We regularly shop at Sainsburys on the Cheshire Oaks, the cafe is is always clean and tidy the staff there work very hard and are always pleasant to us customers. We have tried numerous meals and have always been satisfied, there fish and chips with mushy peas are really good. We have occasionally had to wait a little while in a queue but that is usually when we have been at peak times, as for waiting for our food to come after our order was put in well maybe 10mins but it freshly cooked for you. I would give Cheshire Oaks Sainsburys 10 out 10 for excellent service all round.

I eat 2 or 3 times a week at the Halifax Sainsburys cafe, went in today to find it all changed, The thing I noticed right off was how depressing it looked, this was due to the new BLACK uniforms, for gods sake Sainburys wake up!!! we need bright and cheerful as things are in the world today. you should sack whoever decided on Black and get someone from the real world to take charge.

Don't eat there. Perhaps lack of custom may shock them into taking positive action.

Tamworth Sainsburys store is a re-build with a new first floor cafe, which caters for about 100 to 150 seats.
Considering how new the store is, it's surprising how much the standards of service, quality of food and particularly cleanliness have declined.
Service takes about 15 minutes minimum, irrespective of how busy the cafe.
Food delivery is a minimum of 20 minutes from when your order is taken. Unfortunately, more often than not, the food needs to be returned as below standard.
The nail in the coffin from our point of view was week after searching for cutlery that didn't have the remnants of the previous eaters food left on it, then finally last week being served fish and chips with the hardened remnants of a previous curry found under the fish.
Complaints are pointless, they take no notice. My business goes now to Marks and Spencer's over the road.

Shame,Sainsburys need to take note, if customers stop using cafe, they may shop else where too.

Sainsburys cafe Halifax.....20 mins standing in line to order, 30 mins waiting for food to arrive. If your lucky its at best slightly warm.
No slices of toast after 11 30, toasted tea cakes yes, sliced toast - no.

Advised till staff most of sandwiches on sale were on use by date , no effort made to remove them . Prawn sandwhiches on use by date....... not good.

Plated up cake slices on counter uncovered, dry and collecting all coughs and sneezes from customers loosing will to live waiting to order.

Clear your own tables, cutlery dirty. no milk.

Signs up asking customers to eat only food bought in cafe.....so you sit and watch cafe staff eating own food out of a TESCO carrier bag.???

2 hour parking limit to sainsburys customers, means you spend most of the 2 hours trying to get your lunch
.Took my elderly mother shopping and for lunch, total shop time 45 mins , time spent trying to order, wait for and eat lunch.....1 hour and 30 mins.

Ask at customer services for a complaint form ......they have run out.... no surprise !.

      Dont waste your money!

I used to shop at Sainsburys a lot. Its not too far from my house and its always quiet in there compared to Asda and Morrisons. So one day we was in there, my boyfriend got home early from work. So we decided to give it a go in the Cafe. We hadnt been in there before, we did notice its always quite empty. But so is the shop so we didnt think anything of it. Now we understand why its always empty.

Im not too sure if its all the Sainsburys cafe's or just the one in Grantham. The staff were rude and the food was unedable. We bot had a full english all day breakfast. They were about £5 each, then he had a coke and I had a cup of tea. We had been waiting ages for our food. There was no milk for the tea and we had to esk, also there were no little spoons. It was a full blown disaster.

After waiting about 20-30 minutes for our food, in a place that was pretty much empty. Thats just crazy. The food finally came. I had chips, fried egg, beans, sausage and bacon. The chips were quite nice and so was the egg and beans. But the sausage was rock! You couldnt even put a knife through it. The bacon was also hard but I still ate it.

After eating what I could. My boyfriend went and complained, he showed the staff how hard the sausage was by hitting it on the counter. Im not normally one for complaining but it was just too bad not to say anything. The lady who cooked it came out the kitchen and asked what was wrong. She gave my partner a really dirty look. The woman on the till was much more polite and gave us a full refund for the breakfast's.

We wont ever consider going back there, as the food was disgusting. I just advise you not to go there.

We visit Sainsbury at Halifax and White Rose Leeds,in the cafe , my husband`s choice was a Panini all day breakfast, until recently. Now .for some reason, someone in their wisdom, has decided to put cheese in it.He doesn`t like cheese and I`m sure he`s not the only one and also , if you read the list of ingredients in Toasties and sandwiches, there are very few options without cheese. so as a result you`ve lost our custom and we go elsewhere. Can anyone, from the store explain this decision,or is the reason, the minoriety are not catered for because of cost?

will think twice about eating here

25 minutes wait for a jacket potato & still no sign of it , a long time for busy people who want a quick bite before doing their shopping. In the end we gave up. Took another 10 minutes to get a refund by which time the queue was getting longer . These poor people did'nt realise what was in store for them.We worked out that from the time of queing we had been in the cafe 45 minutes & had still not eaten. Wherever do they get their staff from. talk about slow & not even an apology. This is not the first time I have had cause to complain but you always think things will have improved & give them another chance. I go out of my way to shop at Sainsburys as there is not one local to us. Wht don't they read the reviews & do something about it. There ii a lot of negative feedback.

        Disadvantages

        Really disappointing experience.

I have only been to the cafe in my local Sainsburys a couple of times and I don't think I would go there again.

The food is pretty good, they have a lot of different meal options and they are all relatively cheap, the last time I was there I had fish, chips and peas, and for £5.00 it was excellent quality. They also do a lot of jacket potatoes and sandwiches.

The only real issue I have with this cafe is the time it takes to get your food. I went with my Dad and it wasn't very busy but it still took a good 20 minutes to get our meal. I know it takes a while to cook food, and I wouldn't expect it instantly but I think 20 mins is a bit too long. It might just be me, and I don't know if this is the same in all other Sainsbury's cafe's but for a supermarket where everything else is great the cafe is a real let down.

Also the staff were so miserable. I don't expect much of the staff, but the lady on the till was so moody, she just grunted at us, so I found that a bit irritating.

It's such a shame about the service in general, as the food is actually quite good, but the waiting time and the miserable staff really let it down, and I wont be going to the cafe again.

        Advantages

Grab a drink and a bite to eat after doing the shopping.

There doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day lately, on Tuesday we had to fit food shopping in between the 3.30pm school run and 6pm Beavers which meant the children had to have tea out so we decided on Sainsburys for the shopping (which isn't as expensive as I used to think) and getting something to eat in their restaurant.

After browsing the menu, my son (6 and known for being quite fussy) decided on Fish Bites, Chips and Peas, and to save arguments when the meals arrived, I ordered the same for my daughter (2) the children's meals come with a carton of Apple Juicy Water and a piece of fresh fruit of your choosing. The price of each meal was £2.29. I was really impressed with this, it's the same price as a McDonalds Happy Meal and it's 'proper' food, with a healthy drink and a piece of fruit!

My husband and I planned to have dinner later on when the kids were in bed, and were going to have a coffee but I noticed that a standard cup of coffee was £1.09 (£2.18 for the two of us) or they have an offer on 2 cream teas for £3. This included a tea/coffee, with a large scone, a mini pot of Taste the Difference strawberry conserve and a generous pot of clotted cream each.....so we went for these!

In total, for all 4 of us to have something to eat and drink it came to £7.58 (plus I picked up nectar points on my card)

The service was great, it took no longer than 10 minutes for the food to arrive. And the children's meals looked and smelt lovely, and despite the generous portions they finished most of it...was probably due to the fact we had bought some white chocolate cupcakes in the store (see review!)

Our naughty cream tea was delicious by the way, and I definitely need to start the diet again after xmas!

I'd definitely recommend Sainsbury's cafe to anyone, the food is nice, really reasonably priced and it's clean and nicely decorated. The coffee is also made from freshly ground coffee beans, and they had shots you could add into them for an extra charge.

        Give it a go

I find supermarket cafes curious places indeed and am perversely fascinated watching people there. It is an often ugly and sterile place but yet always crowded. I too go there myself and can't quite fathom why.

The pricing in the Sainsbury's cafe is good but I can't imagine it is much cheaper than you're bog standard greasy spoon or kebab house and the quality of the food is certainly no better. The menu ranges from an assortment of stuff... and chips. Jamie Oliver has certainly not been anywhere near one of these places. My personal favourite is the cardiac on a plate - the mega all day brunch. This I think is the reason I go as it's the perfect hangover cure. It's your GP's dream on a plate: Bacon, fried eggs, sausage, chips, fried mushrooms and the token tomato to make the meal watery and give it a sense of healthy vitality.

Service here is always entertaining. I think they specialise in putting their most mono-syllabic staff members here. Never have they uttered (sorry, that should read muttered) more than two words to me and even then it's inaudible. Service with a smile is as rare as a salad.

The food itself always comes out the same. I think maybe they have a machine back there producing it. At least you get consistency.

And there there's the clientele. Always diverse and a great watch for a Sunday morning. It draws the elderly and the infants in equal measure. If you don't get an unruly brat circling you like a vulture of irritation, you've not experienced the cafe. If (s)he doesn't knock you're table and spill your coffee you haven't experienced the fun of it.

Yet, all this said, I still go. I have other options, other choices, many of which are superior but I am drawn here inexplicably. I go even when I'm not shopping just for some good grease and people watching. Give it a go - it's eye opening.

the service depends on which sainsburys you go to

I have to say that I have only had 2 experiences with Sainsburys cafe. One was very good and one was very bad. On the first occasion my husband and I decided that we would have lasgne and chips after a busy day of shopping.

We had to wait around for a long time and on top of that the queues were very confused. When the lasagne finally did come it was completely burnt on the top aside from a few bits which were just fine.

I complained of course and asked for another one to which they replied that there were not any more so they only thing that they could suggest is that I peel of the top.I left it and just ate the chips, but I was very annoyed.

On the other occasion, I had a pannini in a different sainsburys. It was bacon, chicken and cheese and it was fantastic. So i have mixed opinions.

Decent Coffee and Better Value than Costa Starbucks Pret etc.

In order to accumulate more nectar points I have started shopping at Sainsburys more often, where last weekend I discovered the Sainsburys cafe. Not being sure how long my free 1 hr parking had until expiry and not wanting want to carry shopping to the nearby Costa, I decided to get a latte there.

The latte was comparabe to the main players and a large latte or cappucino cost £1.85 and this was the same size as a medium from Costa and thus represents a 50p saving. Furthermore they give you every 6th coffee free. That means every 5 coffees and the 6th one free would represent a saving of £4.85 compared to 6 medium sized costa lattes or cappucinos.

The cafe itself was nice and clean and had a selection of sandwiches and cakes like other cafes and presumably slightly better priced than the big high street brands, though I did not look too closely at these as I simply wanted my coffee fix.

Ther service was friendly and you can collect nectar points there. A big plus is that they tend to be open later during the week and on weekends than other high street cafes (in my case until 20:00 Mon-Fri). The only downside is they do seem to take a bit longer to make your coffee, at least this has been my experience on the few occasions I have been.

If like me you spend too much on high street coffee and are looking for a way to cut back then this is a great alternative and combined with later opening hours this outlet has a lot going for it. Sadly there isnt one of these anywhere near where I work.

A Nice Meal In Sainsburys That's Good If Your DOn't Expect Gourmet Food

I go into Sainsburys cafe quite a bit because we do most of our shopping there and even though its not the best quality food most of it's tasty and filling.

I don't think it's that expensive to eat in there and they quite often have special offers on that gives you 2 meals for a set amount or coupons from the till when you pay for your shopping that you can give in at the cafe for a discount.

My fave meal is the lasage because you get loads for your money and the chips are wicked dipped in the sauce. They do breakfasts until about 11am and they're quite good but a bit greasy for in the morning. The big breakfast is good when you've got a hangover though because it's got a bit of all the stuff that will make you feel better like bacon, sausage, egg, toast and beans!

There are special kids meals as well but I don't know much about them because my sister doesn't like the food from here so we don't get her anything except for a yogurt and some fruit.

I'm not mad on the hot drinks because they always taste stewed to me and when the hot chocolate comes out of the machine it's not hot enough and goes cold dead quick.

I like the soup they sell especially the spring vegetable and tomato and basil ones and I think they are homemade because they don't taste like it's just a load of tins tipped together into the soup urn.

The cakes are ok for after you've eaten your dinner but they're not as good as the ones in Morrisons because in Sainsburys they always taste like they've been in the fridge for too long and are proper stodgy and a bit hard because they are so cold.

The Sainsburys I go in is always clean and there's a space to leave your trolley after you've done the shopping but I reckon they should put some trolley sheds up like in Tesco because I always worry that someone is going to walk off with my trolley when I'm not looking because there are some proper scabby druggies who come into this Sainsburys who would think they were the business if they got hold of £100 worth of someone elses shopping.

If you go into Sainsburys around Xmas it's worth you getting yourself one of their Xmas dinners because they are brill for a supermarket cafe and only cost about £5.00. I had one last year that was better than one I'd paid nearly £15.00 for in the pub down the road and the turkey was cooked wicked and it had all the trimmings on it.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

It is funny how certain issues can put you off.

We often have a wander to our local Sainsbury's store and today we decided to live life on the edge and enjoy a bite to eat after we did our shopping.
Sainsbury's cafe always looks inviting, it is tucked away in a corner of the store and considering it must trade fairly well it looks clean and it is well furnished. The tables and chairs are fashionable and the chairs are upholstered in `Sainsbury's orange`.

The cafe staff are a credit to Sainsbury's, they are helpful, pleasant and they greet you with a smile, which in my book goes a long way.
The cafe is self service and you take a tray on your way in, the pile of grey plastic trays were well stacked and most importantly clean.

There is a chiller cabinet that is filled with sandwiches, cakes, scones and sanwiches that you can have toasted, I chose a ham and salad sandwich that had been reduced in price. The reduction was quite significant (£1 off ) so I was quite happy to eat my bargain lunch.
The Other Half wanted something more substantial and he chose an `All day brunch` which cost £4.59.
I noticed that fish and chips were on a special offer at £3.99 and it seemed that there was something on the menu that would suit everyone, from Vegetarian lasagne to ham, egg and chips. There was also a very good offer on for a cream tea, it worked out at little over £2.

You help yourself to hot and cold drinks and the selection is good.
There is only the one till which does hold the queue up but luckily none of us were in a hurry. The brunch, sandwich and two cups of hot frothy Latte cost £8.98 and I thought that that was reasonable, plus you can hand over your Nectar card and earn points on your purchase too.
Obviously the `Brunch` had to be cooked, so the cashier then gives you a tall stand that has a number at the top, you place that stand on your chosen table and when the waitress comes out of the kitchen with your meal she can see your number straight away.

So, all was going very well. We found a table without any bother but although the cafe was fairly quiet the empty tables were all filled up with dirty crocks. We got a few paper napkins and cleared a table ( by moving the crocks onto another table that was already full) and then we wiped the surface of the table with the napkins, so maybe this was not the best of starts.
The Other Half collected the cutlery and he decided that the cutlery looked decidedly jaded, the stainless steel was covered in watermarks and I have to admit that it was lacking.
Anyway off he went and got another couple of napkins to shine the cutlery up.

The coffee was nothing short of wonderful and we both felt that it was well worth the money.
The `Brunch` arrived and it looked really hearty, two thick rashers of bacon, two sausages, two fried eggs, baked beans, mushrooms and chips ! A mammoth feast in anyone's eyes.
I ate my sandwich, the ham was excellent and the salad was crispy even though it was a reduced priced item.
The Brunch met with full approval , the portion was generous and it was well cooked. I heard a murmur about a slice of bread and butter but I ignored that comment thinking that there was plenty enough food on that plate as it was !

We had enjoyed our lunchtime snack and customers were still trickling in and each and every customer was confronted with the same problem as we had had, dirty crock filled tables.
I realise that some are going to read this review and say `Well why didn't you ask someone to clean the table?` but staff were a bit thin on the ground to say the least.

On reflection maybe the cafe was having a staffing crisis, or maybe the staffing budget did not allow for any more staff . Whichever one it was it was a shame, the whole experience was a positive one that was only slightly spoiled by the cluttered tables.
Maybe it would pay Sainsbury's to take an in depth look at the problem and see if they can improve on those couple of points.
Marks for the staff - 10 out of 10
Marks for the food - 10 out of 10.
But from then on the marks decline rapidly.

Will I visit the Cafe again ?
Yes, but by then I am hoping that they are running on full power.
