      A great panini maker

Yum, I love paninis and wanted a way to make them at home. I must eat 3-4 a week at Starbucks, I confess.

I looked on the Internet and saw this one at John Lewis, with a 5 year guarantee and it was £50 and it looked good to me so I ordered and it was delivered the next day and we had paninis for tea!

Starting with the aesthetics, this is a great looking product, we do keep it in a cupboard but if you were to keep it on the counter top, it looks good. It is a shiny stainless steel with a steel bendy spring at the back where the two parts of the maker join, this allows different thicknesses of bread, roll or panini as the springs adjust to accommodate the contents! It is also joined with two hinges each end.

The plates are grooved which is good for catching cheese and for cleaning, it also means the paninis get a lovely chargrilled look with lines on them.

The dial is manual and black plastic so it keeps cool, there are two lights, one comes on when you are heating the machine which only takes max 3 minutes to get to temperature and then the green light comes on and goes off when the panini is complete, dependent on which setting you out it on. There are 6 different settings. The book explains these, but the higher number the longer it grills. You would need a longer setting for heating meat or with a very thick panini.

You can use it for grilling peppers or steak also. As a veggie, I haven't tried steak but have grilled peppers and courgettes which worked well. It was a bit harder to clean than with a panini as there was more liquid from their contents.

You can use normal bread for a toasted sandwich, panini rolls, bread rolls. It works well with all.

It is very easy to clean, the plates are non stick.

It hasn't stopped me visiting Starbucks but they come a close second!
