Having owned a real Henry for years I decided to buy one of these for my little boy (who still finds our bigger one too "heavy" to help with!) After looking through all the major brands of toy vacuum cleaners, we decided to go for a little toy Henry.
It's a toy vacuum cleaner made by Casdon, with a wind up lead, it comes apart to store the little dustpan and brush. It also has a battery compartment, should you wish it to make a sucking sound (we didnt use this function) But apparently it is very realistic sounding. The tubes and vacuum parts come in a cuboid box, and need to be put together before play
Our real Henry is a very good quality British made item. I was disappointed however, when the toy one arrived and it felt like it was going to break just putting it together - let alone the normal abuse from a toddler tornado! The tubes kept on falling apart and the whole unit would just pop apart if knocked! After looking into these, they are not manufactured in the same British firm as our big Henry - but rather in the Far East. I'm surprised Numatic have even let this company use their product!
After using the toy a few times my toddler became bored with it, the suction plus didn't work well, and the lead would just pull out. The tubes came apart and because he struggled to put them back in himself, he would get highly irritated - the same when the unit popped open.
Conclusion - I wouldn't recommend this item to anyone, it's such a shame as the real Henry is such a source of joy for many children, this just doesn't live up to his standards at all.
When my son was younger he used to love to *help* me with the housework . He was particularly interested in the vacuum cleaner and so when I spotted a little henry in our local toy department,I bought one for him. I really cant remember how much I paid but am sure it was less than the £20 I see this toy seems to sell for these days!
Little Henry is made by Casdon and is a replica of the *real thing*. The unit is made of red and black plastic and has a happy face on the front.Lift the hat and discover a dust pan and brush and joint together hose with T shaped nozzle. The cord cab be reeled in by twisting the lid at the top. Henry requires 3 AA batteries and will then make a low humming sound when in action!
This little cleaner was happily received by my son. It is recommended for children from aged 3 .The main unit is 25.5 cm tall,so a good size for little ones. My son really enjoyed pulling Henry around whist *cleaning* the floors. He also liked opening and closing the lid and I would often find a few toy cars stored inside! It looks very realistic and the sound is also similar to a real cleaner in action, although not as loud thankfully!
However this is not a very robust toy! The first complaint is that the hoses don't stay locked together. In the end I taped them together and this solved the problem. The instruction leaflet claimed that this little cleaner would really suck up dirt! There is even a pull out dirt collection tray at the front of the unit. However there is no suction and it certainly doesn't pick up anything! The on/off switch is positioned at the bottom of the cleaner and is awkward for little fingers to operate. My son is careful with his toys and was disappointed when the hose snapped at the bottom after just a few months of play.
Overall this is a fun toy and a good replica of the real thing. However it is not very robust and clearly has design faults!
