse as at first they are always bright white but people like to make them look well worn. I have to say, I like mine looking new but to keep the front rubber section white will be hard as even wiping it, eventually it will start to look dirty.
Converse All Stars have been iconic from as far back as 1923 and this was originally designed as basketball footwear but since then, the shoe has become popular worldwide. What I love is that the creators always change the styles slightly whether it be different canvas colours, prints or fabrics and then adding changes such as shearling interior or quilted leather, for an iconic shoe it is still constantly being reinvented and people are still loving these. I love that you can still buy the classics but also something a bit more special, these shoes are made well too and always lasted me well.
I think I prefer the Oxford shoe as it is more me being lower and I can wear it with more whereas the hi-tops, I used to find harder to wear with some outfits. I have been wearing these with leggings and with my normal skinny jeans and they have gone with everything, especially being a nice navy blue colour. I don't like to wear Converse when it is raining though as the canvas does get wet quickly whereas on dry days these are the perfect shoe. I would love to buy these in another colour as I have found them so comfy and they are just easy to put on if I need to run outside quickly whether it be to the shops or somewhere else.
You can buy Converse from most shoe shops like Schuh or Office but Amazon sell them for a great price of £34.99 for my size which is cheaper than Office who are selling them at £44.99 the RRP and Amazon give 20% off if you sign up to their clothing newsletter, so you would get them for £28.

I recently received a pair of Converse All Star Ox canvas trainers as a gift whilst out shopping with my mum. She purchased them from a local Bank store for £45 - although that is only a guide to the price of Converse All Stars as there are a lot of styles and variations of this shoe. Generally the Ox style seems to retail for around this price though.
Mine are plain with maroon woven canvas, white laces and a white rubber sole. They also have a rubber toe cap. There is a trademark 'Converse All Stars' label sewn into the tongue of the shoe as well as one stuck to the back of the sole. They are available in a wide range of colours so I assume there's something available for everyone. They also sell similar versions for men and for juniors.
Reason for Purchasing
The reason for the purchase was to replace a pair of Vans that I have owned for around a year. I find these style of shoes more appealing than ordinary trainers, as I feel that they are a little smarter and go really well with a wide range of outfits. Although I own trainers, I don't seem to wear them all that often because I don't feel happy wearing them with many outfits. These canvas styles though seem to go well under jeans or just as well with leggings. I also think that they are a very fashionable addition to my wardrobe - they seem to be very popular with a wide range of ages at the moment too.
I have looked at Converse All Stars before and I'm not sure if the sizing of these shoes have been changed, but unfortunately last year I struggled to find a pair that fitted properly. I usually wear a size 7 in trainers but the styles I picked out last year were all only available up to a size 7 in the women's styles and I found the size a touch too small back then. But when looking for this pair, the sizing was a different story - at least in the style I chose. They offered these in sizes 3-8 and I found the size 7 to fit perfectly.
The shoes are extremely comfortable. I use them for everyday wear - nipping out shopping, spending my weekends pottering about etc. They are perfect for these purposes - even spending a whole day in them walking around does not affect my feet in the slightest. I come home without any marks on my feet, no rubbing or any irritation whatsoever. I have always found this to be the case - even from the very first wear which is also quite a thing for me. From memory, I don't think I have ever owned a pair of shoes or trainers that haven't marked my feet a little bit on the first couple of wears before they've broken in properly. It's always at the back of the ankle that rubs for me but that's just not been the case here - these have been like walking on air!
No problems for wider feet....
I have fairly wide feet and although I usually buy shoes from high street fashion stores that don't offer wider fittings, I do sometimes have to opt for the wider choices in shops such as Next that do have them on offer. I find that these are definitely wide enough for my feet though and I find they have plenty of room in them to spare too. I also think they are fairly flexible to my feet.
The shoes are also quite robust - I've owned mine for a few weeks now and worn them quite extensively. They've lasted very well and haven't even started to look worn in any way. I feel that at £45, they are reasonably priced given their durability. I did find that the tongue moved a little at first as it is longer than I've noticed previously on other types of shoe (which was a bit annoying) but I don't think I'd fastened the laces tightly enough and once I adjusted those, it's stayed in place well.
The only slight downside is the maintenance of the shoe. With them being made of canvas, I don't find them particularly easy to remove marks from and obviously being footwear they are susceptible to picking up a fair few. I wipe them with a damp cloth so it might be because I don't use any sort of specialist cleaner designed for canvas on them although in the end it works well enough doing it that way. I'm quite lucky in that the maroon colour doesn't show the marks all that much anyway but I assume cleaning the lighter versions available (eg white, light pink) would be a pain as the marks would be clearly visible.
I've rated the shoe 5 stars overall as I feel that's right. I know I've mentioned a downside of cleaning the shoe, but I have to assume that is down to me not purchasing a separate specialist cleaner designed for this type of shoe. In terms of comfort and durability, these score top marks and they are something I will be looking to repurchase, perhaps in another colour or style for variety!
Thanks for reading :o)
I have been loving converse all stars for over five years now and have owned a fair few pairs in my time. I have only ever had to put one pair to rest due partly to the fact that these look better and better the more you wear them!
They are pretty much the only shoes I wear these days although I am toying with the idea of buying myself a pair of dr martens for the first time in about 20 years this winter as converse are not so good in the cold and rain ! To be fair, I doubt any canvas plimsol would be!
These low converse all stars have 6 metal eyelets and come with plain white flat laces. It is fun sometimes to put coloured laces in instead though. I have a pair of bright hot pink laces that I often put through my plain black all stars to jazz them up a bit.
The shoes have a white rubber toe cap and white bumpers all the way around which makes these shoes very instinctive indeed
Converse come in a huge range of colours and often in limited edition prints such as marvel comic strips too. Basically, you think of a colour and you can get a pair of converse in it! These are available in pretty much every sports shop as well as departmental stores too.
These retail at £45 per pair but due to the fact that pretty much every retailer stocks these, you can almost always pick a pair up at a discount, somewhere!
On the whole I find these incredibly comfy and I think they look great with jeans. I truly believe these are (like me) something that gets better with age ;-)
Converse All Star Ox:
I have silly big feet for a girl, size 11 to be exact! I have always had trouble finding comfy shoes that didn't look too masculine, that was until I discovered Converse.
Converse are an iconic brand that have been around since 1908. They originally made rubberised footwear before beginning to make athletic footwear in 1915. The real turning point for the company though was when Charles H. "Chuck" Taylor, (a basketball player) walked in off the street and ending up working for Converse. When people think of Converse now, they are thinking of the basketball boots designed by Chuck and made famous by the plethora of celebrities that wore them.
The All Star Ox are very similar to the basketball boots, or High Tops which have changed very little since the 1920s. All Star Ox are a shoe based on the basketball boot design because of this they are often called "Low Tops". They are laced and made of canvas with rubber soles and bumpers. On most pairs of Converse the soles and bumpers are white, often sporting red and blue stripes. These days you get an almost endless choice of colours and designs and if you live in the US you can even design your own pair and have them made and sent to you! I personally have them in blue, red, black, purple, and white with stars on, I even have a pair of Converse flip-flops.
Although I do think Converse look cool, (I wore a pair to my wedding reception), the main thing for me is how comfy they are. The shape of the inside of the shoe gives really good support to your feet and seems to gently hug your foot. The rubber toe caps protect your toes and the soles have a pattern to help with grip (although they do get a little slippery in rain on smooth surfaces).
I find Converse to be pretty true to size, although in recent years they have got narrower, not so much that they don't fit right but enough for me to notice. I think they make my feet look smaller and more normal unlike a lot of trainers.
My All Star Ox's have lasted me ages. The soles seem almost indestructible and when the canvas starts getting worn they just seem to look better and better.
The price varies massively but expect to pay anything from £22.00 + for adult sizes and much more for rarer colour ways and limited edition designs.
Overall, Converse are my favourite thing to wear on my feet, I have never even found slippers that are as comfy!
As I wear high heels and skirts through the week for work in the office I always enjoy wearing casual clothes at the weekend and as such I was in need of a pair of casual shoes to wear with my jeans. My eldest daughter had a few pairs of converse and they always looked nice but I worried that as someone in their thirties they may not go down too well on me. How wrong I was, I got myself a pair of these in white from bank and I paid £29.99 which is very reasonable for the quality and fit. The first day I wore them they looked really smart with my jeans but I have found that with continued wear they now look a little bit dirty but I don't think that would be as much of a problem if I had chosen any other colour than white.
The material is a sort of soft canvas and the soles are a hard rubber which can be easily wiped down, I have actually put these through the washing machine and they survived but I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have had them a while and don't mind them looking a little 'bashed up'.
Overall a really comfortable shoe that can be worn with many outfits and looks pretty trendy too.
I think most people will have heard of Converse, they're a classic. Most people that I know own at least one pair and when I was at college a couple of years ago everyone was wearing them!
They started out as being known as the trainers that Emo kids wore (you'll know what I mean if you were at high school in the past few years) but they soon became really popular with literally everyone and they're unisex so both guys and girls wear them.
They tend to be mostly popular with young adults and teenagers, but there are infant and children's sizes available now too (trust me, they're adorable - kai has a pair) Though they are really popular I must admit that I have never seen older people wearing them, or at least I have never noticed older people wearing them. They are quite hip and young. They're still really fashionable despite how long they've been around which I think speaks volume.
~~* Cost *~~
I bought my pair of converse from ASOS around two and a half years ago. They were reduced at the time and I managed to get them for £38 and the retail price averages at about £52 for a leather pair depending on the design and colour that you want.
I only bought them because I had some birthday money at the time and had been wanting a pair for ages but couldn't really bring myself to pay so much when there are such cheaper alternatives in places like new look. But, after buying and wearing the cheaper alternatives and getting sick of how quickly they became tatty and unwearable I decided it was time to invest in a pair of better quality shoes and I have definitely had my money's worth.
~~* Design ~~*
I am reviewing the Converse All Star Ox. These are different from the original converse because of the material. Original converse are made from a fabric, canvas material whereas these are made from leather. Call me dumb but I didn't realise this until I received them!
I considered returning them, because they weren't what I was expecting and looked a little different to all of my friends converse because they were all the original version. This exact design can actually also be bought in a canvas material, and there are a lot of different designs. It can all get a bit confusing to be fair and I was overwhelmed when choosing my pair!
I was going to get the red ones at first but in the end I chose the white ones with red and black detailing which is one of the more popular and recognisable colours - you can tell from looking at them that they are converse and not vans or a cheap high street store trainer. They come in a lot of colours and there are sometimes limited edition ones like bright pink ones or batman designed ones.
~~* Comfort *~~
Converse are extremely comfortable and I wear them most days. I tend to wear them if I know I will be walking a fair way eg to the bus stop or around town. The thick rubber sole gives the feeling of a slight bounce, if that makes sense rather than leaving me feeling flat footed.
They let my feet breathe and fit perfectly, and the never rub against my ankles or make my toes feel squashed. They aren't as lightweight as the canvas converse but they're no more heavier than any other pair of trainers. I can wear these without socks as the inside is really soft and smooth. Actually, I find it a bit of a squeeze to wear socks with them unless its trainer socks, not that this bothers me though.
~~* Durability *~~
Converse are very durable and as I said above, I have definitely had my money's worth and I think they'll last for another year or so before I bin them. I'm not going to pretend that they are still immaculate after two and a half years (or there abouts) because they're not. They do look a little battered and slightly grubby, but this adds to the look in my opinion.
The brand new look with a stunning bright white finish and perfect stitching and neat laces was nice while it lasted but I think that my slightly battered pair of converse look pretty cute! They haven't lost their shape, become smelly or majorly discoloured (i do clean them regularly, mind! so there is no physical damage to them - its all just aesthetical andnothing serious. The sole is firmly intact and there are no holes or major stains and the look nice when I'm wearing them - not grubby or old.
~~* Sizes *~~
Converse are available in men's, women's & children's sizes. I have them in a size 5.5 which is my usual size and they genuinely fit like a dream.
~~* Conclusion *~~
Fashionable, great value for money, look great with any outfit & are amazingly comfortable! What's not to love?
OK, so I bought a pair of converse ox because I was tired of being the one who couldn't talk about their latest fashion outing. Converse were something that were frequently talked about so I thought that I would give them a go.
I could understand why people like them. There's many different styles and colors to choose from and so I chose this model in a nice shade of maroon. They were actually very comfortable which I wasn't expecting if I'm truly honest. They were like little wrappers for my feet. They slipped on nicely and kept my feet surprisingly warm!
The rubber around the shoe was a good idea. I don't really go to places that are particularly muddy but even when just going down the road it's very easy to get mud on them, especially when it's wet. But, thanks to the rubber and mud that gets on them I can easily wipe off. It also looks pretty good as well.
The canvas makes the shoe look appealing. Just the combination of the canvas and rubber makes for one stylish looking shoe. I was also expecting it to rips given actually how thin the shoe is but it's stayed together almost as good as new.
Overall I can certainly vouch for the converse ox as an exceptionally comfortable and trendy shoe. When these get quite old I'm going to by myself another pair in one of the very many different colors. Highly recommended!
I have had 3 pairs of 'converse' style shoes, one black canvas pair from levi's, one white leather pair from prada, one oxblood canvas pairfrom converse.
In order of quality it goes Prada > levi >converse. It is to be expected that prada would make the best shoe as they were about £120 (they are made of white soft leather too), but the levi's were only £20, the converse something like £45. That price is neither expensive or cheap, it just slots into that middle ground. I'd actually rather pay more, or pay less and get the 'fake' or 'premium' option, everyone has converse, so they're a bit played out.
I do love the colour, they come in a range of funky colours to appeal to expressive teenagers, but the oxblood is different yet restrained, I like it.
The thing I don't love about converse is how thick the sole is, I have never liked this look and both the other pairs I had sported a much thinner sole. If you like the chunky sole though each to their own.
For £45 I think you can do better as they're not overly comfortable shoes, and they get dirty quickly (and you can't clean canvas), unless you really need the real deal just get a pair of knock offs, or get some good quality leather shoes that will last you twice as long.
Some people say the dirty look is all part of the charm, but I don't really see the appeal.
I have wanted some Converse shoes for quite some time and although I wasn't all that keen on the high top shoes they do I did really like the all star ox trainers and so I decided to treat myself to some. This is my review of the Converse all star ox trainer.
The Converse all star ox trainer is a casual looking low trainer which features a canvas upper section and white rubber soles and toe box. They are a casual shoe and yet I think they are pretty timeless as they seem to have been around for many years now and are still going strong! The trainer features the all star label on the tongue as well as on the back of the shoe on the rubber sole and so people will be able to see you are wearing the real deal as opposed to an imitation from the high street. I say this because many stores are selling their own versions of these shoes since they have become so popular and from experience I can tell you that they do not last the same and are not as good quality at all.
The Converse all star ox trainer does come in many different colours and so there is something that will probably suit everyone really! I have them in beach blue which is a lovely bright blue colour and I have just ordered myself another pair in pink because I love them so much! My son has the junior version in red whilst my sister has some in white and so they really do come in various colours! What I love about all the converse all star ox is that they have silver eyelets where the laces are thread and it does stands out well against the colour of the shoe no matter which colour you have and they just make the shoe look well made and more expensive than the imitation ones out there.
Obviously having a canvas upper these shoes aren't going to be an all weather shoe though I do believe you can get a waterproofing spray which is something I am going to look in to as it apparently helps to keep them clean as well. I personally do not like wearing my Converse when it is raining and such like because I feel as though they will get damaged and I don't want them to. These are, in my opinion anyway, a classic shoe for wearing in any season so long as the weather is dry!
When I first got these shoes I did think they looked a little chunky and heavy because of the thick rubber soles but actually when they are on your feet they don't feel heavy at all. What I do have to say is that these shoes really offer no support to the foot or ankle really because of their low fit and in all honesty I probably shouldn't be wearing them because of my issues with my dodgy knee following which my physiotherapist advised I should buy "proper" shoes from Clarks and such like! I am not really a fan of Clarks shoes for myself though and so I like to purchase items that I like and which are comfortable! This is where I have to say these are the most comfortable shoes that I own! Despite the low fit and lack of support I can really walk in these trainers and feel comfortable which is why I have ordered a second pair!
What I also must point out is just how flat these shoes feel when you are walking in them! That may sound like an odd observation given they are a pair of flat shoes but I have dolly shoes, other trainers or even flat boots but none feel as flat as these Converse and it was a little odd at first getting used to that!
The trainers did need a little breaking in and at first hurt my toes slightly but once they are broken in they really are so comfortable. I like to wear these with leggings and jeans but I know my sister even wears hers with dresses or shorts on nights out at University these days and so they are such a versatile shoe.
What I also liked about the Converse all star ox was the fact that I was able to order them in a half size. I had spoken to my sister about her pair and actually tried her size three on which fit pretty well considering we are both a size four! I actually ordered mine in a three and a half and have found them to be the perfect size in both length and width. I believe they do cover most sizes for children, women and men and so you should be ok finding a pair to fit!
I ordered my Converse from my look again catalogue where they had a few colours for £38. Having looked online it would seem the price varies quite a lot with some on asos costing £40, some on schuh for £43 and so I think I got them at a reasonably good price! The catalogue did only have the beach blue, pink, grey, mint green and red options to choose from but these colours suited me anyway!
I'm sure you can tell that I do recommend this versatile shoe. They are comfortable, fashionable and easy to wear. I know my sister has thrown hers in the wash a couple of times as well when they have become dirty and they've come out fine and so I do think these are built to last! I know since I bought mine I have got a little bit of an obsession and would like many more colours of this trainer!
Thank you for reading my review!
