I enrolled at the NEC last year and I asked if it were possible to do my French AS and A2 Level to sit both exams at the same time, I was told yes (on the phone I just felt as if they wanted to get my money). It is awful, the teaching was basically non-existent, you send off your work to a 'tutor' mine was horrifically rude, would correct things with sentences that were overly long and complicated and would mark me down for not using things that I hadn't covered yet. If ever I emailed him asking for help with something he would refer me to a page in the book and not at all answer my question. Eventually I got a private tutor who found so many mistakes in the NEC work, who would listen to the tutor's feedback with me and also find him rude, condescending and as if he wanted to show off his level of French rather than actually help me. They "prepare" you for exams with OCR and I can only guess that their modules and advice were not relevant as I ended up getting awful grades for my AS and failing my A2, I went to a uni interview, who seemed to think I had a good level of French (I can only thank my tutor) and the only reason they could think that I did so badly on my A levels was the preparation. Any time I tried to contact NEC I felt like the people on the phone were rude, and they basically don't care about you once you hand your money over. Also the price you pay doesn't include your books or exams. The exams are very costly. I understand this isn't ideal for everyone but I can only recommend getting a personal tutor that you can actually sit down with and talk to, get the books do the work and enter yourself for the exams privately, you may as well.
I'm currently studying a management course with the National Extension College. I have already received two certificates and am now working towards a diploma in management. It's a great way to study if you have a family as you can work when you want to.My company paid for the fees so that helped !I never used to write these reviews but then I read a bad review about my favourite restaurant so now when I receive good service I let people know. This is the first time I've put a review on this website though.
I payed for a course from this website, The website was very easy to use and understand plus there is a helpline number/email you can ring which i found her very helpfull. The course cost me £208 but i saved about £50 discount buying online, If you don't want to pay up front you can pay a deposit and monthly installments, You also need to buy a book to help you learn with the course but you can get it from internet for next to nothing. =) I recieved my course materials a week or so later, In my package there was my course, a student hand book and a welcome pack. The welcome pack and student hand book has alot of information about the course and what you need to do to study and apply for exams. etc. I have never contacted her but you get your own tutor to send your assignments to but to my knowledge your only allowed to contact her twice per assignment so doing this course you don't benefit from having a tutor like you would at college but they do have an online forum where you can contact other students studying your course and maybe get your self a study buddy that you can email, the forum is very straight forward and people on there are mainly looking for help anyways so there's plent of people to chat too. You only have a course tutor for up to 2 years but you can take your exam which ever year you feel like, Benefits of the course is that you can do it as you want and when you want instead of having certain days but it is probley best to stick to a routine otherwise it is very hard to get into once you get out of it. I did find that researching and buying my own books helped with the course and you can get them next to nothing on the internet. You have to ring your exam board to give you a list of places where you can take your exam and depening on where you live this could be really hard and you have to arrange everything yourself, I am not sure how much the exam fee's are. The qualifications you get are all reconized as the ones you'd get at a local college, NEC have alot of courses on offers, GCSE'S, A levels. etc... If you have the stamina and you are willing to stick to a course and do it on your own i would deffinatly recomend the course but if you don't think you'd find time to do it and be able to stick to a routine the course is not for you.
I recently payed for a Psychology course from this website, The website was very easy to use and understand, When i rung them for information they was really helpfull. The Psychology AS level cost me £208, saving around £50 discount online, You also have to buy a book to go with this but i found it on amazon for £18. =) You can also pay a deposit and then pay monthly installments for your course. I received my course materials a few days later, Included was my course (obviously) a student hand book, welcome pack, etc. I found that everything included was very helpfull, you even get your own tutor to send assignments too but to my understanding your only allowed to contact her twice per assignment. I am an average student and i am finding this very easy to folow, they also have an online forum where you can contact other people, maybe get yourself a study buddy, thats what i am doing now. =) You can do your course whenever wherever you want, You have aslong as you want to take your exam if this is what you wish to do, but you only have your course tutor for 2 years, I found that buying other books for my course was very helpfull too. The only downfall to this is that you have to find your own exam board and i am finding this very difficult as i only live in a small town far away from cambridge but your exam board will give you a list of places that you may take your exams, all you have to do is contact them yourselfs. They are all reconised qualifications, as you would get if you went to a local college, Nec offer a wide variety of choices GCSE's, A levels, accountancy, childcare, health and fitness. etc. If anyone has any questions about this course and want information from the horses mouth just email me =)
