On a recent trip back to Grimsby, I went out to eat more than I usually would. On the Saturday, I headed into town for drinks and some food at The Yarborough Hotel, which is actually a Wetherspoons branch. The Yarborough Hotel can be found right near Grimsby Train Station so it is in the perfect location if you have had a long journey or need to go somewhere easily with cases. Having grown up in Grimsby, I have always thought of this branch of Wetherspoons as 'the old man's pub'. This is because the other Wetherspoons is much trendier and livelier whereas this one is actually full of old men. However, it has a more relaxed atmosphere and doesn't play any music which is nice if you do just want to go and have a drink and a chat with friends.
As soon as you walk in the main entrance, you can see just how big this place is. The pub is split up into two floors although only so by a couple of steps. The lower part of the pub has quite a few tables although space is mostly taken up by seats around the edges of the room. As you go up the steps you see the first bar and just past this is another bar and another room full of tables. The Yarborough Hotel has so much seating in comparison to the other Wetherspoons which is probably why it is so popular.
Since I last came here, the menus have changed and for the better. Each table has a menu on it and you have to go up to the bar to order your food and drinks. The menu is so much better than it used to be although it is still very much a pub food menu. The Yarborough Hotel opens at 8am every day so it is open for breakfast. However, it is the main meals and sharing dishes which have been revamped. The Yarborough Hotel serves the basic burger as well as things like a full rack of ribs, salads and sandwiches. We decided to go for one of the new sharing platters (The Wetherspoon Sharer) as we didn't want to eat too much. For £8.09, this included chicken wings, chicken strips, onion rings, battered shrimp and chips.
Service at the The Yarborough Hotel was fantastic. Even though the pub was extremely busy, after placing our order it only took 10 minutes for our food to arrive. Even though this is a sharing platter, we didn't get given any plates so we had to ask for these. All of the food was nice and hot and looked very appetising on the plate. I don't eat shrimp so cannot comment on what this tasted like but the rest was all lovely. For the price, I think we got really good value for money and there was enough food for the three of us without us fighting for more of anything.
As you would expect from a Wetherspoons, the drinks are also pretty cheap. We were having rounds of two VK's and a pint of Fosters and this came to around £6 which isn't bad for a round at all. As the drinks aren't overly expensive, it is quite possible to sit here for hours if you're paying for yourself only and barely spend £20. This Wetherspoons in particular serves a whole range of cask ales if you're into that sort of thing too.
Compared to the other times I have been here, nothing much has changed in regards to how the pub actually looks but the food menu is a hell of a lot better than I can ever remember it being.

=== First Impressions ===
The yarborough hotel isn't somewhere I would usually go, for no reason I've just always by passed it. Apparently a few years back this used to be the place to be and was all posh and swanky and a really nice hotel located across from Grimsby town train station so it was easy for travelers to find a place to stay, I've now just been informed that it isn't a hotel but there was people living there but not swanky people like it used to be. However the pub/restaurant is located on the ground floor and I've never gone in because I assumed no one went in there and never even knew it was a restaurant too. I've only been in here a few times but when walking in it's very large and open plan with a central bar with three sides to it stretching around the room with lots of staff working. The layout of tables suggest different areas where people like to sit to either just have a drink, to eat food or to go chill out on the sofa's. On a whole when walking in it's warm and inviting and the chairs looking comfy to sit in.
=== What to choose and ordering===
I've only ever eaten in the yarborough hotel once because we have two wetherspoons and I usually eat in the other one located on the river head, Grimsby. There are a lot of menu's on the table such as a couple of large full menu's, drinks menu drinks offer menu and since this was a Sunday there were paper Sunday sheet menu's on each table advertising their big Sunday roast dinner they had on. This didn't appeal to me but my friend and her boyfriend ordered this. I went for one of their other offers they had on. This is buy a gourmet burger and chips with any soft drink for £3.99 or £4.99 with an alcoholic drink. Both of our food choices had pictures of what it should look like and they both looked really appetizing. In the Yarborough hotel you have to go up to the bar and order the food, this is fine but because a lot of people go in here just to have a drink it can take a little while to be served.
=== Scrumptious food ===
The food didn't take too long to arrive, my burger was pretty simple, a burger with a little bit of salad ina bun and a side order of chips. This looked simple and I could of prepared this at home but can't knock what it is for the price of just £3.99 with a drink! I found the burger lacked in flavor after I had eaten half of it and I got bored so my friend ate it and I lathered the chips in mayonnaise and began to destroy them instead. The meal over all was nice and it isn't somewhere I would go for a proper meal but it was nice to just grab a quick lunch, shame It was boring but my friend loved finishing it.
=== Service ===
The service in here is pretty standard, always greeted with if no a smile a happy employee nonetheless which is always a good thing, they're pretty good at changing drinks around and offering different things so they certainly know their stuff! The food arrived with good time and was cleared away eagerly which is what we like to see and we were offered desserts and coffee too with we politely turned down. The staff are all very friendly and they do a lot of fundraising as a team, this year two staff members(one of thema friend of mine) are doing charity skydiving.
=== Price and offers ===
The prices are standard for a pub with pints ranging from £2-£3 but they do my favorite drink in here and that is jeagermonster, this is jeagermister and monster energy drink this sets me back by £3.10 a glass but it's so damn good I will always buy it despite it being pricey, they have good offers on food which include drinks in the price too.
=== Location and details ===
This is located directly across from Grimsby town train station and has all the shops and lots of banks surrounding it making it a perfect location to go for afternoon lunch.
