When visiting our son at university in Hackney, he recommended we all ate at this restaurant, mainly because he has a bit of a penchant for more unusual meats!

The restaurant is located near the main crossroad junction at Mile End on Grove Road in LHackney and is close to Mile End Tube station. There is free parking available at rear of restaurant from after 5.30 pm and weekends. We took advantage of this and unusually for anywhere in London, there were plenty of spaces for the car.
The restaurant is situated right on the pavement with a large menu board outside, and from the outside it looks quite cosy and welcoming especially given that a lot of the surrounding area has many neon lights and fast chicken places. Once inside we were quickly greeted by a member of staff and taken to a rectangular table where we could see part of the kitchen through an open window. The whole place doesn't have many tables but is an interesting lay out, being L shaped with the toilets at the back. The restaurant is quite dark with lots of mood lighting and dark wooden tables and chairs or leather covered benches at the walls. On the walls and on the surfaces were many cow inspired pictures and ornaments, all very modern and classy and many of which I would have liked to be able to find to take home.
The restaurant claims that it does burgers but is not a "burger joint" and does steaks but isn't a "steakhouse" The aim is apparently to bring the customer the best fresh produce and cook it in the most innovative and flavoursome ways. I believe that there are different specials every month so the menu seems to be constantlyevolving and changing. The vegetarian in our party of 4 ordered Roasted Butternut Squash with camembert, thyme & charred leeks. Which was nicely presented and although I didn't try it, it was apparently very tasty; I always find a vegetarian in a burger/steak place an enigma. My son t tried the Cajun style Crocodile served with chilli infused rice, Ribbon of courgette and salad. All very nicely presented and whilst I did expect it to be very different from other meats, it wasn't unpleasant but not something I would keep ordering because just the thought of eating crocodile makes me feel strange! I had a 6oz Wild Boar burger. Which came presented as the usual burger complete with chips and a side salad. Little Miss decided on the usual beef burger and after decideing she wanted it well done, the burger was brought over, and it was indeed a very tasty burger- good minced beef, with very little fat and a nice portion of chips. Maybe not the healthiest of meals but certainly enjoyed.
Also available but not always are thing like Kangaroo burger and 6oz Camel burger ... not sure I would try these! I wonder what they try next month...

If you are in the area it is certainly a restaurant I would recommend you visit. The meals are good portions, well presented and each one was delicious. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance and even mid week it was busy enough for there to be a good buzz about it- we weren't the only people sitting in the place. Staff are attentive and helpful, and took the time to explain the dishes and make suggestions.
For the four of us, with wine, lager and soft drinks, the meal was about £80, so not bad value for a meal of this quality and in London.

Greedy Cow is a restaurant near Mile End tube station is London. I have eaten there three times. The price has ranged from about £13 a head to £25 a head depending on what we've eaten and whether or not we've boozed.
Before I went to Greedy Cow I passed it on many occasions as it is in the area I live and I always thought it was one of those gourmet burger places. One day I had a craving for a burger so I dragged my boyfriend down there. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu as although they do have a good selection of burgers (including things like Hoisin Duck burger so not just your standard beef and chicken) it is much more than that.
The starters include oysters, soups and salads. The main courses are where they really come into their own. They have a great selection of all types off food. They have steaks, fish dishes, lamb and more unusual dishes like jambalaya and Moroccan stew. They have a burger menu that ranges from classic beef burgers to jerk chicken and the duck burger I mentioned above. They also do a wide range of side dishes.
They always have a couple of special dishes which change daily. The last time I went it was king prawns in batter as a starter and an Argentinean steak with a free glass of wine as a main. They do amazing deserts. I have only had room for the once and I had an amazing pavlova. They also have chocolate fudge cake, banoffee pie (which I want to try next) and ice cream.
As well as soft drinks that you would expect they also have a wine list with a selection of red and white wines and they do pretty god milkshakes too!
The food is pretty good. It is not the best gourmet food I have ever eaten but for the price it is excellent. I have never been disappointed.
The décor is OK. Not amazing but not horrible either. The only way I can think of to describe it is like a diner but more upmarket. But it's pretty unobtrusive really so you don't really notice it.
The service has always been good. The staff are friendly and the food arrives hot and promptly. The only very slight issue I have ever had is that once the waiter who greeted us didn't mention that the card machine wasn't working and we would have to pay in cash which meant I had to sprint to the cash point so I could pay. He apologised so profusely that I can't really hold hat against him - he's only human after all!
I wouldn't say it's worth travelling across London for but it's a place to eat if you are in the area.
