I received a Nivea for men gift set for Christmas from my aunt who always buys me something from Boot's so I assume that is where she got this. One of the items contained in the set was this aftershave balm.
I don't really use a lot of aftershave balms as normally I just use a moisturiser as I find that they do the same job but I am enjoying using this and it is better than I had thought it was going to be.
The balm is for sensitive skin and comes in a white glass bottle. It is alcohol free and has vitamin E as well as moisturising agents to keep skin soft and hydrated. It also contains Calendula, Bisabolol, panthenol and allantoin for calming and soothing post shave irritated skin.
The balm comes out of the bottle as a white lotion which has quite a runny texture to it. I use it after shaving on my neck and lower face where I have shaved. It is quite cooling when I apply it to my skin and it really does help take the heat of out my skin after it has been shaved much better and quicker than a plain moisturiser does.
It isn't greasy but it does take a little bit longer to absorb completely into my skin than a normal moisturiser. Once it is absorbed however it isn't tacky to the touch and doesn't make my skin feel or look shiny or sticky.
It also smells really good and although it is lightly scented it smells really fresh and clean so is perfect for using after having a shower and a shave. I tend to get a razor burn quite often and this really does help to cool my skin down and take away the burn. The cooling effect also isn't just something which lasts for a few seconds as I can feel it on my neck for a while afterwards and this does make my skin feel more comfortable and less irritated. It is also really good for taking away some of the redness that I get on my neck after shaving.
It doesn't do anything for ingrown hairs or for really severe razor burns but for something to put on straight after shaving to take away the heat and dryness associated with shaving this is a really god aftershave balm.
I have only been using this for a few weeks but I really like it so far and it is definitely one of the better balms that I have used for after shaving. Instead of just being a moisturiser with a fragrance this actually works to combat the dryness as well as the irritation which is what a good aftershave balm should do.
It is also really reasonably priced and although I got this as part of a set you can purchase it separately for around about £5.
I use Nivea sensitive post shave balm on a regular basis although I do also occasionally use normal aftershave.
The sensitive balm which I use can be easily purchased at many different retail outlets. It can often be found on offer with other Nivea products for men. It comes in a white 100 ml bottle which has a nice big screw cap.
I like it because I do have fairly sensitive skin, but not overly sensitive. I find its best to store it upside down on its cap and give it a shake before you use it.
Just put some on your palms, not too much and rub it into your face firmly but gently. Its non greasy and is absorbed quickly. It doesn't contain alcohol which does irritate my skin. There is a nice smell with it. Its a nice fruity type of smell not over powering like many aftershaves. After use it leaves my skin feeling nicely moisturised with no stinging or burning often associated with aftershave products. I also shave my head right down to the wood and use this product on my head and the back of my neck. It works perfectly on these areas.
To sum it up, I find this a good user friendly product easy to use.
I get quite bad shaving rash due to having sensitive skin and also when I shave my head I get a really irritable neck which is really uncomfortable, this product will take the heat away from any burning sensation without leaving a greasy film on your skin.
Just shake the bottle well and squirts three squirts into your hand and rub together and apply to the sensitive area, do not rub hard when you are applying or you may just make the irritation more irritable with the friction, then just leave to cool. This cooling feeling is due to the Active Comfort System which is quick absorbing, gentle alcohol free cream with pure Chamomile and vitamin E in it.
It is not a moisturiser but does make your skin feel smoother but at the same time the wrinkles won't go away with this product.
I cannot stress how much this changed my life, from being uncomfortable after a shave or a hair cut to knowing this will work within a few minutes and with constant use it will take the edge of any shave you have in the future. Do not get it mixed up with the cheaper Nivea products such as the moisturiser creams because they will not work to ease the burn.
Price wise this can be bought on the internet between £3 and £6.29 in the high street shops. Remember to get the one with SENSITIVE on the packaging and if you can some come with a top you can squirt the product from instead of the screw top lid.
Enjoy the feeling.
I have always found that shaving, whether using an electric razor or manual blade, can leave my skin feeling irritated and looking red, especially around my neck area.
I have tried several products to try and calm down the post-shave irritation, and all in all they have either caused a stinging sensation or even made the appearance of my skin worse. I recently saw this product advertised as for sensitive skin and decided to give it a go and what a difference!
One of the worst things about applying a product after shaving is the stinging sensation. However with the Nivea post shave balm, that has not been an issue in the slightest.
A small application is needed to cover the entire area. It is non-greasy, with a pleasant odour. The balm itself is white in colour which is absorbed rapidly into the skin after application. It gives the skin a pleasant, soft and hydrated feeling all day and calms down any redness that may occur.
I believe that the outside box has changed since the picture above, however it is still easy to spot in the men's toiletries section of any supermarket or drug store. A bottle has lasted me for around three months and it can get a little expensive to replace at around £5 a bottle. However if you do suffer with red irritated skin after shaving, give it a go!
I have always struggled with sensitive skin, after shaving it always hurts and I hate the pain. When buying my usual Nivea for men sensitive shave gel, I noticed this product. It was quite expensive, I paid £6 for it which I thought was a bit expensive. The gel did stop my irritation, but not completely. So I thought this was worth a try.
The balm is a white colour and comes in a nice bottle. I applied this after my shave and it fealt cool and calming. I knew straight away that is worked because after rubbing it in, my face was smooth and didn't hurt to touch like usual.
This stuff smells really great and leaves a fresh scent on your face. I had never thought that using any thing different before, so glad I saw this! This is now part of my daily routine and I am greatful for it!
I am on my second bottle and the first one lasted me 6 months. You only need a little bit everytime. It's worth it's rather large price tag! I would also recommend this to anyone who
Doesnt suffer from sensitive skin too, because it moisturises and leaves you feeling so nice and clean shaven!
Thanks for reading :)
Due to a mixture of uncontrollable factors and laziness I have quite sensitive skin after shaving so I am constantly on the lookout for a reliable balm to use instead of painful aftershave.
This aftershave balm by Nivea is to be applied directly after shaving to soothe the skin. The actual product comes in a white opaque bottle with the balm of the viscosity of moderately thick custard but is pure white in colour.
Instantly when you use it you feel relieved and soothed. Not a lot of the product is needed for the desired effect and this ensures that a small bottle can last. There is no distinct fragrance other than the generic type that you find in most brands of moisturiser.
I personally love this brand and I've had no negative experiences with it but if I was to draw up one potential point of criticism it would be that the weight of the bottle itself means that you're not quite sure just how much of the product is left until you get rather low. As I said, a real minor gripe to what is an essential part of the male grooming routine.
This review follows on well from my previous review of Nivea for Men Soothing Shaving Foam (Review Title: Kiss My Face!!!)...
As I said then, like a lot of men, I have had trouble with sensitive skin and irritation while shaving. I have to shave every day (or at least every other day) to be neat and tidy for work, and if you're not careful that can take its toll on your skin.
When I first started wet-shaving, I tried a few different types of aftershave and found that they really stung and aggravated my skin. I knew I was going to have to use something more soothing; I found Nivea After Shave Balm and decided to give it a try.
Fortunately, it worked well and I have used it ever-since (for at least 6 years now). If applied straight after shaving, it cools and soothes your skin, eases irritation, and closes your pores without stinging - miraculous! When applied, you have to wait a couple of minutes for it to soak in and be absorbed properly. Even with sensitive skin I can shave every day without aggravating my skin (provided I have a nice clean razor, obviously) which is a great result.
The white lotion is very gentle, and is very lightly scented, but quite pleasant. You don't really need to use a lot of it, as a little goes quite a long way. I find that if you pour it onto the palm of your hand, a patch about the size of a 10p coin is easily enough for my face and neck. Needless to say, if you have a massive face, go for a £2 coin size :-)
I've been using this balm for at least 6 years now, several times a week and getting great results each time. My face is always soothed, not raw, after shaving and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who struggles with sensitive skin.
Nivea Sensitive aftershave balm is a product that you use after shaving. With shaving your skin can feel burning and small cuts can occur. The pores of the skin are after shaving more open than usual. The aftershave balm therefore contains astringent substances and organic acids, which will make the pores of the skin to contract. There are also antiseptic substances that prevent the wounds from getting infected. The cooling ingredients oppress the burning feeling. This Nivea Sensitive aftershave balm is perfect for men with sensitive skin. According to the manufacturer this product has a regenerative effect deep and soothes the skin and it provides instant hydration. This balm contains no alcohol, but contains the nourishing ingredients such as provitamin B5, vitamin E, chamomile and jojoba oil.
* Panthenol Provitamin B5 is mentioned. This is an ingredient which is used in many cosmetic products. It has a moisturizing effect. It provides a moisturizing effect and makes the skin supple and elastic and reduce superficial signs of aging. It also helps against irritations, itching, diaper rash, etc. and contributes to the cure of light (sun) burns.
* Chamomile is native to Asia, South and Eastern Europe. Now this plant grows in much of Europe. As a medicinal plant chamomile works inflammatory, disinfectant.
* Jojoba oil is obtained from cold pressing of the seeds of the jojoba bush which grows in the deserts of Mexico and Arizona. Mexican Indians used jojoba oil for the care of their skin and hair. It protects skin and hair against inclement weather and cold, air and static electricity. Jojoba oil also supports the restoration of scars. Jojoba oil provides a soft, supple and healthy skin.
* Vitamin E is a vitamin that is often processed into cosmetics. The reason for using this vitamin, among other things that its a good remedy against harmful free radicals. The damage of free radicals can be reduced by antioxidants. Vitamin E has an antioxidant effect, like beta carotene.
It's a almost odourless aftershave balm. It is easy to dose and feels soft on the skin. I bought the 100ml bottle to try it out. I was very happy with this after shave balm. I had no burning or itching after use and had no red marks. It is also very economical since it will last you about two months and absorbs quickly into the skin. You pay around 5 pounds for this one and think it's definitively worth it.
A while back I bought a Nivea travel wash bag which also included a few Nivea toiletries including deodorant, face wash and After Shave balm. I bought the wash bag as I was going on a camping holiday and needed a new wash bag and some smaller toiletries. I can't remember the exact price of the Nivea wash bag but you can find the balm as it is widely available and you'll be able to find a big 100ml tube for around £4 or £5 in most supermarkets and stores like Boots and Superdrug. There are other shaving products available from Nivea in the range which are also excellent but today I am reviewing the After Shave Balm.
The balm is a cool white coloured balm which has a scent which is a lot like sun cream and is applied on the skin after your shave which is pretty self explanatory. I was very impressed with the feel of the balm once applied. It has a cool feel which gives your skin a very fresh and smooth feel without any irritation at all which is ideal for people with more sensitive skin. I love the way the balm feels when the balm is applied and it's ideal for cooling your skin on a hot day. This balm is an extra gentle, alcohol-free formula that is Formulated with Chamomile, Vitamin E and Provitamin B5, it really helps calm and soothe the skin from the shave and as it's free from alcohol it won't irritate your skin as some balms can. I like the fact that the scent is subtle and won't clash with any deodorant or eau de toilette that you may be wearing as well.
I am very impressed with this product, It like the other products in this particular Nivea range is a top product which will leave your skin feeling refreshed and it can also be used as a moisturiser for your skin. An excellent product which is an important shaving aid, I'm sure all of us have experienced skin irritation from a bad shave and this will certainly combat that and the great thing about it is that it will last a decent amount of time as you don't need to use all that much when you apply it. I've still got quite a bit left in mine as I had two 30ml tubes of this in the travel bag and I use it along with the face wash which is also an excellent product which would be a step up from a cheap alternative or nothing at all.
Ever since I have started using an electrical shaver I have found less skin irritation from shaving. From time to time though I do find my skin can be a little dry and flakey due to shaving and on these occassions I use one of the aftershave balms I own. One of them is the Nivea for Men Replenishing aftershave balm and it comes in a simple and informative box. The box is predominantly blue with the typical Nivea for Men branding on the front. The balm is intended for use post-shave and instantly soothes sore skin aswell as protecting it from becoming sore in the first place.
When I apply the non-greasy balm I immediately notice the cooling sensation on my skin and as it contains moisturisers, vitamin E and provitamin B5 I know it is good for my skin. It isn't nice to be left with white flakey patches of skin on my neck and face, so I do still use the balm towards the end of the week after a number of days of daily shaving (I don't shave on weekends to give my skin a rest). My skin is always left looking healthy and it feels great aswell as having a refreshing scent and also cooling and soothing feel. Priced at around the £5 mark for the 100ml pack I would say it is reasonably well priced compared to other top brands. The scent is masculine, so I don't have to walk around knowing that I smell like a womens perfume shop. I think a lot of the balms can sometimes smell quite feminine and the more muted scents can be the worst culprit of this - no fear of that from this product.
Everything about the product is aimed at the typical bloke. The simple operation of the cap on the bottle, to the masculine aesthetics of the labelling. This is probably one of the 'safer' aftershave balms to try first. The claims of skin moisturising and protection in no way suggest to me they are gimmicks - the product really does work! I am more than happy using this aftershave balm and would recommend it to anyone looking for such a product.
Having discovered that a beard is not a look I can carry off, rather a few days growth soon looks like a tabby cat has been squashed against my face, I'm now resigned to the fact that I will always have to shave as a minimum every other day and really I need to shave every day. Also I find that a wet shave is the only real way to effectively shave, I have yet to find an electric shaver that can do a closer shave no matter what the adverts might claim.
Normally my skin is fine after a wet shave as I tend to shave while under the shower thanks to a conveniently placed mirror however occasionally I do get some irritation and this is where a shaving balm comes into its own. I'm currently using the Nivea for Men sensitive balm. Unlike the Dooyoo picture mine comes in a white box and inside there is a white bottle with a screw top lid. The first time I used this I did get caught out as without really paying attention I expected a small aperture for the balm to come out of however that is not the case, once you take the lid off the whole top of the bottle is open hence you have to be very careful when tipping it up otherwise you will be left with hands covered in the white balm.
The balm is alcohol free and is meant to be a neutral fragrance however it does have an odour and for me this is the big negative for this product as to be honest the smell reminds me of my grandmother as it has that slightly musty, clinical smell to it. I have to say, with no disrespect meant to Gran, that it is not the most pleasant of smells. Fortunately it is not that strong and easily masked with a little aftershave so after you have applied it then it is no longer noticeable unless you do not use aftershave. Then you will be able to detect it as I rubbed a little on my wrist and after a couple of hours there was still a feint smell.
On the plus side it does do a very good job at protecting your skin against inflammation and irritation. I have also found it very easy to apply, you only need a small amount and it absorbs really easily into your skin without being greasy or oily. The balm contains Chamomile, Vitamin E and Provitamin B5 and these do have a soothing effect on your skin. In addition the product does help to moisturise your skin which does help to keep it smooth feeling.
I certainly did not notice any markedly improved visual impacts from using this balm, it will not make you look younger or anything like that, having said that when you look as good as I do who cares, however it does do a good job at reducing any post shave irritation which is the main point of using this product. I have found that it is very gentle on my skin and there have been no adverse reaction to using it.
I paid £5.99 for a 100ml bottle at Superdrug. Personally I'm happy to use the remainder of the bottle however I'm not sure that this is something that I would buy again mainly because of the slightly unpleasant smell that it has.
Thanks for reading and rating my review.
As a fella with very sensitive skin, I used to have just two choices:
Stubble Or Shaving Rash.
Simple as that.
Then I discovered this wonderful product from Nivea that does the job it promises, which is to minimise razor burn, soreness and shaving rashes.
The milky white liquid is easily absorbed into the skin, so much better than some of the gloopy gels available. Also it's alcohol free and has a very subtle fresh fragrance that is pleasant on the nose.
Formulated with Chamomile, Vitamin E & Provitamin B5, it's very soothing on the skin when applied after a wet shave and leaves it feeling soft and smooth for a good few hours.
It's been dermatologically approved on men with sensitive skin and in my opinion gives superior, fast and effective results than most of the higher priced alternatives that I've tried in the past.
I paid £5.99 for a 100ml bottle. This actually included a tube of Nivea extra soothing moisturiser as part of a promotion at Wilkinson. So keep 'em peeled for offers like these.
A bottle lasts me approximately two months as you only need a small amount to do the job. So considering this and the fact that it really works, I think that it's most definitely excellent VFM and I recommend it to anyone else who is fed up with feeling the burn after every close shave.
I am really a bit of brand committed person, and do not tend to experiment with my does, aftershaves and perfumes. In fact whenever I go to my regular buying spots they scarcely ask what brand they will provide as for those toiletries and generally fish out the stuff the moment I ask for my does, after shaves, blades... The only Nivea product I use is the Nivea for men, the five in one for men.
I don't switch my brands for the simple reason I belive that what suits you better why change it. One pertinent reason for this is that I am a but allergic and I have got a very sensitive skin. I do have use a disinfictant. I am prone to barber's itch and specially after shaving I suffer from burning sensation, redness and irritation - persisting for quite some time, even after using aftershaves and then it recedes on its own gradually, but I have asked lot of my friends about the continuation of irritation even after applying the aftershave. But their experience is, it recedes immediately after applying the after shaves. What I thought is that it couldn't be got ridden off and I accepted it as one of things which you can help but accept. And I also have severe problem of acmes which is sometimes very painful and of course embarrassing because it leaves out scars. Naturally I have to use something to prevent acmes also.
In winter I have had problems with exploded or cracked lips, a lip gel is enough for that. But an additional component, definitely it is!.
So just check out the things I need for protection against burning after a shave, disinfection, moisturizing, acme and its scars protection, exploded lips in winter.
Since I am a person who hurries things a little bit the ease of what I use is very important also.
After office hoarse and during holidays, we, some selected friends and office colleagues usually gather around a spot and bide our time discussing politics, sports, the latest sexy starlets, for that matter everything under the earth. Generally there are guys who get hooked to the TV when time permit. A participants of our leisure joint is one of those TV addicts and he mentioned a commercial of Nivea for men after shave balm. Since one of my committed brand is Nivea, I thought to give this product a try. I must say I have not selected a wrong product in choosing Nivea for men aftershave balm
After using it the first day I realized that the burning sensation and irritations after shaving receded noticeably quickly, I was very satisfied. Allantoin, the anti-irritant works perfectly. In fact it gives you such cool sensation mainly because of the presence of Bisabolol and Calendula. The Vitamin E content in this aftershave balm enriches and nourishes your skin, the fun of it is rub it and there it vanishes immediately.
But what amazed and surprised me is the fact that acmes became less frequent and in few days time I had the acme scars vanishing. I was amazed, because I had not been using the scar removing and anti-acme stuff, as they were unavailable for certain period. Naturally the logical calculation is that the Nivea for men aftershave balm did the trick. I deviated from my habit and decided to experiment a bit and used it with some apprehension on my exploded lips, dear, dear it worked wonderfully. But the commercial never claimed this. I don't know whether it's a stray incident, those who read this review, would you please check this property ?
Now at face value £7 for 100ml does seem quite expensive. I have calculated (now I can do away with three products), its is cheap. I don't know whether the success of the product that I ENJOYED is just an individual and stray incident, but I have doubts. My gut feeling is that it will work with every body.
But I must say that one of the severe draw back of it is the packaging, the bottle is made of glass, the ease of use is restricted. I have every doubt that some day I might hear a c-l-u-n-k and land up spending £14, does it then remain cheap? So a food for thought it must be for the R&D guys over there at Nivea lab. Is there any technical reason ? Or is purely commercial ? I don't know !
So to sum it up it works far better compared to its moisturizing, cooling and anti-irritant effects with the one I was using and the neutral fragrance, well (if you don't mind me using the term), it is sexy.
SOME FEATURES WORTH MENTIONING.
a. Better moisturizing effect, leaves you fresh.
b. Excellent neutral fragrance (which partly means it does have a smell but it does not mask other fragrances)
c. Helps removing acmes scars and prevents acme to some extent (be cause acme is also associated with the nature of skin and food habits).
d. Mends cracked or exploded lips during winter.
e. Gives you freshness and it gives you a soothing effect.
I must say a very impressive product.

I bought Nivea Post Shave balm after I had enough of the post shave problems of shaving such as redness, itchiness and generally awkward skin. It was actually the first product I tried to combat this problem and I can tell you now I won't need to try any others.
You only need to rub your hands with a bit of the white goo and the results will be great. You wont get that annoying redness and itchiness which can last quite a while.
The product comes in a great bottle that easy to open and close so it can be used quickly and put back when finished.
This is a product that actually works and does what its supposed to. It will get rid of the redness and itchiness that always occured to me after shaving. I would recommend this product to anyone and I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed. The product has a slight smell but even that smell is good and is hardly there. It is also free of alcohol if that matters to you.
This stuff is fantastic! No matter how close a shave you have, or how blunt your razor blade is, it soothes your skin no end! It's quite runny stuff, not like the sticky globby stuff that Gilette come up with, you just put a teaspoon full in your palm and massage it gently into your face and voila goodbye razor burn!
It actually smells quite fragrant too you know, unlike other brands which just make your face smell like chemicals! This stuff does wonders for your fragrance and skin.
The only down side is the price, as with all Nivea products you must pay a premium for it and a 100ml bottle of this is somewhere around the £4 mark, occasionally more! But......in France it is significantly cheaper, so whenever I pop over to France I stock up in the pharmacie where it's usually around Euro4 which when the rate is good is £2.80-3.00!
Extra mild Nivea for Men After Shave Balm is especially formulated to minimise razor burn, soreness and shaving rashes / Quickly absorbed, alcohol free and fragrance neutral, it soothes and calms the most sensitive skin
