Before heading to a concert my girlfriend and I decided to grab a bite to eat and being in the Odyssey there were several choices. One of these happened to be Soda Joes, I'd eaten there before on a few occassions and the food was nice. After evaluating the options we decided to go to Soda Joes. On entering the restaurant I realised that the decor hadn't changed at all since it had opened a number of years ago. It was still laid out in booths and there were tvs playing music channels. We were seated at our table by the waitress and I was disappointed in the condition of our booth, the seat cushions were sliced open and the table clothes were worn bare and had holes in them. Not the best of starts when you go out for a meal! The menu itself was reasonably varied with a decent selection of dishes mainly the usual american diner style dishes of burgers, fried chicken etc. I opted for the rebel burger; a chicken burger covered in bacon and cheese with chips. My partner opted for a burger. When the food came I was immediately disappointed, I had ordered the exact meal before and it was and looked nice however this time it didn't look in the least bit appetising. The cheese on the burger hadn't even been left to melt as half of it was still sitting in it's original grated form while the other half had melted. After a couple of mouthfuls it was clear that I would not be leaving an empty plate. The chicken itself was obviously not freshly cooked but one of those pre-prepared microwaveable burgers. Suffice to say it was not tasty at all, the chips had also not been properly cooked. My girlfriend's burger was no better, again it was very clear that it was a processed burger both from appearance and also tasting. Again her chips were not cooked properly. She also felt abit queasy after eating only some of it. We both gave up on our food after a few mouthfuls as it just wasn't pleasant, we asked the waitress for our bill and after 10 minutes were forced to ask her again as she had forgotten. I could understand if she had forgotten because they were busy but there were only a handful of other customers in the restaurant so there was no excuse. Overall I was extremely disappointed with the food and service within Soda Joe's and I certainly won't be back in it again or recommending it to any of my friends or family. To be eating processed food for the nearly £10 a meal is not acceptable particularly when many of my favourite restaurants charge a similar price for a freshly prepared and cooked meal. I feel sorry for Soda Joe's because they used to be quite a thriving place but now it's lost most of it's business and if my experience is anything to go by it is very clear why. It seems they've tried to cut costs but lost sight of what is most important to have a successful restaurant; delicious food and good customer service!
