Whilst in Camden town shopping recently we were looking for somewhere to eat. There are lots of food stall in the actual markets but that didn't appeal to my chap so we went for a sit down meal option. We spotted Rossopomodoro up a side street, Jamestown Road to be exact and realised it was an Italian pizza/pasta restaurant which appealed to us both. From the outside it looked clean and fresh with tables both inside and out and glass fronted so you could see everything that is going on. There was a menu to the side of the door which we quickly glanced at and went in. OUR RECEPTION First class. A young lady greeted us politely and offered us the choice of a table inside or out, we chose in, and then perhaps a table by the window? suited us greatly. I then realised we were the only ones there to begin with but a few more came in after. This is obviously a new restaurant that has just been opened and some minor decorations were still being attended to - but nothing that affected its customers. A waitress immediately presented us with our menus to look over and offered us a few suggestions and specials, alongside drinks available. Starters, antipasti and nibbles ere offered to us like olives but we declined as these do not really appeal to us. Being a vegetarian I usually end up with standard magarhetta or something similar and was pleasantly surprised when there was a few pizza options for me. The pasta and salad sections looked lovely also but not what I was after today. My choice was the verace; a tomato sauce and buffalo mozzarella pizza with olive oil and basil. My pizza was very nice although a little lacking in flavour for me but they do have pepper, salt, olive oil by your table, I still felt it just lacked that extra spark. My chap had slightly more difficulty in choosing - he does not like pasta and there was a very small choice of meat selections, he choose the porticeses; which we thought had chicken on but as it turned out this was chicken sausage, along with mozzarella, tomatoes and fennel. The pizza was satisfactory in his words but nothing fantastic and we felt there could be a larger selection of meat pizzas available to choose from. Dessert we thought we would give a try. I chose the caffettuccio - a delicious chocolate/coffee pannacotta dessert which is warm and served in a glass pot with coffee beans, sambuca cream and icing sugar to decorate. It looked divine and tasted it too! Very strong in coffee taste and the texture was smooth and creamy on the top with a slightly more liquid chocolate base which went together perfectly. My other half chose the torts caprese, a chocolate and almond cake with ice cream. Again this was lovely my other half was very happy with this. In fact we were spoilt for choice when it came to the desserts and found it difficult to choose! ABOUT THE RESTAURANT The restaurant website is www.rossopomodoro.co.uk and you can see there menus and prices plus book a table here. I didn't realise that this was a chain of restaurants until looking at the website and the come under a group called Sebeto of which the Rossopomodoro branch was first opened in 1998 according to the website. So what else to say............. I liked the way the restaurant was set out and designed in the Camden branch with exposed brick work in places, wooden tables and chairs and nice touches like a book shelf divider with products from Italy on the shelfs. The kitchen is a version so you can see where and how your pizza etc is cooked - I love this idea, it gives a greater ambiance I feel when dining out. Toilets were impeccably clean all dark grey and white, only two but that seemed enough, the only problem is they are upstairs which is fine for me but may be an issue if you can not manage the stairs. I did not see a lift although to be fair I did not ask if there was one either. Our bill for two pizzas, two desserts and two drinks was around £45 so satisfactory in my opinion, what does grate on me slightly thigh is that this includes a 12.5% service charge. I realise that many places do this now, but call me old fashioned I like to tip if I feel the service is good not because everyone else feels I should! This is an optional charge but this means you have to request it to be taken off your bill. OVERALL A nice restaurant with lovely staff and a pleasant decorative area, but a bit more selection of meat pizza and spice would be nice. Review maybe written on dooyoo and ciao under the same username.
