Dolmio® Pasta Bake Tomato & Cheese ~~The brand~~ Dolmio is a food brand which makes pasta sauces in a range of packaging, there are express packets which can be microwaved in minutes, jars which are mainly used for pasta bakes, stir-ins that you add to cooked pasta and heat through on the hob, my Dolmio the kids range and the newest addition Pasta vista; a ready-made pasta meal which can be cooked in the microwave in 90 seconds. Dolmio is a brand which prides its self on bringing good quality Italian sauces to British dinner tables and making it convenient to make good food in minutes. ~~The Product Range~~ Dolmio have a collection of four sauces in their pasta bake range these are; tomato and cheese, roasted Mediterranean vegetables, carbonara and creamy tomato. I have tried all off these bar the roasted Mediterranean vegetables; I do have one in my cupboard though waiting to be tried! All the sauces which I have tried have been delicious and we regularly have them in our kitchen cupboards! ~~The Product~~ I am a big pasta fan and all things Italian and my husband with his job requires a lot of physical activity, so I therefore try to give him carbohydrates where ever is possible to keep him going. We therefore consume a lot of pasta dishes so when I saw these jars I had to try them. Convenience is going to be a big factor in food purchases soon as in the next couple of months; with our first baby on the way, my business and my studies time is going to be pretty tight, knowing I have sauces like these available is brilliant as I am able to still make good, tasty meals for me and my husband in a small amount of time. The packaging features the iconic green logo, with a picture of a pasta bake on the label. The lid is coordinated with the logo, a nice bright green which is noticeable on the shelves. The jars made from glass which is clear to allow for the product to be seen clearly, the products colour is what you would expect for a tomato pasta sauce, it is a rich shade of red and makes the product even more prevalent on the shelves at the supermarket. The jar contains 500g of sauce and holds enough sauce to feed three people. The recommended serving is four per jar but I find that if you have good portions it only really feeds three people which I find is about right for our household as there are only two of us and instead of wasting the third portion my husband has it for his lunch the next day. Taste is the highlight of the product; it's rich and smooth and makes bland pasta taste fantastic in seconds! The ingredients are free from artificial additives which ensure me that the product is made from good quality ingredients and the taste is not created by chemicals and the like. The main ingredients in the sauce are tomatoes, parmesan cheese, tomato sauce and onions they combine together beautifully to create a great tasting product. To maximise the flavour of the sauce before I put the pasta into the oven I add grated cheese to create a nice crispy top on the pasta. The pasta bake takes 20 minutes to cook at gas mark 6, you add cooked pasta to an oven proof dish and add the sauce until the pasta is completely covered and then place the dish on the middle shelf to avoid the cheese from burning. If you don't like purely vegetarian meals then you could add tuna or meat to create a more filling dish, I like to use ham in mine as the salt from the ham really comes out in the cooking process and adds a lot to the dish. Each 125g portion of the sauce contains one of your five a day. There are 70 calories per serving which is only 4% of the recommended daily intake for an adult, I think this is great as personally I would have expected more from a pre-made sauce. The salt is a bit high at 0.9grams which is 15% of your daily recommended intake; I therefore would recommend that you refrain from adding additional salt. Another, great highlight of this product is that per serving it only contains 1.5grams per serving which is a tiny 2% of your recommended allowance. The prices as of writing (29/05/12) are as followed: Tesco: £1.99 or any 2 FOR £3.50 Valid until: 12/06/2012 Asda: £1.92 Sainsbury's: £1.99 Ocado: £1.99 Prices gathered from www.mysupermarket.co.uk I think the price is right for the product as it makes a full meal for three or four people and can be consumed on its own with plain pasta which can be picked up in supermarkets for under £1 for a good size packet. Overall, I would recommend this product due to its delicious taste and convenience. It is definitely a must have for all kitchen cupboards and a product which the whole family can enjoy together.
the Dolmio pasta bake comes in a large glass jar with clear packaging witch reads Dolmio pasta bake tomato and cheese and on the back of the jar there is clear easy to understand instructions on how make the pasta bake so when i brought the pasta bake to try i cooked it according to the instructions on the back of the jar and i waited in anticipation while it was cooking in my oven for 30minutes so when the 30minutes was up i removed it from the oven and i waited for it to cool down for 5 or 6 minutes once it cooled down i dug my spoon in and starting serving the pasta bake for me and my family when i tried it i liked it it is nice and thick and it has a nice tomato taste but the taste of the tomato is not to strong it is just right and the sauce is nice and thick it is very nice
It's pay day for us on Monday, which means that it's that time of the month where we search the store cupboards and knock up something with whatever we can find. I found some wholegrain spaghetti, a block of cheese (that was actually in the fridge to be fair ;-)) and this jar of cheese and tomato flavoured Dolmio pasta bake. I followed the instructions on the jar, boiled up my pasta, drained it, laid it out in an ovenproof dish and stirred the sauce through. I then grated cheese - far, far too much cheese but I'm pregnant - and sprinkled it over the top. I then put it in the oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes until the cheese was melted. And it was delicious. 250g of pasta made 2 nights worth of dinners for my partner and I. And I must admit, it tasted even better on the second night. The sauce is very creamy and has some onions and herbs through it. It's not overwhelmingly salty, unlike some pasta sauces on the market. It is not overpoweringly cheesy either. It's quite pale in colour and quite thick in consistency. As I say, it was languishing at the back of my store cupboard so i can't remember how much it cost unfortunately. I used spaghetti as that was all I had available but you could use any pasta to make this bake. I suppose you could also add tuna and on the back of the jar there was a handy recipe suggestion involving chicken. I would definitely recommend this sauce to the economically challenged a couple of days before payday for a quick, hearty and filling meal.
I absolutely love pasta bake, and when I left home my mum would always make it when I went to visit. There's just something extremely comforting about a hearty, wholesome dish of pasta with gorgeous tomato based sauce with cheese melted on top. Mmmmm..... I consider myself to be a bit of a pasta bake connoisseur (well, it's cheaper than wine!), having tried pretty much every brand available. My friend and I now take it in turns to go round to each other's houses for tea, and we always make pasta bake because it's so scrummy, but also it's something you can just shove in the oven and not worry about which makes it very sociable when we're trying to have a good old chinwag. At full price, there are cheaper versions of pasta bake which all do a similar job. This one is around the £2 mark for a 500g jar which it claims serves 4 people. In fairness, I think if you were expecting this to serve a family you'd bulk it out with chicken or tuna and maybe some veg, and serve with garlic bread. The recipe on the back of the jar does use chicken, but as there's normally only two people eating this we just use it with pasta on its own with a bit of cheese melted on top (fridge contents permitting). The pasta bake is easy enough to make - the instructions tell you to cook the pasta first, then put the pasta and sauce into an ovenproof dish and bake in the oven for around 40 minutes. It's not the quickest of meals but you can leave it in the oven and not worry about it, unless you want to add cheese which is usually done about 20 minutes from the end of the cooking time. Personally, I don't mind that it takes a bit longer because I usually whack it in the oven when I get home, then I get chance to get changed, tidy up a bit, catch up with my other half etc, before serving it up. Personally, having used many pasta bake sauces, I don't bother cooking the pasta first, but instead put it in with the sauce from the start. This cooks the pasta through and just skips a step (and saves on dirty dishes!) so I would recommend just doing this. I love the taste of this sauce, it's proper comfort food. It tastes of tomatoes as you'd expect, and is quite creamy. I don't really notice the cheese flavour coming through overly strong though so I always add my own cheese towards the end to melt on top. You do have to wait until the sauce dries up a bit otherwise it's a bit watery and thin, but if you have the patience to wait until the recommended cooking time it should become quite thick and complement the pasta nicely. Nutritionally, this pasta bake isn't too bad for you, and actually contains one of your five a day! Per 100g there are 56kcals, 1.2g fat, 0.7g saturates, 6.7g sugars and 0.74g salt. I always check the nutritional value of sauces that come in jars because there is quite a difference between brands, and if you're feeding this to your family as a lazy tea you don't need to feel guilty about it. I've just checked on the Tesco website and these are currently on offer 3 jars for £5.00. This includes other sauces in the Dolmio range so to get the healthier convenience option it's definitely worth stocking up.
I can never be bothered to make a pasta sauce from scratch and when I do it never tastes as good as ready made ones! I have tried other brands like lloyd grossman, jamie oliver etc... but i love dolmio the most! I find they are really tasty and buy lots of different flavours, and the little pots for 1 or 2 people. The Dolmio pasta bake come in a large glass jar with a green screw lid and dont forget you can recycle the glass jar! Once you open the jar there is a strong smell of cheesy tomatoes and looks a rich, thick and creamy sauce. It's very easy to use, just cook your pasta and pour however much sauce you want over the pasta (usually the whole jar) mix it well and then transfer into a large baking dish. You can add other bits in with it, veg, meat, mozzarella etc... I like to grate some cheese on top. Then you pop it in the oven at about 200c for 20-30mins until it looks crispy on top. Serve with garlic bread and some salad- a great and tasty meal! The main ingredient is of course tomatoes (75%) but other ingredients include onions, cheese, sugar, white wine, modified maize starch, salt, basil, white wine vinegar and garlic. I also find this sauce is lower in fat than other pasta sauces it contains per 100g: 56Kcal 2.1g protein 6.7g sugar 1.2g fat A 500g jar cost £2.04 currently and are sometimes on offer for either 2 for £3 or 2 for £4 depending on supermarket.
Dolmio don't just do bolognase sauces any more, they also do Pasta Bakes, and I actually enjoy them quite a bit, and one of my favorite flavours that they do is the Tomato and Cheese flavour. The Dolmio pasta bake range comes in the same style jars you would find their bolognase and lasagne sauces in, but the label has a picture of a cooked pasta bake on and says Pasta Bake in large green letters under the Dolmio logo. These are available in most major supermarkets now, in many flavours, and usually cost around £1.60 a jar. I at first thought this was quite expensive, but I found that this covers a whole large meal for four people, so it works out at good value for money. The Tomato and Cheese flavour is very nice, and was the first one I tried out of the Dolmio range. It has a very thick texture, and you can see the nice large lumps of tomato throughout the sauce. The sauce is nice and rich, with a lovely blend of herbs and spices that make the sauce taste wonderful. I believe the cheese is marscopone cheese, and it has a perfect blend of it with the tomato. It is not so strong that it over powers the flavor of the sauce, but not so weak that you can not taste it at all. As I said before, the sauce covers enough pasta for 4 people, and it is really easy to use. After cooking and draining the pasta, just pour the sauce over the pasta, stir it in well and place in an oven dish. Top with grated cheese, and pop into the oven for about 15 - 20 minutes. Then you have a yummy dish, that I find goes great with a nice salad or a piece of chicken. A great family meal, that goes down well with everyone. I recommend this pasta bake to everyone, as I really can not find anything wrong with it what so ever.
DOLMIO PASTA BAKE TOMOTO AND CHEESE This is very handy to have in the cupboard a it I very versatile to use. Very quick meal and good value and there are four generous portions which you can make. When I use this I often put mince with this I cook the mince for about 10-15 minutes in the oven first with a tomotoe sauce and mixed vegetables often I would add a Mediterranean style mix vegetables to this but really any would do. Place this in the oven. Then prepare the pasta if you are using dry pasta just cook for about 8 minutes then drain. Take out the mince from oven then transfer the pasta from saucepan onto the top of the mince topped with grated cheese and place bake in the oven for a further 15-20 minutes. Once it is cooked serve on to plates with a salad. There is so many options you can just have it without mince on its own or try adding chicken or tuna . There are so many ideas from just one jar of Pasta Bake Sauce. . The sauce made from tomatoes which are plump and mascarpone this combination makes it really creamy. On the jar it claims there are 75% of tomatoes , 3% of mascarpone and parmesan cheese used. The taste is very smooth and you can actually taste the full flavour of the tomatoes and cheese great combination. The cost for a 500g jar is around £1.70 There are no artificial colours and flavouring used
If your a pasta lover then dolmio is for you! Dolmio products come in jars , pots , sachets etc. There is a wide range of different sauces :cheese and tomato pasta bake , creamy pasta bake. The one which I would seriously reccommend is the 'medditaranian (not sure how to spell it! pasta bake sauce! It includes vegetables such as Courgettes and tomatoes. The vegetables in it taste really fresh , in fact all the dolmio products taste like a sauce you've home made. The sauces are also really healthy. Some of them even contain 1 of your 5 reccommended potions of daily fruit and veg.You can buy dolmio products from all supermarkets. They come in small or large jars which I think is good , because sometimes when I buy a large jar I don't end up using all of it , and then it has to be used within 3 days and within that time I've forgetten I've got it in the fridge. But if your cooking for a family then the large jars are really good value for money because they can be added to loads of pasta. The large jars usually cost around the £2 mark which is good value in my opinion. It's not also cheap , but really quick and easy to make as well! On each jar there contains a recipe of how you could use dolmio. My favourite dolmio is simple but really delicious! I cook 200g of pasta (I tend to choose wholegrain because it's better for you because of it's high fibre content) when the pasta has cooked i stir in a few spoonfls of dolmio , usually the medditeranian one because its my all time favourite , and then sprinkle cheddar cheese on it , i then pop it in the oven until the cheese has melted. It's so conveniant! Great after a hard day at work when you don't feel like spending the evening in the kitchen! I love this product soo much I'm going to give it a huge 10/10! Thanks for reading! xd-o-n-z-x
I have been a fan of Dolmio products for many years and over those years, I have tried out most of their range. I absolutely love pasta, but I don't feel confident about making my own sauces from scratch. Dolmio sauces are great quality and they taste great, so I am more than happy to use their pasta bake sauces in my meals. Dolmio Tomato & Cheese Pasta Bake comes in a glass jar, with a metal screw top lid, which is vacuum sealed for freshness. When you unscrew the lid, it 'pops' open and the first thing you notice is the rich smell of tomatoes, closely followed by the smell of cheese. I love the combination of tomato and cheese with pasta and really don't think it can be beaten. It is very easy to use and all I do is cook my pasta, place it in a casserole dish and mix my sauce through it. I also add some chicken style Quorn and some extra cheese on top. Pop it in the oven on Gas Mark 5 for about half an hour. It should come out piping hot and the extra cheese will have melted into the dish, adding even more flavour. The pasta bake sauce is lovely and thick and has noticeable pieces of tomato and basil in it, which make it look and taste like a quality product. The tomato is very smooth and rich and the cheese is quite strong and sharp, but not overly so. The flavours work very well together and balance each other out nicely. *Ingredients* Tomatoes (75%), Tomato Paste, Onions, Cheese (Parmesan, Mascarpone) (3%), Sugar, White Wine, Modified Maize Starch, Salt, Basil, White Wine Vinegar, Acid (Lactic Acid), Garlic This product is free from artificial colours and flavours. *Nutritional Value Per 100g* Energy - 56 kcal Protein - 2.1g Carbohydrate - 9.1g of which sugars - 6.7g Fat - 1.2g of which saturates - 0.7g Fibre - 1.2g Sodium - 0.29g Salt Equivalent - 0.74g 1 serving = 1/5 of your daily intake of fruit and vegetables recommended by nutritionalists. Dolmio Tomato & Cheese Pasta Bake is available from Tesco in a 500g jar for £1.56 This is a lovely sauce, but I have noticed it does not state that this is suitable for vegetarians. It seems that parmesan has animal products in it. I really must start reading labels better, as I had no idea that a tomato and cheese pasta bake sauce would have any animal products in it. If you are not a vegetarian, this is well worth buying. It is good value for such a quality sauce, is very easy to use and tastes great. I guess I'll have to learn to make, some pasta sauces from scratch after all!
I find pasta bake a filling and quick meal for the whole family. Having such young children I find it hard to find the time to make a full cooked meal all week. I used to have the home pride make of pasta bake and have recently changed to the Dolmio range because it was on a special deal. I am glad that I have changed because I find it better than the other one. I use the creamy tomato flavour the most often. This has no artificial colourings and flavourings which is great when I am feeding my children. It holds 131 calories so I find that it is a very healthy meal for the family too. The sauce is an orange colour which is very smooth and covers the pasta very well. I do not add anything to my pasta bakes apart from pasta because my children can be quite fussy. If I am going to cook it for just me and my partner I will be trying to add some chicken to make a bigger meal for us. The jar is 500g and I use about 6 handfuls of pasta for my meal. This covers the pasta well and gives lots of taste to the meal. This will feed 4 of us with a salad added to the side of my meal. The ingredients in this jar are tomatoes, fresh cream, lemon juice, onions, sunflower oil, tomato paste, white wine, butter oil powder (butter oil, glucose syrup, lactose, milk protein) sugar, modified maize starch, salt, cheese (parmesan) basil, white wine vinegar, bouillon (contains celery), spices and herbs. There are some chunky bits of tomatoes and onions and you can see some green herbs in the jar too. All these ingredients give the meal a strong tomato flavour. This is not suitable for lactose intolerant people or people who have a gluten deficiency. The cooking instructions are easy to understand. You cook 250g of pasta and place it in an oven proof dish, pour over the sauce and oven bake for 20 minutes. I add cheese to the top of mine and let it melt and brown to give it some added texture and taste. There is so much more that you can add to this meal like chicken or other meat or even some more tomatoes if you wish. There are two recipes on the back one that is the basic meal that I do and one that is with some added extras which gives you an idea of what ingredients you need. My children are not keen on the cheese being added so I cook theirs in the sauce and dish it up and add a salad to the side. The interesting information that I have found out about this product is that each serving is 1/5 of the daily intake of recommended fruit and vegetables. I like this fact because I try to ensure that my children and I get everything we need for our health. The other interesting information is that once this is opened you are able to refrigerate it for 3 days if you are not using the whole jar or pour it into a suitable container and freeze it so that it will last longer. This is good because the jar is too big for one person and you are able to use it again which makes 2 very cheap and easy meals. They have a customer care line and address for you to contact if you have any feedback which is a very personal touch and also have a web page that you can visit. I like this pasta bake because it is full of flavour, I find it very healthy and think that it is full of goodness for the whole family. I find that it is a thick very tasty sauce that complements a meal. The fact that you can add your own ingredients is very good and is able to be adapted to your tastes. It is a suitable sized jar to feed a family of 4 and is easy to open and easy to cook. I think the ingredients that are used a very complimentary and all my children enjoy this meal. I find this sauce the best one that I have tried yet.
