No.60 - reputed to be one of the best restaurants in Liverpool. So when my parents recently came to visit me, I booked us a table. There are two levels to this restaurant, physically and financially. Unstairs is a full waiter service restaurant, and the more pricey option, and downstairs has a slighty more casual air, and more affordably priced. On my first visit we dined upstairs. The table was ready when we arrived, and the waiters were friendly and attentive. The dress was pretty casual, and the noise level was high. Not somewhere for a romantic night out. Our order was taken promptly, and rolls were proffered, with a second helping once we had eaten the first. The menu itself was good and quite varied. However, it is worthy of note that there was NOT a vegetarian option. A rare omitance on a menu. I am not vegetarian, so I don't know if they would have made you up something had you asked. The food was excellent in taste and presentation. Although there was a delay on the vegetables, and we had to ask to remind them. I had salmon fish cake for starter and a white fish for the main meal. However, the portions were also quite large so I sadly could not find room for their famous deep fried jam sandwich...although I did manage to squeeze in quite a few of the chocolate coffee beans that came with the bill. Starters seem to range from 5-7 pounds, main 15-18 pounds. All in all a satisfying meal, definatley somewhere to take the parents. As for the bar downstairs, this is a more reasonably priced dining experience. As with the restaurant, the food was very good, including things like fish and chips with mushy peas, grilled chicken kebabs, steak sandwich and caramilized onion frittata. Mains are around 5-7 pounds, and the serving size is fairly substantial. Dessert is also good, and priced at 3.50, there are several options including chocolate brownie with ice cream and marshmallow chees e cake. However, the bar also has the slow and a little inefficient service, but the staff were very friendly. For both pre-booking is essential. In the bar you can sit and wait for a table, but it may take forever - even if there seem to be alot of spare tables.
